Where should a new grad apply???

Which hospitals are best at hiring new grad RN's with ADN? I just spoke to UMMC and was told they do not hire ADN nurses that aren't already working for there facility or have done some sort of practicum with them. They will only consider new grad BSN nurses from the outside! I was bummed to hear this.

Anyway, any hospital recommendations for new grad ADN nurses?

Get your BSN asap!!! lol..That is all I have to say...it is very few hospitals that accept nurses with their associates..it is possible..but extremely difficult. Even though UMMC is claiming not to accept ADNs now..I know three of my classmates are working there now. It may be a networking thing though, and they are also working towards their BSNs now. I have a few classmates that went on to work at drug rehab. One classmate working at Adventist, and one working at St. Agnes. And, last but not least, one classmate who is working at the nursing home.

The market is rough for new grads, and especially for ADN new grads. I graduated with my ADN last May and didn't find a job until Oct. Then in Dec I was called to interview for my dream unit in a city hospital. I was offered the job with the condition that I would be enrolled in a BSN program before I started my first day. If you want to get into acute care then get enrolled in a BSN program stat and put it on your resume.

med star hospitals are actually more strict about hiring bsn nurses.

St. Joe's in Towson had some openings for ADN new grads. They are a part of the University of Maryland system but are not a magnet hospital.

Yup I second that...it's tough. I'm a recent ADN graduate and am looking. I have an interview at 1 DC hospital (not one of the super popular ones like GW, GT or WHC) and an interview next week in Maryland due to an inside connection so YEA it's tough! Also, I think some of the not as stellar hospitals in MD will interview new grads but I want to make sure I get a decent training/orientation so I'm a little iffy on those

Of course, I'm doing the BSN asap but you know...there are issues why some of us don't go straight for the BSN unfortunately
