2 patients requested not to have me back
Thank you for the reply. Yes, English is my second language, but I don't have a thick accent, some patients are even surprised that I'm only here in the US for more than a year, they said I speak clearly, and to be honest, I consider myself better in speaking English compared to others who have been here for 10, 20 years or so. I don't know, but maybe I still need to work on my communication .

2 patients requested not to have me back
I've been working nights in post partum for 8 months now and it's been good so far until last week:sniff:. We usually get the same patient the next night, so I was surprised to find out that one of my patients was assigned to a different nurse. I didn't ask the day supervisor, I thought that maybe they needed to spread the C-sections and the lady partsl deliveries. My co-worker who had my patient during that day told me that the patient requested not to have me back as her nurse, but the patient did not say anything why she did not want me back, I couldn't help but cry coz I felt so bad, I told my supervisor about it, and she told me that the day supervisor did not mention anything to her, if it was something, it will be brought to her attention, she asked the night RN to ask the patient and the pt didn't say anything against me, my supervisor assured me that it's not me, that it happens to most of the nurses there. I didn't hear anything even after the patient was discharged, and the supervisors always do a survey on the pt before they go. The same thing happened the other night, one of my patients requested not to have me back and her reason is that we don't "click". The day supervisor mentioned it during our huddle and everyone heard it. I was so embarassed:imbar. After everybody left, I cried . Two consecutive weeks, 2 patients refused me. I feel so bad . I feel like I lost all the confidence that I gained for the past 8 months. I don't think I'm a bad nurse, I have patients who were very happyn and even sent me a card. I'm Asian, could that be the reason why they refused me? Did they just happen to be racist? :stone They were both nice to me the whole night, I didn't have any hint that they will request not to have me back. I'm trying to be strong and carry on:o

tell me i will be ok working the night shift!
It will actually be your advantage to work nights. I'm a new nurse, just like you, I oriented on days for 12 weeks and work nights for 8 months now. In our unit, it's a slower pace at night since we don't do discharge after 10 pm, it's not as crazy as day shift, you'll have more time to learn, less stressful. You'll get used to it. I wish you the best of luck!

should i start in LTC?
i just got my RN license and thinking of working in an LTC. i never had any experience of working here in the US, from reading the posts here, i feel like i am going to feel overwhelmed with the amount of work to be done in the LTC. i love working with the elderly, i just don't know if i can handle the job..is it advisable for me to start right away in the LTC? thanks

How long did it take you to get a job?
hi! how's your job hunting? any interview yet? where are you located? i understand how you feel, it's been two weeks since i got my license and no calls yet. i know i have to be patient, there will be a place for us..i talked to one nurse recruiter and she informed me that they hire new grads even before they graduate.. some hospitals like Kaiser, conduct new grad program only twice a year. they have one in aug but all the positions are filled up already. The next will be in December and they start hiring in October or November..I don't think i can wait that long..i want and i need to work soon...goodluck to us:redpinkhe

How long did it take you to get a job?
hi! glad you found me here!!! i really want med-surg, but i i'm open to any areas..i'm even willing to try nursing homes as my last choice because i really want to work in a hospital..guess i just have to wait and pray that some recruiters call me..did i mention that i'm not from here? I graduated in the Philippines, could that also be the reason why i'm not getting any interviews? or maybe i'm just getting impatient, it's only been two weeks..most of the open positions in the hospital websites are for RN II or clinical nurse II where they require 2 years experience..so you applied Dec last year? when did they start calling you for interview?

How long did it take you to get a job?
i just passed the nclex and got my license. i'm wondering how long does it usually take to get a job if one has no experience at all. will it be to my disadvantage that i'm a foreign grad?

New Grads - where is there a nursing glut?
hi! where exactly in central valley? i just got my RN license and applied for several jobs online but no one is calling me. i graduated in the Philippines and don't have any job experience. most of the job openings in the hospital around my area requires 1-2 years experience. i already received a rejection letter from one of the hospitals, they really need one with experience. i'm thinking of applying in a nursing home, will that make a difference? is that a good start?
