Mandatory flu shots????

Nurses COVID

Published

It didn't dawn on me until just right now, don't ask me why, that my choice of NOT getting a flu shot will NOT get me into a nursing program. The director at my school of choice basically stated "it is a requirement that you receive one, however you can sign a declaration that you do not wish to receive one." Then I asked, "would that inhibit my chances of getting into the program?" She replied, "well, the facilities in which we work with it is required due to you working with elderly clients; If you do not wish to get the flu shot perhaps you should look into another career."

*****?? (excuse the language) I have worked in nursing homes, health centers, private duty, home health agencies, visiting nurses association, hospice AND THEY NEVER REQUIRED me to ever receive or even ASKED if I have obtained a flu shot!!! (mid 90's)

So, anyone please tell me my dream of becoming a nurse is already dead because I REFUSE to get a flu shot???!!! seriously??? I am so upset right now!!!

If this is honestly your biggest hesitation to you education, do us all a favor and don't become a nurse.

Forgive me if I''m rude, but this is rude.

Also, how uninformed can you be?

How naive you are to think that something is true just because government or a doctor or a manufacturer says it! Do you not see all the mess our current President and his sons and team members are making? Not that we can always trust the news either. (I do admire certain things Mr. Trump is doing,)

You can trust science and facts though. Get woke right? It's the irony that the anti-vax crowd is calling people (who trust decades of science over conjecture) "sheeple" and "uninformed" while they themselves have no data to support their opinions, rather, they read blogs telling them what to think.

The shots are not only risky but often not effective. Please research this issue and the political issues attached to it.

Give it a fair hearing and don't assume that the shots are innocuous and well-intended.

I actually have looked at the peer reviewed scientific literature on the subject. The scientific literature is consistent that almost everyone can benefit from having the influenza vaccine.

Where is your peer reviewed scientific evidence to show that vaccines aren't effective or have more side-effects than what is shown already in the scientific literature?

Where is your "research" or are you just being a conspiracy theory sheep?

But don't you get it, wtb???? The scientific community is part of the conspiracy ...

And they are also nursing school instructors. Bwa ha ha!

Lmao not every nurse believes that vaccines are doing what they are suppose to do. All vaccines can be traced back to bill Gates and planned parenthood .. fact

Lol..yeah, it's time for you to hang up your stethoscope. It's one thing to complain that the flu shot isn't as effective as it should be, but your statement above crosses over into crazy town. SMH...

did you end up getting the flu shot?

I question the utility of the flu shot. Flu mutates a lot.

I also take issue with the fact that we truly do not know what it will do to people to get this shot every year for 80+ years. For this reason I do not opt for the flu shot for my children. But they are not in nursing school.

We will eventually find out whether it is good, bad or neither to get a flu shot every year.

Until then I look at my immediate consequences. If I don't get a flu shot before November 30, I will be banned from work. So I'm getting one.

Were you not taught how to do a lit search in nursing school? Long term effects of vaccines are well established. The influenza vaccine has been around 80 years.

Are you now going to say it needs to be 100 years? Your comments and others just like it from others have no basis in evidence and are just a way to deflect your mistrust of a well established and safe medication that has saved hundreds of millions of humans.

I wonder if people who are against the flu shot have ever actually had the flu. I was ambivalent about flu shots until I got the flu. Sickest I've ever been in my life. I will always get the flu shot now, because even if there's only a small chance it'll be effective, that small chance is better than no chance at all. And now that I'm a nursing student, I'd never put my patients at risk of being that sick.

In young adults the flu vaccine is up to 80+% effective, and even on its worst year it's still usually 60+% effective.
