MDC Spring 2012 :)

Published

Hi guys!

I was hoping to get to know some of the people that will be applying to the Spring 12 nursing program.

I've been following the MDC Fall 2011 =) thread and I'm super excited for them, but now I'm even more excited since this time it's finally me who is applying to the nursing program.

So...who else is applying???? :redbeathe

Just finished the 6 hr CPR Course at Miami Dade Kendall, never thought CPR was that much of a workout. Now just 2 more things to complete. The scholarship interview with Baptist and the medical work. I think we should start posting questions that we should anticipate for the Baptist Scholar Program. I'll start off with some basic questions they might ask you.

What made you decide to become a nurse?

What has been your biggest failure?

What are your weaknesses and strengths?

What has been your best accomplishment?

My Friend did the Baptist Scholars program interview last year and said this forum helped her a lot.

It's old from the start but it's a forum that's been updated up to 2011.

Good Luck to us all. It be nice if we could all get in. :D

Alex could you update us also what to expect in the CPR course for those that are gonna take it this coming Saturday. (In Detail, if possible). lol.

Sure Jael according to our instructors we needed to bring a CPR Book to class, but only a few students did, so they went ahead and gave us printed copies of the information from the book. I would verify with your location about the textbook, since I had no clue we needed this, not sure if other instructors will give out copies, honestly we never used the book or copies. We went over the adult, child, and infant CPR videos and during each section we performed individual CPR practice techniques using the demonstration dummy's. Everyone was paired up in teams of 2. After the videos and practice techniques we went ahead and took a 25 question multiple choice test. (I WOULD RECOMMEND REVIEWING ONLINE THE CPR INFORMATION BEFORE ATTENDING THE CLASS, SO YOU HAVE AN IDEA OF WHAT TO EXPECT) After our test we were given the MDC Certificate of Completion and the Wallet Size American Heart Association CPR Certificate. Don't get freaked out about the test, it seems like the certificate of completion were already printed out for us before we even took the test. One recommendation wear comfortable attire, since you will be on your knees practicing CPR most of the time. Best of luck if anyone has any questions don't hesitate to ask. God Bless

Great, thanks for the info Alex!

I'll be preparing with my old notes and some youtube videos. I got certified years ago, so I still remember some steps, but it's very rusty. hahaha! :lol2:

Yea you will be fine...some of the questions were scenario based, like if you find a unresponsive person with no pulse and is not breathing, what should you do first? etc....

Hey,

I took the CPR class friday and it wasn't that bad. Must say that I'm glad I got it over with though... :)

P Funk where did you take it? Did they tell you anything about the CPR book?

I took the class at Medical Campus and you do not need waste your money on the book. The class is not hard at all.

Medical campus. And like dolfinz562 said, don't waste your money on the book. But thats from my knowledge of going to the medical campus. I can't tell you what to expect at kendall or north campus.... or etc.

Yea I agree no one by the book, I'm just telling you what the instructor at Kendall campus told us today. Their was like 5 people in the class with the CPR book, but no where does it say when we paid the $75 for the class that you need a book.

The south Fl workforce is for people who were unable to find a job in their field and now are ready to take the last step - retraining. You must be unemployed at the time of application. At least thats what they told us at the orientation. I really hope there is a way for you around it.

I am not working, and have been on unemployment for some time. It is indeed hard for an aerial photo geodesist to find a job nowadays. Ha ha!

By the way, got my Fundamentals book, pulled some old curricula online, and doing some reading.

Blissberry,

What was the link for the old curricula you found (if you don't mind me asking)? ...I have an older edition of the fundamentals book from when my sister when to nursing school at dade and just wanted to start reading some stuff before I actually go out and buy the updated version that would be needed for class....
