I am also applying for FIU-- I was accepted last year to MDC but for financial and personal reasons could not attend. :'( Who else will be applying to Generic FT? Please state what program you will be applying to!
I will be taking the TEAS sometime in March, in which I will also be taking the HESI A2 for FIU. So I might as well be studying for both, lol. Anybody taken the TEAS at MDC? Share your experiences here! :) I will be using a general book for nursing school entrance exams... it's by Barron... and I will be studying my math from a nursing calculation book, and my sciences from my anatomy, biology, and other notes. Is it true there is geology on the exam? How irrelevant... lol

How hard is it really to get into the MDC nursing program? I'm still doing my pre-requisites and I am dreading CHM. I was taking it last semester but dropped it because I had my baby. I found it really tough the couple of weeks that I did take it. Has anyone ever gotten into the program with a B or C in any of the science courses?
I'm planning on applying sometime next term but I'm extremely nervous!! :uhoh21:
Completely off topic, but I just recalculated the program cost and realize that the actual nursing program from the point after the application process is 42 credits (NOT the 72 as outlined in the total cost of program). Does anyone know if this affects the cost of books and materials?
PS, It's nearly June!! I want to know one way or the other
I think the price on the webpage is about accurate...it says we should estimate besides the cost of the credit courses, which is your right 42 credits...about $2200 for uniforms...equipment we need...NCLEX fees and everything...so that really isn't bad at all. This is a really affordable program it seems especially if you get the pell grant. I do not know if a pell grant will cover the cost of classes and all books I am trying to figure that out...I think it probably won't cover all the books we need but most of them.
I know, I really just want to know already one way or another so I can start planning the next year of my life! If I don't get in I need to start looking for a CNA job while I finish up my AA...if I do get in I need to start doing some major reading haha!
Also goldonhorn I think the classes start on August 22 but I am not sure...I don't know when orientation would be sorry...

That's what everyone wants to know, but nobody in the admissions/advising department will say very much. Back in July 2010, I asked what the average and median TEAS and GPAs were for the latest class. I was told to ask again later in the year. I asked in April of this year and I got an evasive reply: score as high as you can because it is competitive. Huh??
Anyway, I guess they just don't want to release that info for whatever reason. Maybe they don't want to discourage people from applying...who knows?
Anectodotally (from the same adviser), she told me that in the first semester of the new entrance system using only GPA and TEAS scores, scores were all over the place. People with high TEAS and low GPAs got in and vice versa. I suppose if everyone that gets accepted would posts their stats, that would at least give future applicants some idea of what to expect...
Of those of you who know someone who has gone through the MDC nursing program, is it extremely demanding? Do a significant percentage of people flunk out in the first semester or what? Does it get harder and harder or easier and easier? I am just trying to get an idea of how traumatizing it might be or dealing with sleep deprivation, etc. Thanks for any inside information.

That is so amazing. That is why I had to leave Keiser because I was paying about $1500 per month!
Well, according to a girlfriend of mine who is in the program, she says that it gets easier as the semesters pass. She said that the hardest semester was med-surg and that was about 8 months. I think that she said she started the program with about 40-50 people and now there are only about 25 left. Most of the students fell behind during that med-surg class.

I had the BEST professor for chem. I don't think they let us post prof names on here but if you still need to take that class let me know and I can pm his info to you. He's at the interamerican campus. I knew nothing about chem before I took it but he explains everything in detail. You do have to study a lot but if you do that you'll be fine. I studied an average of 2 hrs a day for that class and ended up with an overall grade of 98%. He is by far the best professor I've ever had! (and I have a bachelor degree so I've taken tons of classes :))

That seems a little unfair that they wouldn't tell us! Maybe they just want everyone to apply anyways. I think once our fellow peers start getting their acceptance letters they should give us their facts! LOL. That way the rest of us who haven't applied yet have somewhat of an idea of how tough it is or how easy it is. I've heard a rumor that if you have a license in something in med for ex. CNA then your application goes to the front of the list. I'm not sure if that is true.Does anyone know if it is?
