Hi, I've been trying to find the perfect ink pen, so I can buy several to stash in my locker and always have one. It seems ink pens tend to be hard to come by some days. I don't want to waste a bunch of money buying new pens all the time that I don't really like.
I do NOT want Gel ink. I prefer a medium point that writes dark and smoothly, not too big around and not real small.
Do you have a favorite pen???
i still haven't found my holy grail: a pen that will write on lab stickers without smearing...
...everything smears to a greater or lesser degree on the silly things, so much so that we all laugh about having our id numbers tattooed in reverse on our thumbs by the end of the shift. does anyone out there have a solution to this dilemma?
most of the time placing a piece of "scotch tape" over the likely-to-smear area, immediately *after* you have finished writing, will work very well. only a few inks that don't work - some gel inks, anything that looks visibly wet, or beads up when you write - those will just smear as you put the tape on.
i suppose a piece of tegaderm would work too, ... if you don't get it stuck to itself or everything else while you are trying to put it just over the label area and cut off the rest before it encases the whole tube...
obviously, the scotch tape is much, much cheaper.
oh, and the scotch tape trick works for anything you want to avoid having the ink wear off of with use... calculators, clipboards, whatever. put your name, or whatever on it and cover the area with tape.... truly permanent ink.
it also works on dry erase boards when you want to avoid having something accidently erased, if you nead a wider area covered, use packing tape. and bonus, when you remove it the dry-erase marker ink comes off with it (not really a bonus but kiddies get kick out of it).
ok, back to your regularly scheduled programming:yawn:
Love the Uniball Jetstream as well. My new friend is an Office Max brand. The TūL in fine. I write hard and it can handle it and it's fine so can fit in those damned Medicare forms with little boxes but leaves a line that's legible. It's now my first choice but that Jetstream in a close second.
my favorite is the BIC 4 Color Retractable Ballpoint Pen. We still do paper Charting - so I use the black for that. I use the red for signing off on chart checks and I use Blue/Green depending on my mood to write down on sheet all the meds I need to give for the day. :)
i lovvvvvvvvvvvvvvvve those!..i got that and..i picked up some of these babies along with it:
pink/green/blue/purple.. LOVEEEEEEE :)
I love the Paper Mate Design pens... they come in a 0.7 mm fine point, but still write fairly dark. I love these especially when I'm doing my initial shift assessment charting and filling in my checkmarks in all the small boxes for each of the body systems. They also come in plain steel silver for a unisex type design AND a really pretty floral or swirl design in black, pin, or silver. :-D
I lololololove this pen!

It write so smoothly, and goes forever!
Count me in the Pilot group. I love my Pilot pens. I prefer the V5 for charting, but I can't always find them. I always have V7s around, too.
I've used them since high school. I think I will start using the ponytail trick! Any suggestions on how to keep the husband from stealing them, though?

i'm right there with you. if i find out there is a pen or variation of a pen that i do not have already, it becomes my obsession to find it immediately! lol. i have a giant pencil-case in my locker full of pens, so i can always have a different pen if i get bored with what i'm carrying around, lol.
