MDC Spring 2012 :)

Hi guys!

I was hoping to get to know some of the people that will be applying to the Spring 12 nursing program.

I've been following the MDC Fall 2011 =) thread and I'm super excited for them, but now I'm even more excited since this time it's finally me who is applying to the nursing program.

So...who else is applying???? :redbeathe

mjpdc,

About the books, I think that is a question for someone who has already gone through the course. I am sure there are some we may barely use, but since I am not sure I bought all of them. I did most of the shopping online which comes out a bit cheaper than buying at the mdc bookstore, but it is still pretty costly especially when you add uniform and other accessories.

yisy4u,

Thanks for the uniform info. I was confused about that too. The handbook makes it seem like you have to wear the uniform at all times, except in labs where you can wear business attire with the lab coat.

Hello,

Can someone/anyone tell me the pre-req courses that is required to apply for admission to the program? They have the General Education and Natural Science Courses listed; and I just need to know which one they requiring.

Thanks.

You have to finish all the pre-requisites (general & science) in order to apply to the program. They will only take into consideration the science gpa plus the Teas V exam results.

Hope it helps

Okay, thanks for the clarity.

heyyy i just created my account after encountering this blog! I am VERY new lol, I just got of the service and starting at MDC this spring term! ahhh lol, I was wondering if the courses are really challenging??..How are the professors?..I am going to the north campus, anyone attend there?

I'd say the courses are fairly challenging; you'll need to put time and effort into not only getting an A, but making sure you internalize the knowledge, because some of it will pop up later in your nursing education and career.

I took a few classes at north campus and I have only good things to say about the experiences I had there.

Thanks for your service, and I wish you success!

Hi guys,

I have been reading that a few of you already purchased and are starting to read the textbooks. I am actually starting to order my books now so if anyone has any info as to where I can buy at a better rate please let me know.

Meanwhile I just ordered the Fundamentals of Nursing 7th ed (used) for $29.43 at TextbooksRus (at MDC it's $110.00).

Hello, I am a little confused about the A.S (MDC) versus a BSN(other schools).

Can anyone please tell me what is the difference between the two? Thanx!!

ADN is the Associate Degree in Nursing, a 2 year degree; BSN is the Bachelor of Science in Nursing, a 4 year degree.

Sitting for the NCLEX, the exam that certifies you as an RN, only requires you to have an ADN. Many nurses pursue this degree (because it's quicker and cheaper), become an RN, and then start working and possibly return to school later to complete the Bachelor's Degree.

Getting a BSN also qualifies you to sit for the NCLEX and become an RN, since it's a higher level degree. Many hospitals are moving towards "Magnet" status, and one of the ways to achieve that status is to have a certain percentage or all nurses in the facility that have the BSN, or are "BSN prepared" as it is often written.

ADN seems to focus more on core clinical skills, and the BSN goes beyond that, deeper into theory of nursing and preparation for management positions and Master's degrees.

Just a few tidbits based on my research, I'm just about to start my ADN at this point, so I haven't experienced any of this yet, and I'm sure someone who did the ADN to BSN could share more. Hope this helps!

Specializes in None as of yet..

Hey Guys,

For those in the Baptist program check your MDC schedules. They have been changed to the courses we will be taking with Baptist. The schedule is very nice!

For those waiting to get a better schedules with the courses offered in sequence 1, my courses were dropped. Check it out, if you were planning on changing your schedules.

Good Luck everyone, and Happy Holidays. ^_^

Jael11,

Do you know if our classes at baptist are going to be at the same hospital where we were interviewed

because at the top of the schedule it says Campus/location: 520 homestead outreach??
