Mandatory flu shots????

It didn't dawn on me until just right now, don't ask me why, that my choice of NOT getting a flu shot will NOT get me into a nursing program. The director at my school of choice basically stated "it is a requirement that you receive one, however you can sign a declaration that you do not wish to receive one." Then I asked, "would that inhibit my chances of getting into the program?" She replied, "well, the facilities in which we work with it is required due to you working with elderly clients; If you do not wish to get the flu shot perhaps you should look into another career."

*****?? (excuse the language) I have worked in nursing homes, health centers, private duty, home health agencies, visiting nurses association, hospice AND THEY NEVER REQUIRED me to ever receive or even ASKED if I have obtained a flu shot!!! (mid 90's)

So, anyone please tell me my dream of becoming a nurse is already dead because I REFUSE to get a flu shot???!!! seriously??? I am so upset right now!!!

People really need to know whether something is worthy of recognition before giving it credibility.

Grabbing this idiot's article as some kind of proof-positive that there's no real reason to get a flu shot is like using an article posted on a satire blog as proof-positive that aliens frequently land on the roof of the White House, slip inside unnoticed, just so they can eat Pop Tarts before flying off to Mars again.

Pretty much the same validity, LOL....

I am in an LPN to RN bridge program. They strongly encourage you to get a flu shot. If you do not, you need to comply with whatever facility policy you are doing clinicals at. That could mean wearing a mask during flu season, having your temperature taken etc. I just got the flu shot.

I have another complaint. I shouldn't be forced to wash my hands at work. How is it ok for my job to tell me what to do with my body? My friend once had an anaphylactic reaction to soap while washing her hands. I don't think that I should be forced to without extensive long-term research studying the possible adverse reactions.

Nor she we need to wear clothing at work. Our ancestors routinely were naked and they never had cancer or diabetes or autism. Now we're forced to wear clothing with all of its artificial dyes and chemicals and rates of those things have gone through the roof! It's just not natural to have all of that fabric right up against our skin at all times! And there has never been a study proving it's 100% safe. Clothing is just a scam to make Big Textile richer at the cost of our health.

And what about deodorant?!?? It causes the Alzheimer's!! Why are we forced to wear it at work?? How dare they tell us we have to alter our natural scent with artificial chemicals!!!

Oh my gosh . . .. .just read on a FB question about advice regarding flu shots for kids a comment that stated this young woman knew a woman whose 15 year old son got Autism after a flu shot. :facepalm:

At first I thought it was a satirical joke like you guys are doing now......but I know the young lady and she's rabidly anti-vax and pays no attention to science.

I agree. I have dry skin that sometimes cracks and bleeds around my knuckles in the winter. I shouldn't have to wash my hands, it poses a risk to me I could get an infection such as Ebola, MRSA or HIV from the breaks in the skin. Clearly the patients and visitors are a greater risk to me than I am to them. If we can't force them all to wash their hands before they come in to the facility and at specified intervals, I shouldn't have to either.
