MCC Fall 2009 applicants, post your HESI class average.

Published

Okay it is a long time until the letters go out and we are all wondering if our HESI score was good enough. So let's be silly and play detectives and see if we can get an idea of where we stand.

For 1000 students with around 30 seats per room, there was around 34 classes.

1. Greent52389- 1/7/09, Rm 130, 81.73 average

2. Shannonmarie7- 1/7/09, Rm 115, 81.75 average

Repy with your test date, number of the room you were in, and the average score from your class and I will update this page to see what some of the overall class averages are.:smokin:

No, I will have 13 between the two schools, and if I bring in my English class from OCC that I took that over 5 years ago, I will have 17.

Why is it 18-20 from other schools and 12 from MCC? I had an advisor tell me it was the same for me since my credits are from WSU, unless for instance you took 4 credits one semester and 7 credits the one before, which is only 11, so they would use the next semester before that too (all credits from that semester not just enough to make 12).

Because the terms at Baker are only 10 weeks long and not 16. So they aren't weighted the same.

Oh by other schools I didnt know you only meant Baker! Sorry!

Yes, just Baker, or any school that uses quarters instead of semesters. :)

I can't edit my post so I'll do it this way :)

With the 9 from Baker, plus 4 from MCC and 4 from OCC I'll have 17. Why would MCC say they look at the most recent 12 credits, and then tell you that they look at the last 18? Where are they getting this 18 from anyway? I think I'm gonna meet with an academic advisor of my own and figure this out. Not that I don't trust or believe the information here, I'm just really confused :(

I don't know how they would work it with some of your credits being from another community college that uses their same type of system and from Baker that doesn't.

When you transfer classes to MCC from Baker, you will notice that you don't get full credit for the classes. For instance our A&P classes are each 5 credits, but upon transferring to MCC we only get 6 credits total for both. But A&P from OCC would transfer as the the same amount of credits.

That is the reason they take the last 18 of the Baker credits and 12 from other schools with a traditional system.

Will taking the last 18 vs. the last 12 change your GPA much?

The ones from Baker are an A- and A; the OCC class is an A-; and the MCC class is an A. That's all I've got to my name, with some WP classes from OCC from 6 years ago that didn't even transfer to MCC to begin with.

When I looked at my transcript for MCC, my OCC grade wasn't even present; it just showed that I had earned the credits. Is my grade secretly hiding in there for only the school to see or something?

Yes, I think that is a good way to put it. Secretly hiding. LOL None of my Baker credit show up with a grade either. And the ones they don't take, they still will look at the GPA that I actually earned to figure my last 18 credits.

Toxicshock, let us know what they say, when I went to see an advisor on Jan 7th I tried to trick her and ask what GPA they were going to use. I worded it so I did not say 12 or 18 just asked what my GPA was going to be and she said the last 18 credit hours from Baker, but would not give me the actual grade. This is the 2nd time I asked and was told this at both campuses. Now, when I went to talk to an advisor before I actual enrolled as a student there they told me 12, which is why I am upset because my 12 credit is a lot higher than my 18 credit.

I really hope that the 12 hour is what they use.:crying2: I just can not figure out how it is any different semester v.s. quarters because Baker may be less time but they really jam a lot into those 10 weeks.

I'm sure you will be okay either way, plus I think it says somewhere online that if you do not have the "12" hours they can also consider your high school transcript.

Shoot, I just went and figured out how much my last "18" credits at Baker transfer to at MCC.

Intro Alg 2.68

Anatomy II 2.68

Micro 3.35

Oral Communication 2.68

Total- 11.39 transfer.

That isn't even 12 credits according to Macomb. If they add the semester before that into the mix to get it over 12 credits I am really screwed. Oh well, maybe next year.

What I just don't get is that if we get into the program they are willing to take Bakers "lesser" credits for us to come there and will give us an associates degree in the end, but the classes are not good enough to count as 12 credits? Our anatomy classes put together are longer than theirs.

You made a lot of really good points, Shannon, and I will definitely find out as much information as I possibly can when I am there. Hell, I'll even bring a tape recorder with me so I can be sure to type out to you guys everything verbatim! lol

Their Nursing packet says "only the most recent twelve semester credits of MCC courses and/or transfer courses will be used. If more than twelve credits were attempted in the most recent semester, the total semester's GPA will be used. If more than one term is required to meet the minimum twelve credits, the combined semester's GPAs will be used even if the total exceeds twelve credits."

What about classes that don't equally transfer? The packet also says that "only courses equal to MCC courses numbered 1000 or higher will be used." Ok, you don't have 12 credits earned at MCC, so they look at your other Baker's (for example) earned credits. But some of those credits aren't numbered 1000 or higher, so they won't be looked at, right? But the other paragraph says that they will? What? I feel like I'm going around in circles, or maybe I'm just too tired and everything is starting to moosh together.

If they look at Baker's GPA ONLY, I'll be screwed. A-, A, B+ (on a math class that will NOT even transfer). I don't even have 18 credits earned at Baker, I only have 13 (9 if you don't count the math class). I swear, if I had an albatross, I would name it "Baker College."

Ha ha.... "I swear, if I had an albatross, I would name it "Baker College."

I am totally confused also, if they go back more than 2 semesters (from not transferring cleanly) I am screwed also. I wish now that I would have just taken 12 credits of PE and nutrition at MCC during fall. Do you know that the counselor at MCC also told me that since it is so hard to get into anatomy at MCC that they suggest the students go to Baker for those classes....she actually told me that when I questioned about the transferring and she replied "Baker doesn't like to take ours, but we take theirs", and then that they suggest their students go to Baker for full classes. Huh?

See if they will tell you what classes they will be using and the GPA they are going to use. I keep asking them to tell me the actual GPA, or heck, throw me a bone and give me a letter grade, I don't care. All I want to know is the GPA so I can get an idea.
