MDC Fall 2011 =)
Yes, $5200 tuition for the whole program. I am estimating the tuition costs based on approx. $124/credit hour. The accelerated programs tuition for the first semester is $2586 for 21 credits.

MDC Fall 2011 =)
Yes, making sure you have everything done needs lots of organization! I copied this from excel (which didn't copy so well, but the data is there) Here are all the "pre-classes" costs for just about everything except tuition. Note that your costs will vary significantly for the titers and vaccines depending of what insurance benefits you have. I listed all the best retail prices that I found (mostly from this board). I think you can also get free or discounted vaccines from a public health clinic, but I haven't verified that. The books for the remaining semesters are much less (around 280-300, total). And also budget for some extra study guides, office supplies, etc (which I estimate to be another 300-400). Oh, and the book prices are for new books mostly from amazon or ebay, so if you look harder, you can probably save more by buying used. If someone notices anything missing, please add! Supplies Lab coat (only at bookstore) 42 Uniform top (only at bookstore) 53 Pants (prob. best deal at bookstore) 18 Shoes (all white only) 40-60 Nursing Kit (only at bookstore) 105 Stethoscope (3M Littmann Classic II S.E., non-black) 75-95 Nametag (only at bookstore) 8 subtotal 340-380 Books (first semester) Nurse's Pocket Guide: Diagnoses, Prioritized Interventions and Rationales, Doenges, et al 27 Taber's Cyclopedic Medical Dictionary, 21st Edition (Thumb Index Version), Donald Venes 31 A.S. Nursing curriculum (only published by MDC) 75 Physical Examination and Health Assessment 78 Brunner and Suddarth's Medical-Surgical Nursing Twelfth Edition 114 Davis's Comprehensive Handbook of Laboratory and Diagnostic Tests With Nursing Implications 37 Application of Nursing Process and Nursing Diagnosis: 5th Edition 26 Davis's Drug Guide for Nurses with CD 39 Medical Dosage Calculations: A Dimensional Analysis Approach (10th Edition) 52 Nursing Interventions & Clinical Skills (Elkin, Nursing Interventions and Clinical Skills) 65 Fundamentals of Nursing (Potter & Perry)) 106 ( these above two are available with extra DVD's in bookstore as combo for 212) subtotal 650-700 Pre-orientation (definitely out of pocket cost) Background check 58 CPR course (at MDC, could be lower elsewhere) 69 Basic Life Support (CPR book) 18 subtotal 145 Pre-orientation (some or all may be covered by your policy) Drug test 35 MMR/varicella boosters 100-130 TB tests 50 Physical 45 MMR, Varicella titers 130

MDC Fall 2011 =)
Hello, everyone! What a crazy few days with orientation (accelerated) and trying to get various things resolved... But now to something that is probably on everyone's mind: costs. After getting the list of required textbooks and supplies, costs are rising rapidly! I put together a list of all costs from start to finish (this is a first draft, so, people, please add if I forgot something ) Tuition (the biggest) - $5200 Books and office supplies - $1000 (this one can vary, depending on how many used books you can find, but I pretty much just plugged in new book prices from various online sources like ebay and amazon) Nursing supplies - $350 (includes full uniform-120, shoes-50, nursing kit-100, stethoscope-80) Pre-admission costs - $300 (things like CPR class, blood tests, vaccines, background check; this may be much higher if you need more vaccines) NCLEX registration - $200 NCLEX review books - $200 Total - $7250 (+/- a few hundred, depending on many of the factors listed above) Also, for books, there are a ton of extra study guides (both for classes and NCLEX) that may help, so budget another $200 if you think you will be getting a few of those. I know finances are a pain to worry about, but I hope this helps some people in budgeting

Baptist Hospital Scholars Program - Miami
Hi, everyone! I just got accepted to the accelerated program at MDC (starting Aug 2011) so sorry if I'm a bit of noob Did you all apply before you started the program or after you started? I recently spoke with an advisor and he told me that the only one available for Fall 2011 entrants is the HSC program (they pay like 4000 of tuition and in return you work there for 18 months after graduation and certification). However, with the amount of conflicting information circulating on some of these threads, I thought it might be a good idea to check with others on this thread :) Good luck to everyone that's already in the process!!!!

MDC Fall 2011 =)
Hi, everyone! Has anyone applied or have any information on any scholars programs that MDC is affiliated with? An advisor told me that the only one available for Fall 2011 entrants is the HSC program (they pay like 4000 of tuition and in return you work there for 18 months after graduation and certification). However, with the amount of conflicting information, I thought it might be a good idea to check with others on this thread :)

MDC Fall 2011 =)
That's what everyone wants to know, but nobody in the admissions/advising department will say very much. Back in July 2010, I asked what the average and median TEAS and GPAs were for the latest class. I was told to ask again later in the year. I asked in April of this year and I got an evasive reply: score as high as you can because it is competitive. Huh?? Anyway, I guess they just don't want to release that info for whatever reason. Maybe they don't want to discourage people from applying...who knows? Anectodotally (from the same adviser), she told me that in the first semester of the new entrance system using only GPA and TEAS scores, scores were all over the place. People with high TEAS and low GPAs got in and vice versa. I suppose if everyone that gets accepted would posts their stats, that would at least give future applicants some idea of what to expect...

MDC Fall 2011 =)
Hey, everyone! Just came across this message board. What a great amount of information everyone has posted so far! As for the books, you can check directly on the MDC Medical Campus bookstore website - www.bkstr.com Just select Florida, Miami-Dade College, and Medical Center Campus. Then click on Textbook and Course Materials, and select the nursing classes for the first semester (NUR1025, 1025C, 1025L, 1060C, 1141, 1142, 1211, 1211L, 1214C). Not all of the classes have books listed, but I copied below what I found so far (if anyone finds more, please post them). You can copy the ISBN numbers into amazon and they will all come up. Hope this helps (hope this list is current, too!) These books are on the required list. 9780803622340 - Nurse's Pocket Guide 9780803623088 - Davis's Drug Guide for Nurses 9780803615595 - Cyclopedic Medical Dictionary (Indexed)(w/DVD) 9780781785907 - Brunner...Txtbk Med-Surg Nurs 9780781785921 - Handbook for Brunner Txtbk of Med-Surg Nursing 9780803618268 - Med-Surg Success (w/CD) 9780803625044 - Davis's Comprehensive Hdbk of Lab & Diag Tests 9780132156615 - Medical Dosage Calculations (there's also a book with no ISBN called NURSING CURRICULUM LEVEL 1 AND 2. I'm guessing this is something that the school publishes, but I suppose we'll find out later) These two are on the recommended list. 9780781772471 - Intro to Community-Based Nursing 9781582555676 - Medical-Surgical Nursing Made Incr Easy
