Lost a student

A sweet athletic boy with straight As, a beautiful girlfriend, and a multitude of friends apparently took his own life. The official word is not in and it was announced that he passed away, but the details sound like suicide. It has been a long, somber day. Grief counselors have been here helping those kids whose parents did not pick them up after this devastating news.

I posted this last year, but I firmly believe that bringing it out in the light is the only way to change attitudes. NAMI has excellent resources, especially if you have an active chapter in your community. My SIL worked at the national HQ and still was a pain for me to get the materials, but it was worth it. I presented this to my 5-8 graders, well received.

In news this morning, this child's death has been ruled a homicide. His friends were certain it was and there was no official word from our small town sheriff for days.

Still a devastating loss, but easier to process.
