MDC Spring 2012 :)

Published

Hi guys!

I was hoping to get to know some of the people that will be applying to the Spring 12 nursing program.

I've been following the MDC Fall 2011 =) thread and I'm super excited for them, but now I'm even more excited since this time it's finally me who is applying to the nursing program.

So...who else is applying???? :redbeathe

:nurse:

Hello all, needless to say I am anticipating our orientation at the end of the month. Anyone who is waiting with me, just wanted to let you know I tried to register for classes but it wouldnt let me. I guess we are just too far out from our orientation day! Oh well- cant wait to meet you all! By any chance does anyone who has attended the orientation have an updated book list? I have been going off the one from last semester and just want to make sure nothing has changed!

madarmes

Try again a few days before orientation.

As for the books..well they are a lot...

For NUR1025 & NUR1025L: Nurse's pocket guide: Diagnoses, prioritized interventions, and rationales. 12th edition & Application of the nursing process and nursing diagnosis: An interactive text for diagnostic reasoning. 5th edition.

Also, Potter, P.A., Perry, A. G. (2009) Fundamental of nursing 7th edition.

Brunner and Suddarth's textbook of medical surgical nursing 12th edition

Tabers cyclopedic medical dictionary 21st edition. And last, but not least David's comprehensive handbook of laboratory diagnostic tests with nursing implications 4th edition. And the curriculum, but that one is a waste of money, so don't buy it.

For NUR1060 Physical examination and health assessment 6th edition

For NUR1025C Nursing interventions and clinical skills 5th edition.

For NUR1142 Drug guide for nurses 12th edition and Medical Dosage calculations 10th edition.

That's all....wow...I'm tired of so much writing...lol

Wow, thank you sooo much for giving me the entire list! you are too awesome! Im veryy happy to see the books I already bought are still on the list! Only about half more to buy! Just a quick question, are all these books for just the first semester? Or are these all the books for the entire length of nursing school? Because I have here 5 of the books and I think it will take me about a year to get through all of this information!! They are huge text books!?!? Anyone with the answer, I would greatly appreciate it! :yeah:

Your Welcome!!! :D

Those books are for the 1st semester. They will give you the list with the books for the other semesters as well.

And yes! they are super heavy...I didn't want it, but I had to buy a rolling backpack because I don't think I can carry those books around. :(

Yes, once the books started coming in the mail, I went ahead and ordered myself a rolling bag as well! Thanks again for the info!

I forgot to mention that for the 2nd semester we'll only need to buy 1 book, and then for the 3rd one 3 more...and semester 4 just 1..This may be different for you since your program is a semester shorter than mine.

Oh Wow! I just saw this video and I really loved it! If you have time please check it out...it was very exciting and inspiring!

Hi there Full-Timers,

What was the ATI diagnostic tests about? How are "scores" reported? Us Part-Timers don't take that test 'til the end of the month.

Thanks!

Hey Mwen,

I was in group 1, 8:30AM, on Friday for the ATI testing at Medical campus. Basically, the test is divided in two separate exams in a 4 hr span. (Most likely you will finish early). The first exam is 38-40 mins time limit (from what I remember, not sure), and it's a multiple choice based exam. It consists of all critical thinking questions with a nursing perspective to them. Exactly what the director at Orientation said it was gonna be, it's there. ha ha. Don't worry, or stress to answer them correctly because you want to see where you stand right now as a first year student nurse. In comparison at the end of your senior year at MDC. (Which by then you will need to score a high percentage). Answer them to the best of your ability.

The second portion is divided in 3-4(But I think it was 3, don't remember exactly, lol) sections set of questions that are scaled between a Strongly Agree - Strongly Disagree. This section is to test your abilities, and where are your strengths and weaknesses in the way you study and learn information. The second section is just questions about yourself, and this section is fast, requires no to little thinking on answering the questions. BUT IT'S LONG. So just be patient and enjoy the process as best you can.

Yisy4u,

Thanks for the youtube links. I watched them both, and the interview video definitely helps. Since I'm still waiting for a call back from Baptist. The second video was very inspirational. Loved it!

Jael i was in the same group as you...so bad we didn't meet at orientation or the day of the test! Btw i'm sequence 2. How about you?

I'm glad you liked the videos. I loved the last one as well. :)

I KNOW! I did get to meet Coren (Jenny) and Ana (Who I had for intro to healthcare), both were super nice and we got some classes together for sequence one. I met some other students that day too talking about the courses, professors, and the requirements that are due by Dec. 5th. I was asking around trying to find other people from allnurses.com but I got nothing. :lol2: At the end everyone was so busy trying to register. I was like this lol. I'm glad I brought my macbook to register right then and there because it got crazy at the end!

Did everyone get to meet at 8:30? I got there like at 9:05, traffic was so bad that day, coming all the way from Hialeah.

No! We didn't get to meet as planned, but I met AlexLL right after the 1st break and then I met P_Funk. We were communicating all the time through text msg though. :)

So sad we chose different sequences. I chose sequence 2 because of prof Lebon...she is one of the best prof. I have 3 classes with her! :D

BTW I live near Hialeah! and yes..traffic was kind of heavy that day! We'll gonna have to get up pretty early if we want to avoid that traffic because I don't think it's gonna get any better during school time. :(
