Okay, our district nurses are seeking input on the following... we appreciate your responses.
1. What State are you in?
2. Do you have a nursing supervisor, or a non-nursing supervisor?
2a. If you do NOT have a nursing supervisor, where do you go for direction when questions such as legalities etc. arise?
3. Are you on a teachers contract?
4. What kind of eval system is used for your evaluations? (i.e. we use OASYS, which is what the teachers use)
5. Are you required to be certified by your state's department of education?

2. Do you have a nursing supervisor, or a non-nursing supervisor? - Non-nursing; I report to the principal.
2a. If you do NOT have a nursing supervisor, where do you go for direction when questions such as legalities etc. arise?
I am in a private school so I consult with other nurses under our umbrella, or other school nurses I have developed a relationship with.

No - but in NJ is is very hard to get a job without certification. You have to find a district who has a certified nurse overseeing the non-certified nurses and I think they are few and far between.

RN Director of Health Services, plus an RN Clinical Manager (in charge of all health services related education/training of staff both nursing and non-nursing.)
Day-to-day and school specific questions go to our school principals.

Yes, and previous years of nursing experience outside of the school system does not count in my district.

I'm actually not sure... my first two years were in a district that failed to evaluate me both years. My new district is new, but we use the same system the teachers do.

No. But we do receive some screening certifications from them.

We have an internal eval - mine is similar to teachers, but tweaked to fit my role before by my boss.
5. Are you required to be certified by your state's department of education?
I'm at a charter, so not required per my school. I am, however, certified by my state's department of education as they do state that all public school nurses are required and my charter is considered a public school.

This is a better answer- we follow a teachers' contract, but lower rate of pay.

I am in MS.
I have a non nursing supervisor (the asst. superintendent)
I work a teachers contract.
As far as evaluations go, I am supposed to be evaluated every year. I have never been formally evaluated.
It is an option here to be certified.
