Manners......I am hard pressed to see anyone use good manners in schools anymore. Heck, for that matter, almost anywhere.
Students pop in the clinic and shout "bandaids". I say, yes, would you like some bandaids for your classroom ? They say yeah...... No please......?? I give them a handful and they walk out of the clinic without any THANK YOU. I have to say..."what do we say" and they look at me like I have three eyes ????
WHISKEY, TANGO, FOXTROT !!
It's not just the students. I have teachers that won't say please or thank you either.
I want to very sarcastically say: "YOUR WELCOME" when they leave here without so much as a thank you.
I mean, who is teaching kids manners these days ? Certainly not parents, and apparently teachers either !
The times sure have changed my friends.
A few notes - how quick are parents to pick these kids up for such minor complaints?! Holy crow - i had a kid that called home from the main office today for an abrasion on his knee. When i saw him walking to his mom and asked her really? she said "oh, i know his knee probably is sore."
Also - i've been trying to train the students in my school not to just come in and blurt out something at me. Granted, i haven't had great success, but dammit, i'm trying!! These kids will burst in and demand whatever they need whether i'm on the phone or talking to a teacher/parent/admin or handling an emergency or even if i'm just finishing an entry and don't want to lose my thought. I find their expectation of immediate service amazing and often think to myself that they don't know how good they have it. There is no other time in their lives that they can stop what they are doing and go to their medical professional that is there at there beck and call for whatever minor irritation that they may have.

Lol my daughter was such a nurse's kid: she knew from kindergarten that unless blood was spurting across the room, a bone was poking out or an extremity had an extra bend in it, not to expect me to come running.
What frosted my cupcakes was the time she got dive bombed by a squadron of dumpster wasps at school, started having allergic type symptoms (all the hits were above the shoulders) and the principal waited over 30 minutes before even thinking about calling me...she had to puke on his Gucci loafers first. When I got there I could hear her wheezing from 10 feet away...not a happy mom that day. [emoji35][emoji35]
And now all the indignant threads on here about the unfairness of minimum passing grades, challenging test questions, challenging NCLEX, complaining about having to actually touch sick people make more sense, don't they??God forbid a Snowflake should ever be exposed to competition, adversity and just plain life ain't fair and is actually a bit of a *****. Because those skills are NEVER going to be needed in the real world of adulting.
P.S. One more thread congratulating and high-fiving someone who is shameless enough to admit that it took them thirteen tries to pass NCLEX and I may not be responsible for my actions.
I can grasp that there might be one person out there arrogant and ignorant enough for the shameless self congratulation in bragging about how smart they are and how they were the best student with a perfect GPA while admitting that it took them thirteen tries to pass NCLEX due to stress issues. What I cannot fathom is that there are so many ignoramouses out there high fiving them for doing so. Isn't anyone concerned about what happens when the overwhelming stress meets a deteriorating patient? Or doesn't the snowflake care enough about the patients to be stressed when they go south?
Not supposed to talk about post-graduation plans?? Wow.
I have a kid who will be promoting from 8th grade here in a few weeks and the admin had a meeting with all the parents and the kids and they talked about how important this jump to high school is and they talked about plans after high school and they mentioned community colleges, universities, the military, tech schools, etc.
How rude! Expecting kids to pay attention and do well in high school so they can educate themselves further afterwards and get a job! ?
Harrummph!

Yah, Not gonna stop me...cause you know with the next blow of the wind, we will be supposed to be asking. Not asking will then be perceived as not caring....

Had our Medieval Fair day Friday, Had a round robin style class for all students and my wife and I did medicine. We did a general class for 5-14 year olds and 2 students had to leave because it was too stressful. One of those children got pulled for the day by mom because it was just "too much" for him.

Inquiring minds want to know- what did the general class consist of?
It was very educational for us as well. We discussed how things like isolation, antiseptic and anaesthesia were all innovated during the middle ages but then abandoned for 500 years. Nothing overly "nurse like" in detail, except trepanning which was used to relieve CVP, again, 500 years before it's time.

Wow, I'm traumatized justing reading about it. No wonder some snowflakes had to leave...
