A thread for all those in March who are planning to take the NCLEX offering both support and any hints or tips that help
Good luck to all
Hey felixfelix,
Sounds like a good test ...i've heard priority is always good to get on the test ...I have a question for you though could you elaborate as why you felt Saunders didnt prepare you well... becoz a few of us here are basically sticking it out with it so ..it would be nice to know...
Just finished nclex a couple of hours ago. It's a strange test. It's probably harder than anything you had in nursing school....i think I passed, but we'll see...took me 2 hrs to do 75 q's.Go slow. You are your own worst enemy for the first 10 minutes of the test, if you're feeling a bit nervous. Do not let yourself race thru the first questions...you'll find a groove.
Got a ton of priority q's. 3 calcs. 2-4 meds. Did I mention priority?
I kinda feel that saunder's didn't prepare me as well as I would have hoped, although I definitely needed a refresher. I will keep this book as it's a great overview, but the test was definitely more in-depth than the review book. the kaplan review book strategies probably saved me on about 8 or so questions. I'm glad I re-read it last nite. If it turns out I didn't pass, I will definitely know how to study for round 2.
it's NOT the hardest test I've ever taken, but it's in the top...3.
finally, I can do a mind dump on disappearing twin syndrome, etc.
good luck everyone. you can do it....don't let all the freaking out on this board get you too anxious.
Read Kaplan and Saunders on my own, good luck on your test tomorrow!I'm not sure if I'm going to retake it again, maybe after another year or so. I'm not sad about it or maybe the gravity of the situation hasn't dawned on me yet, c'est la vie.
Did you do the kaplan question trainer?...if so what were your scores for the question trainer 1-7?
Thanks

Nope didn't take the QT, just read their Strategy book and did the comprehensive from Saunders. On the practice tests for both books I averaged 50%-70%.
Again good luck on your exam, I'm not going to let this result bring me down. I will do better next time.
to jitan: I'm sorry to hear that! It's ok! You can try it again when you feel like taking it again. Good luck to you!
to faith: dont think that you only have two weeks left. Think that you still have two weeks left! Calm down and get to work! You can do it! Have faith! hehehe! Goodluck!
to everyone whose waiting for their results: goodluck!
to everyone whose testing in the next few days: goodluck!
wait... hahaha! I just answered my own question. You dont blow it...you breathe in..
A friend of mine kept telling me that you blow on it, kind of like this one toy that has a ball that floats up if you blow on it. Ok, that was messed up. Good thing I read this:
How to use an Incentive Spirometer: http://medicalcenter.osu.edu/pdfs/PatientEd/Materials/PDFDocs/dis-cond/respirat/in-sp-mouth.pdf
So, incentive spirometer..slow deep breath through the mouthpiece..hahaha! I want to laugh at myself!

There is a test you perform to test the total expiration volume...this is a test where you take a deep breathe and then blow into a tube very much like the IS but this test is to detect if you have asthma or not or better yet lung capacity.

Not necessary detect asthma as if asthma well controlled you can have normal readings. It is a good indicator of COPD.
I have asthma and my readings are all above normal but I know when I need my inhaler my readings will have dropped.

I know it's one of the most difficult stuation that you have to face right now. But don't despair! keep on going. If you believe, God always has a reason.
I am also from the Phils now working in UK and like you, NCLEX will definitely change my future plans if I'll pass the test. I am still anxiously waiting for the result. But whatever the outcome is , I've told myself that we are lucky in some ways but definitely we can't have everything in life.
CHEER UP! take a break and when you're ready...Go for the next plan. I'll include you in my prayers.
