Hey everyone, it's Kay again...I took the nclex two days ago (May 19th) and at 265 questions...

I PASSED

So hopefully that eases the minds of anyone else who gets 265 questions of their exam. This was my 2nd attempt at the NCLEX and all I can say is, take your time with every single question. My first time, I got pretty impatient after not finishing the exam after 75 questions and I went downhill from there from just rushing and not paying FULL attention. I'm a fast test taker at school so I wasn't used to this situation. This second time, I just took my time on every single question -- up to question 265 -- and hoped for the best.

I wanna thank you guys...I wish I had stumbled upon this forum earlier. It really provided a lot of mental and emotional support for the grueling 36 hours I waited for my results. (I know others can't to the QuickResults thing, and PROPS for you guys ENDURING the WAIT).

I wanna keep updated with all my fellow May test takers...GOOD LUCK and TAKE YOUR TIME! :redbeathe:redbeathe:redbeathe

Yes, that's how I test as well. I think by doing that I really messed up my first exam. I think during the exam I stopped taking it seriously and just sped along the rest of the test...so yeah, definitely next time just take your time on each item...since we've got 6 hours...! =)

You'll do great on TAKE 2! You've taken the exam already and are familiar with the "other" stuff like getting to the exam, getting accustomed to the testing site, etc. So keep your head up, breathe, and take the breaks that they offer...you'll do great! :heartbeat

Well said. I truly know how you feel about having to take the exam more than one time. I had a friend that passed on the first try and she works in the ICU but she had to go back to training several times because she just was not grasping the concept so the number of times you take the test will not mean you will be a good nurse.

I left my last job because the charge nurse was talking down to me because I had not passed yet and I felt that was inappropriate and disrespectful. I did give her a few choice words before I left.

To all who are waiting on the your results and repeat test takers keep the faith it will happen, I am a living testimony. I took the test 5xs so I truly understand how you feel. Keep pushing forward no matter how hard it may seen the reward at the end is the greatest!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

LETJACKSON--

You hold your head high !, if you have to test again--you do that. i know whats its like to what feels like a 30 mile marathon....so very tired at the end., with the finish line just ahead..--

i know exactly how you are feeling,

please believe me, when you DO pass, and you WILL--ALL that pain, sorrow, depression--it goes away almost instantly.-its a feeling ONLY re-test takers feel.--no offense to people who pass on their first attempt, but us re-takers-who have lived with the depression of failing and having to face our families and friends-and having to start all over again

we are in a seperate "boat", that they will never understand. BUT, when we do pass--the reward / feeling (in my opinion) is SOOOO much more intense !--

I will come in here everyday until you pass-to encourage you on--

you, GWAFU , mytonezucs, and others who encouraged me in my darkest hours-and motivated me.

--the other day someone from my class who passed their test the first time was talking to another friend of mine about the NCLEX and pass rates. The one freind who passed said "if you dont pass on the first attempt you really are an idiot"

Let me tell you--I had a few choice words for this person.

You know, if YOU really think about it.

getting your liscense is the easy part---i know it seems so ahrd now, but look at the whole 30 year carrer you will have.

the important part is NOT how you got your liscense (# of tests etc)

the REAL part is KEEPING your liscense (not hurting anybody, making mistakes)

and WHAT YOU DO WITH IT--are you that nurse ratchet who really doesnt care about people or are you that nurse that spends that extra 10 minutes with a crying pt even though you are waaaayyyy behind in your charting, meds, etc...

I will never be know as the "3rd time NCLEX nurse taker"

I WILL be known as a "great pt care provider and advocate"

excuse me for my words, i don't have anything against re takers, its just that i was so overwhelmed with the news i received and that i was truly thankful for having to pass on first take..and yes you're right malenursesrock, that i wont understand how it feels to be on your boat..but then i still have my own marathon in which i guess you too wont understand..i came from a Filipino family, I'm 21 y/o and still depending on my parents for these exams,(they wont allow me to work for it.its in our culture i guess) i have taken my Philippine local boards, the IELTS and the NCLEX all using my parents money, see this is very pressuring to me, since we are not well of, we just have enough for our studies and exams, and to think that my parents money are 40plus times your money here in the U.S.. it is a very high investment for us.so imagine how great it feels for me to pass., and not to burden my parents more financially.. and to finally pass the LAST ever exam to take. because you see being a foreign-born, to be able to work here, i need to pass series of exams, that is why i was so happy to pass., but i have nothing against you guyz. In fact i look up to you all for being strong in this NCLEX battle. . and for being so supportive and helpful:) (that someone from your class is rude for saying that to your friend, we all nurses can pass all in God's time) and yes i agree with you that it doesn't matter how we got our license, but on how we keep it and how we do with it .. Thank you and God Bless!:)

Well took the test today, and I'm numb..........had 75 questions 15 SATA, about 10 priority, and only 3 or 4 delegation......lots of infection control, one dose calculation, lots of meds that I had no clue about...no sure if I passed or failed.

i'm doing this question on saunder's 3rd ed cd and i'm soo confused with their answer..the question regarding cpr asked to prioritize the following:

1. check for a pulse at the carotid artery

2. perform chest compression

3. determine breathlessness

4. initiate breathing

5. open the client's airway

6. determine unconsciousness by shaking the client and asking "are you ok?"

the answer in the cd is 563421

i thought the first step is determine that the client is unconscious as opposed to being intoxicated, sleeping or hearing impaired.

i also thought that pulselessness is determined before giving chest compression...i will prioritize it as 653412..what do you think? guess they mixed it up...
