I have been guilty of this as well.......occasionally
Do most nurses have trouble looking "put together" at work?-hair out of their eyes, 'fuzzy' eyebrows-the list goes on.
I think I have co-workers that truly try to look their worst at work-rumpled scrubs, etc.
Do you see the same thing?
I don't get it either. I'm a man an work in surgery but still manage to shower and wear clean clothes to work daily. I keep my eyebrows and facial hair in check. I have been know to have little Asian people rub my feet and clean my toes up too. I work 55 hours a week on average an can still manage to be put together. My staff all come to work put together too. If you start you day with some pride in yourselves it usually creeps in to the rest of your day too.
The big umbrella hospital organization here doesn't hire nurses who don't appear 'put together', and they're my largest job resource, employing a few thousand nurses in the area. While I certainly don't think it's indicative of one's ability as a nurse, if having unwrinkled scrubs and taking a little more time with my appearance in the morning keeps me in a job in this economy, I'm all for it.
I don't go to any extremes - neat ponytail or bun, light makeup, no perfume. It's not difficult or time consuming.
That's EXACTLY it!
Shower, clean face, non fuzzy eyebrows (for the most part), deodorant, light body spray, clean short nails, clean hair, up and out of my face, uniform fresh out of the dryer (not crisp, but not wrinkled either), no makeup, but a bit of chapstick, and fresh breath.
My nursing professor always said if you get ready for work, and look in the mirror and say....damn I look good then you should wash, change, and try again.
I look pretty rough sometimes when I get called in at night or before I normally wake up. Otherwise I try to be clean shaven and have my hair orderly. I wear the hospital's scrubs so they're always clean and neat.
All I expect from others is that they not stink (either from BO or too much perfume) and not look like they just got off of a drinking binge. Beyond that who cares?
ya mean that metal thing with the handle that's upstairs in my craft room? i use it for smoothing quilting pieces and projects after they're finished. hmm... so that thing that plugs into the wall has another use???well, i'll be darned!
see, that's why i don't quilt. too much ironing.
i do sometimes kill two birds with one stone and steam my clothes while i shower. if that doesn't work, then there's the dryer.
The one thing that gets me is wrinkled scrubs. It takes 5 minutes to iron my uniform. I don't mean starch it with creases but.. make it look acceptable.
I always wear my hair up and neat in a ponytail. A little bit of make up, deodorant(I keep an extra in my bag) and a spritz or two of perfume(not strong scented) .
Oh I hate seeing undies with stripes/flowers etc.. through white scrub pants. Wear a color close to your skin tone.

Wrinkled scrubs make me crazy, and stray clumps of animal hair stuck to your clothes?!? Please!:) Once our uniforms stopped being made of spongy polyester that would sproing into shape, I actually starched my work clothes with spray starch and had a creased sleeve! It was just a weird idiosyncrasy I had, and just like wooh I don't overplay the natural beauty - the brilliant mind is intimidating enough. ;)

Not saying you have to look 'made up' but that maybe you put some thought into your appearance for the day would be a nice start-
