2014 LPN students

Published

This thread is for those who is about to start LPN program. It will be great if we keep each other posted on our excited journey, share the experience and maybe answer questions that others will have about the program.

So, i guess i start. On July 11 i will be starting 11 months long program at one of the local technical schools. My mandatory orientation is on June 10 where, according to letter that I received, we will be given our first homework (a month before the actual course starts!!!). I am 31 y.o married and have a 3 y.o son. I work as a CNA and I will continue working p.t during the program. I am very nervous because I haven't take any science classes since high school. English is my second language but that will not be a problem. I chose the LPN path because I love to work at the patience bedside, i can earn decent money and gain more hands on experience. I am planing to further my education after becoming LPN.

I am wishing everyone who is about to start or just started good luck! Lets do it together

Ahhhh congrats everyone on getting accepted! I don't start until January 2015. I can not WAIT!!! Anyone know any apps I can download or anything I can review or study now I'm such a nerd!!:) have a great night

Started buying school supplies this week. School doesn't start until September but I'm a school supply junkie and have been picking up things as I see them on sale.

I just had my orientation. I'm going to start doing the same thing!!

I'm a school supply junkie too. I have donated some old clothes and bought some from goodwill. Found alot of mall brand type jeans and shirts and didn't pay that much for them. I'm also a thrift store junkie. :whistling:

I always hear ppl say intense and I don't mean to ask a stupid question but what is intense? They give a lot of work? They work itself is hard? Like I just want to know

It's the work load mostly. The information itself isn't difficult it's the amount they give you plus all test questions are nclex style. So just a new way of thinking with the mountain of information thrown at you. Then add in clinicals and the paperwork on top of all the tests. Just be prepared for the ride and keep ur eye on the prize.

I am starting Tuesday, September 2, 2014. But I have already started to study math equations because we have a math exam on the first day and AP. I will start purchasing my supplies next month.

I'm from Sikeston :) been at TRCC for the last 2 semesters doing some basic nursing classes that I will apply later to the bridge program. Will start LPN in Cape Sept 29th.

Thats great! This will be my last week on the poplar bluff TRCC campus, as I start Kennett TRCC next week

Which school are you going to

Hey everyone. I just got accepted to the full time Skagit Valley College Practical Nursing program on Whidbey Island in Washington state. I start in late September this year. I've been a caregiver for people with developmental disabilities for four years. It's been a very rewarding experience but it was time to take my career to the next level. So awesome to think that by next year I'll be a real, live nurse! I'm turning 26 soon, no wife, no kids--nothing to worry about but nursing! Bring it on!

I start my LPN program at PRCC in South Mississippi August 18th! Can't wait to get back on the nursing journey. I am currently a CNA and have been for 2 1/2 years. I was previously in a BSN program here (long painful story) and had to leave due to personal reasons. I am so excited to start over! I have a wonderful fiance' and a beautiful 11 month old boy. A few tips I can say are: 1) Use your resources!! ANYTHING/ANYONE that can help you, take note of it. 2) DONT overcommit to extra curricular activities no matter how much you love them. I did that in my BSN program and it will just about run you ragged and its impossible to keep your grades up. 3) Take care of yourself. Stay healthy, go to the gym, destress as much as possible, never compromise your sleep. Don't let the stress catch up to you! Your brain/body cannot function the way you will need it to (top notch) on no sleep and tons of sugar/caffeine. 4) Ask questions! Don't be afraid. There are no stupid questions. You can ask nurses, teachers, clinical instructors, friends on this website, CNAs, etc. The more you learn, the better nurse you'll be. We can all do this together!! :)

Hi everyone,

New here and very excited (and nervous). I'll be starting a full-time 12 month LPN program on June 23rd in the Philadelphia area. Our orientation is scheduled for next week. I am a mom of twin 12 year old girls (and two grown boys). I will not be working while attending classes which is definitely a plus for me as it will allow me more time to focus on my studies. Previously I attended a local community college as a pre-nursing student, but when I had to go back to work there was no time for clinicals. Now that I'm not working and have a little more time, I can focus on school and getting licensed as an LPN, and then go for my RN degree. Thankfully I have all of the pre-reqs and most of my gen eds out of the way. Good luck to everyone here! I can't wait to read about everyone's experiences and share my own.[/quote

Hello AttractSuccess,

Would you mind telling me where you're taking your LPN program? I'm also from the Philadelphia area and I've been looking for a good program.

Three weeks into the program at my local CC. The first unit is the CNA class so we have been learning the basics of care and skills. Weekly exams, a class presentation and we started NA clinicals last week. Two more weeks to go before we can mock test for the NA state boards if we wish.
