i would say practice questions, know your labs, never call the doctor or anyone else first! there is always something the nurse can do before calling someone. always "stay with the patient" assess before implenmenting where appopriate. and most importantly, pray and have a positive "i will pass attitude"

Thank you it was very helpful..:redbeathe

Hello everyone,

I am kind of new to "allnurses", I am still a student, 2nd semester, but already looking for info on nclex or anything that can help me even now with test taking. I see that a lot of people are recommending the Kaplan review, but I am looking for something that breaks the info down by chapters , that also gives some clinical application info, as most of us in the class don't feel like we're given crucial info that would help us in making decisions.

Has anybody worked with the review program from medspub.com , I found it as I was searching on the web, and it looks very thorough, comes with 18 DVDs covering chapters just as in the med-surge book, from acid-base to cardiovascular, psych, with questions for all. I thought that this layout, (chapter by chapter) would be awesome as a supplement before taking my unit exams. They do have on-line reviews as well, but at this point in my training

I think this is more beneficial.

This program costs $500.00 So the question is, has anyone reviewed from this, dealt with it, heard of it before I spend this much?

Thanks for your input,

Below is a breakdown on what it covers.

  • ll the content of a Live, 4-day NCLEX Exam Review
  • Review time cut down as our experts emphasize key NCLEX exam points
  • Expert nurse educators who conduct lively instruction in all clinical areas
  • Over 23 hours of content review and question/answer sessions
  • Animated question and answer skill-building sessions
  • Strategies and detailed rationales help students analyze questions & become great nurse thinkers
  • Medical terminology is explained and applied
  • Dynamic, colorful charts and graphs for the visual learner
  • Visual cues help students focus on the most crucial information
  • Permanent locator bar on the screen- so students always know where they are in the program
  • Visual prompts help students follow along in their Companion Guide

hi suzanne. i need your help. i've taken the nclex-rn exam for the second time and has not succeeded. i took kaplan, did questions on saunders Q/A, learningextension and non of them helped. i need some guidance on how to study and succeed on the third try.... can you please send me the requirements.....thanks in advance.

Hey felixfelix,

Sounds like a good test ...i've heard priority is always good to get on the test ...I have a question for you though could you elaborate as why you felt Saunders didnt prepare you well... becoz a few of us here are basically sticking it out with it so ..it would be nice to know...

Well, Saunders gives you a good basis..which is great for knowledge questions, of which you will get some...like labs, sxs, and some adverse events....you gotta know this, but my experience was that it's kind of assumed you know this stuff so the nclex takes it up a notch...like let's say you're watching someone and they're swallowing a lot, or they're a certain age and acting a certain way...what does it mean? How are you going to get to the answer? If all of the answers are correct at face value, then it implies you are thinking like a troubleshooter to get it right, which means you need the piece of knowledge in the answer plus the supporting logic in your head, which was supplied by saunders q&a review. I hope I'm not being too obtuse, but y'all know I can't use examples from the test, even though it would make things so much clearer. I think you need the saunders basics or you're gonna be hurtin', but one way of amalgamating the knowledge is to just do hundreds of questions. Remember doing patho reports in school, where you had 4 books and the net open at once to put together your report? That's what each priority question is like on the nclex.

what the ?!?

ok I was doing questions and this one question about a student nurse changing the dressing of the newly inserted peritoneal dialysis catheter, it says which would require intervention of RN? I chose SN should clean insertion site from outer abdomen toward the site, and it marked me incorrect!!! I'm going over the rationale and all the other options are correct procedures except the one that I chose which says "should clean site outward toward outer abdomen". So why mark me wrong?!?!

I feel like laughing at myself again. hahaha! :lol2:

"from outer abdomen toward the site" in querstion means -> from outside towards inside: we don't want bacterias and bugs to go into peritoneum. Peritonitis, one big complication of peritoneal dialysis.

"clean site outward toward outer abdomen" in rationale means -> Clean from inside to outside

I hope that was helpful. I'm making the similar mistakes so many times also. Sometimes, I'm missing a word when reading the question etc. Like simple mistakes, that even a 1 grade student wouldn't miss especially when I am anxious.

U are doing G-urinary also? I'm having med problems. I don't remember a thing. Need to look at it again.

It's helpful when you guys post ur questions and problems, all of us are learning also :). Like I remember Igmirmor posting a calculation question, I made a same mistake that others did. And also incentive spirometer, it was helpful. Thank you

And I dunno who wrote in their post, but I read it couple of days ago, They wrote" If I slack more, I'll get more of this." I really liked what u wrote there. I forgot who was it. Thank you. It is like each one of u guys when u post anything, u are posting exactly what is going on in my mind.

Felix, that is true what you said because when I took the exam first time and found out I failed, I pretty much knew it was because of 1.) I lack the basic knowledge and 2.) I was way too nervous. On first take, I bought my Saunders a month before the exam, and when I opened it up and started reading I got overwhelmed, there's so much information, I couldnt absorb it all at the same time, I went to a foreign school and some of the stuff that I was reading was new to me, or I havent had a good grasp with it at nursing school, it was so overwhelming!!! I think I'm good at the analysis/application/troubleshooting stuff, but if I dont have the basic knowledge, oh heck yes I am pretty much in trouble. Its like, how are you going to fix that leaky faucet if you don't have tools and the manual? So yeah I can relate to the whole "patho report with four books open". It's like with nclex you need to play connect-the-dots...

Hey guys,

Ive been silently watching this thread since I passed my NCLEX on Feb. 19th. If anyone has any questions please feel free to ask me on this thread or PM me. My heart aches for how much stress you all are going thru! Believe me, I went through the same thing!

By the way, I didn't do any review programs or anything from Kaplan. I self reviewed from Saunders, Davis and a few others and passed with 75 Q's my frist time. Good Luck to you all!!
