male nurses

Published

I have not been in this profession for long but then i can see that we have made it women's profession and then is not helping that much ,especially in my country and other few countries.

The male figure in this profession would be awesome because of their inherent natural ability in handling physical situation ranging from carrying of patients in the carriers, wheeling them into the hospitals and wards, helping in shifting them on bed when they are immobile and other activities that are tedious.

I appeal to our men to come join us and make the health sector and the nursing profession sweeter.lets make it a profession for all that is my take amongst other things they can do for us..

One of the best nurses (that I know) for psych situations, combative patients, etc is a former prison guard in a mens prison. She decided that wasn't what she wanted to do for the rest of her working life so went to nursing school. She is fierce.

One of my classmates became a NICU nurse. You should see him handling those tiny little babies. This is a big hulking man, who has the most gentle touch. And he is very good at what he does.

My point: Every nurse, regardless of gender, brings something to the table. Gender shouldn't have anything to do with it. Skill should.

I think it's a myth! You know, like unicorns, bigfoot and honest politicians

Don't really believe that there is inherent natural ability in wheeling patients around and shifting them in the bed but what do I know. maybe I have been gifted with this natural talent as a woman and didn't even know it!!!

What's interesting about your post is that you are focused on the strength aspects of the male of the species that must make them more desirable as nurses and the male nurses I work with all make it a very big point that they are there as nurses and will not do more than their fair share of lifting. And believe you me that they don't lift a pound more than their female coworkers.

My opinion is that if more men wish to come into nursing then they had better be gifted with the brains the rest of us weaklings have lol.

YES, YES! Let's dilute all of the estrogen a bit. Tired of all the backstabbing, grudges, nepotism, whining, gossiping, bullying, favoritism. We women behave better when men are around. That's MY opinion.

You don't get an opinion. You are a mere woman.

I'm here, I'm here! :^) But hey, we can hurt our backs too ... I did not too long ago. Here's a funny story, though: one of the stranger residents (who isn't on my unit) in my facility saw me walking by one time, looked at my badge, and said (in her alien-like voice) 'Reg-is-tered nurse'. I said 'Unh-huh'. She said 'But you are not a woman!'. Ha ha.

And yall not going to address the fact that when males enter nursing they just rise the ranks far quicker. The glass elevator in nursing is definitely there and this post is so sexist yikes

I welcome the addition of more males into the nursing profession if it will benefit the patients, improve working conditions, and lead to increased pay for those of us who have already been nurses for quite some time.

Generally, the more men that enter a particular occupation, the more money it pays. For this observation alone, I welcome the men who become nurses.

Hello bonta,

Like you, I can see that nursing appears to be a profession predominantly occupied by women. I believe the culture is changing but it will be a while until employment equity reach parity. And despite many naysayers (and there will be, you just wait for it), it is desirable to have more men in the nursing profession. The points you raise are interesting, but I believe the true benefits will be to offer greater options for patients accommodations.

Well. Someone has to stay home and raise the kids and sweep out the barn, ribs.
