MCC Fall 2009 applicants, post your HESI class average.

Published

Okay it is a long time until the letters go out and we are all wondering if our HESI score was good enough. So let's be silly and play detectives and see if we can get an idea of where we stand.

For 1000 students with around 30 seats per room, there was around 34 classes.

1. Greent52389- 1/7/09, Rm 130, 81.73 average

2. Shannonmarie7- 1/7/09, Rm 115, 81.75 average

Repy with your test date, number of the room you were in, and the average score from your class and I will update this page to see what some of the overall class averages are.:smokin:

hi everyone, i took my hesi @ macomb center campus in bldg. a, room 123 on december 12. i scored an 88.94% :crying2:. i currently have a 4.0 gpa :yeah: and i studied my butt off for this test having been out of school for over a decade. reading the threads on this site has proven more discouraging than anything for me, but i talked to the nursing dept. at macomb and i feel better. the class average was only 82%. first, several of these threads are saying that each class has 30 seats, however, when i asked the instructor in my class (who was very friendly, helpful and nice), she said that each testing group has 25 students. the nursing dept. told me directly that the 30 additional seats that are being made available this year is the minimum number they're considering, so take it for what it's worth. she also said that just because you score in the 90's doesn't mean anything if your gpa isn't equally impressive. a word of encouragement that i particularly appreciated....she said that last year there were 150 people allowed on the wait list and out of those, by march of the following year when they clear the waitlist for the newcomers, they had already offered 139 of those waiting a placement in the nursing program due to drop-outs, transfers and those choosing a different program. that's something to be hopeful about.:saint: one last thing, i had mostly nursing hopefuls in my fall classes and many of them commented that the hesi was not that important, that it was simply a general education type of test. it may be a general education type test, but it's very important for getting into the nursing program, and many of the students who felt that way did not score well on the test at all and now have to consider a different path.

Wow, thank you for your post. This is certainly good news! I think so many rumors float around and nobody bothers to check to see if they are true. I feel so much better that you talked directly to the nursing department. Who knows, maybe they will take more than 30 additional students. Again, thank you.

good luck to you! here's hoping!

First, I wanted to say that I think that it would be impossible and even more unfair if they were to put some sort of subjective information into the criteria. I mean, it would be subjective based on us AND on the person deciding. That is why they have to use this sort of testing to figure the ranking. And while I have been negatively affected by the objective criteria at Baker, I do understand why they need to do it that way. I wish Baker would do like Macomb and use the actual score on the the NET as a criteria. It would make more sense to me, than topping it out at 80. People who get an 80 get the same points as my 85 and my friends 92, but if someone scored 75 they get less points.

Second, they use entrance testing because there is research that shows that people who score (not sure the numbers) a certain amount on the test are most likely to succeed in the program AND pass the NCLEX on the first try.

Third, I think a lot of different types go into nursing. I can't imagine seeing patients as just bodies, though. And I would never wish everyone else would just fail. Of course, I hope for the best for myself and I put in the effort I need to get what I need out of the test or the class, but not at anyone else's expense. I earned my score, I don't need to wish for a high one by wishing others fail.

I scored a 96 on the hesi and have a 4.0. I am fairly certain, I will be accepted to MCC, but will go to Baker if possible. While I agree that the whole thing stinks as far as the money and time I have put into it. At this point, it is the shortest route possible to getting my degree and I would avoid having to file paperwork in an attempt to get financial aid to finish at MCC. If I am accepted at Baker, I would have 50 weeks of classes left, at MCC, I still have Nutrition, ethics and PE to take plus the nursing classes. The nursing classes account for another 64 weeks total (from what I figured, I might be a little off) plus the 8 weeks for the nurtrition class.

On one hand, I want to go to MCC, on the other Baker is faster. So we shall see.

TS, I agree, I wish I would have started reading the boards sooner. By the time I started it was too late to get a date for the HESI and I was *so sure* based on past scores at Baker that I would be in.

I wish the letters would just get here already. For crying out loud, how long could it possibly take?? *L*

Hopeful2009,

Thank you so much for the information, it makes me feel a little better also. thank you for taking the time to check it all out. Here is to hoping that 88% will get us in.

I have no hope for getting into MCC because they took my last 18 credits from Baker instead of my last 12 which would have given me a 3.9. My HESI score was decent, but A&P 2 brought my GPA down, so I am now stuck hoping to get a break and make it into Baker at some point. It would be nice if they added more spots than normally thought at MCC, but I have already prepared myself for the denial letter in April.

i'm sorry shannonmarie7, i know just how stressful this has been on all of us. i'm in a home situation where i've been forced into it so making it into the nursing program is essential if i plan on surviving. i don't know what i'll do if i don't make it in exactly, i don't know that i can handle driving all the way out to henry ford community college in dearborn everyday (there's no waiting list out there i'm told by a friend who's going to be going there), but where there's a will, there's a way. i'm hopeful for all of us who are out here just trying to make it and giving it all we've got. hang in there, don't give up, you can do it one way or another if you really want to. there's always a way. talk to people, do a little more research and never give up hope...april could still bring an unexpected surprise. :)

yeah... hfcc is probably one of my options in the future also, i live in roseville, if you are close by we could carpool there....lol. my hubby says i should complain to mcc because at first they said only my 12 transfer credits up until i asked them about what they were telling other students. i was like yeah right, i'm sure they will love to hear what i have to say...lol. i can't even get them to tell me the exact gpa they are using, they just keep saying last 18 credits. i keep hoping that they forget and do only the last 12....:D

They will use every term that has at least 18 credits. So if your last 4 terms had 20 credits, they will use all 20 to figure the GPA. If you only took 3 terms to get at least 18, they use that.

So for mine, they will use the last one (6) the one before that (9), the one before that (12) to figure it.

I took 9 credits in Fall 08, and 9 credits in Summer 08. I am assuming that is what they are taking, but 2 hours of that were lab classes so I am not sure if they count to them as actual "credit" hours since they are the second part to the lecture class. I'm hoping they will count it.

They should count it that way. They use 18 because they aren't "even" with their credits. So our classes like that are 5 credits. There isn't any reason they would ignore that credit.

We had our FIRST HESI before X-Mas. Over 1/2 the class failed. I hear that's common for the first test. Is that true?
