Hi guys! Who else is applying for MDC Fall 2011?
I am also applying for FIU-- I was accepted last year to MDC but for financial and personal reasons could not attend. :'( Who else will be applying to Generic FT? Please state what program you will be applying to!
I will be taking the TEAS sometime in March, in which I will also be taking the HESI A2 for FIU. So I might as well be studying for both, lol. Anybody taken the TEAS at MDC? Share your experiences here! :) I will be using a general book for nursing school entrance exams... it's by Barron... and I will be studying my math from a nursing calculation book, and my sciences from my anatomy, biology, and other notes. Is it true there is geology on the exam? How irrelevant... lol
Well good luck to us all! :heartbeat
Hi Flex,
Yep, I should have included my GPA with my TEAS score=81.
I have a Bachelor's of Arts Degree from a long time ago.
GPA from that was 3.2 (not good enough for FAU's BSN program)
I worked on my science pre-requisites since Jan 2010.
My GPA on all my science pre-requisites required by MDC is 4.0
I knew that the science GPA was 40% of how MDC determines
who they accept, so I worked VERY HARD on those science classes.
I didn't stress too bad over studying only 10 days for the TEAS
ONLY because I knew if I did poorly (which I expected) I could
take the TEAS a 2nd try and MDC would look at only the highest
score. So, I figured "no penalty" for a failed attempt at TEAS.
Helped ease my stress level in taking the TEAS.

Mariah1984:If you are willing to post amazon.com links for the books you bought,
I for one, am interested in this information.
Alternately, ISBN numbers are useful.
THANKS

Hey, everyone! Just came across this message board. What a great amount of information everyone has posted so far!
As for the books, you can check directly on the MDC Medical Campus bookstore website - www.bkstr.com Just select Florida, Miami-Dade College, and Medical Center Campus. Then click on Textbook and Course Materials, and select the nursing classes for the first semester (NUR1025, 1025C, 1025L, 1060C, 1141, 1142, 1211, 1211L, 1214C). Not all of the classes have books listed, but I copied below what I found so far (if anyone finds more, please post them). You can copy the ISBN numbers into amazon and they will all come up. Hope this helps (hope this list is current, too!)
These books are on the required list.
9780803622340 - Nurse's Pocket Guide
9780803623088 - Davis's Drug Guide for Nurses

These two are on the recommended list.
9780781772471 - Intro to Community-Based Nursing
9781582555676 - Medical-Surgical Nursing Made Incr Easy

Hello Everyone,
I am going through a dilemma here. I got accepted into Nova BSN program for fall. When I found out I got accepted, I was so excited and relived that finally I got into a program. But unfortunately, I realized I can't afford to go. I've applied to Baptist scholarship and couple of others, but who knows if I'm going to get them. Not only have that, Nova is far from where I live. I'm in the processing of buying a used car. And I might have to quit my job because I won't be able to their hours any more. Oh Lord! So, now I am waiting to see what MDC has to say. I applied last year for fall and I didn't get in. But I still reapplied for this year fall. I have a 3.38 GPA, but I have mostly A's & only 3 B's for the prerequisites. I barely passed the TEAS exam. Now, I'm really hoping to get into MDC program, I wish I worked harder to get into MDC rather than Nova. MDC would be so much more convenient.

What is your Pre-Req Gpa? Have you taken the TEAS? Are you aware they only look at Anatomy 1 & 2 with lab, chemistry with lab and Microbiology without the lab? Where do your 3 Bs fall? Just trying to get a better picture of your situation.

Congrats on getting accepted to Nova! Shamanai is right, it's ONLY your science pre-req gpa that MDC takes into consideration (40%) and your TEAS score is the other 60%. But none of us know what the TEAS cut-off score will be this semester. It's scary!
But hey, you got accepted into a program that is very competitive so your chances are probably pretty good at MDC too. Either way, you can make it work. If you don't already have a bachelor degree you should qualify for federal grants and there's always stafford loans. But hopefully we will all get into MDC together this fall and everyone will be happy!
For AP 1 + Lab I got "A's", AP 2 Lecture "B" Lab "A", Micro Lecture "B" Lab "A", Chemistry "B" Lab "A". For the Teas, just know I passed but barely.
Well your gpa for the program is at 3.4 (micro lab isn't counted in the calculation) as far as your TEAS score when you retake you get the same test, so I've been told. whatever your TEAS score is multiply it by .6 and add it to 34(your 40% portion for the GPA) and you'll end up with a competitive score. At least this way you can see how you fare with the students that are on the boards here. Like the late Aaliyah said, "If at first you don't succeed... dust yourself off and try again you can dust it off and try again try again!!!" Best of luck!!!!
