MCC Fall 2009 applicants, post your HESI class average.

Published

Okay it is a long time until the letters go out and we are all wondering if our HESI score was good enough. So let's be silly and play detectives and see if we can get an idea of where we stand.

For 1000 students with around 30 seats per room, there was around 34 classes.

1. Greent52389- 1/7/09, Rm 130, 81.73 average

2. Shannonmarie7- 1/7/09, Rm 115, 81.75 average

Repy with your test date, number of the room you were in, and the average score from your class and I will update this page to see what some of the overall class averages are.:smokin:

Yes, please let us know. I *think* I will be OK even if they go back further, but I have a B in a class March 2007. You have to figure that even if the grades don't transfer, they take even the last 12 credits at MCC. They don't even have to be part of our program. They don't care what you took, just the GPA of the last 12. So I would think it would work equally for Baker. It doesn't matter what you took, just the last 18 credits (or semesters that add up to at least 18--whatever). I think the mixed ones would be the hardest to figure out. But it would seem like if you had some at MCC and some at Baker, then the total would add up to a different amount. Certainly, some other people have had that happen. I really hate how you can talk to different counselors and get different information. It really makes me unsure when I am making choices. It's like trying to get help when you are low income or have a disabled child. It is so hard to get the maximum benefit you can get to help your family, because half the people give wrong information, and the other half, just don't know, but don't tell you that. Then there are the people, who are jaded and don't want to help, despite the fact that THEY CHOSE a career in social work. :sigh: If I ever give wrong information, I hope that I am corrected, so I can help properly in the future.

Anyway...

I also heard from the Baker instructors say that A&P at MCC is difficult.

Regardless, April just seems like a long way off.

Hi Ladies,

When I went in and talked with the advisor at MCC, she figured out my gpa right away...I just did this last week before I applied for the selecitive addmissions. I don't think my gpa is good enough for the nursing, but it is good enough for resp ther. and surg tech. But I have to try to get into the surg tech classes sometime this week.

I love the saying about the albatross..So true...LOL

All I feel is that I have running and running and getting nowhere!!!

Ask the advisor that you see if they can figure out your gpa for all the selective addmissions, be sneaky I guess to see where you stand. Say you want to see if your gpa is good enough for surg tech or resp ther and have them figure it out.

Laura,

What do mean about getting into surg tech classes. Don't you have to be in the program first? Are there classes you can take before acceptance/denial?

I plan on seeing an academic advisor this Monday and if I don't get the questions I want answered, I will go over to the nursing department and ask them. If anyone knows, it should be THEM.

I will keep you guys posted :) I'm going to write down your questions and ask those at my meeting in addition to the questions of my own.

I await your post from that. I think sometime next week I may go back and see if I can force them to give me the actual GPA they are using, not just the last 18 credits talk. I don't understand why they are so hesitant, it must say somewhere in our files.

Yes there is...Med term. Health 2070 and surg 1050, surg 1060 and surg 1070....These are the pre=reqs for the surg tech degree. I didn't know about this until last week and now I am scrambling trying to get accepted into the last 3 classes for this winter, because you can only take the classes during the fall and winter semester.

Thank you so much Laura for the info, you are always so helpful!

Gemberly if you don't mind, what is your secret to scoring a 100% in the reading comprehension?

I've tried to explain to other people, but it isn't something that I can really explain or that was helpful to them. I just read the passages until I knew the answer. I went with my gut. Usually with those tests, you can find two answers that you KNOW aren't right. If you are unsure of which answer is the right one, try instead to identify which ones aren't correct.

I'm sorry, if it isn't much help.

What perplexes me most is why aren't they being forthcoming with the grades? What are they trying to hide? Don't we, as students, have a right to know what our GPA/grades are? It all seems just... really weird.:smackingf

The only thing I can think of is that some of the counselors do not want the responsibility of telling us what is in the computer, and it is not the right one, and the nursing department uses a different one and the student complains.

Hi guys,

I don't know if this helps, but sometime in February/March MCC sends out a letter confirming your application along with requests for any information that's missing. In this letter they will also state your HESI score and the GPA that you will be ranked on.

:twocents:

Good luck!
