My daughter began working in the xray department of Banner Thunderbird in September. She lives in Glendale. They are going to try to buy in that area as soon as their apartment lease is up. Their particular apartment complex is not the best, but she loves the hospital.

Hey! I use to live in N. Scottsdale and now I live on the Glendale/Phoenix border, close to Banner T-Bird. I had an apt. in Scottsdale, loved the location tons of stuff to do but a little snotty (sorry for anyone that lives in N. Scottsdale :) ) Lots of bars to go to great restaurants and there is always something going on. I now have a house, the area is ok I find that there is not much to do out here.
I work in N. Scottsdale still and the commute can be harsh -the 101 is a danger zone. There is an accident almost daily! PM traffic (going to glendale) starts around 4pm and doesn't lite up until 6:30 sometimes and in the AM traffic (towards Scottsdale) can get tight but it moves pretty well. Well thats my 2 cents!!!
Hope that helps!!!

I am new to the forum. But I do agree about Scottsdale being a bit snotty(sorry, don't mean that toward everyone there). I lived there for several years and didn't like it for other reasons too. Very crowded, too much traffic and stores charged more for items than the same stores in other parts of the city. North Glendale and North Peoria are just as nice, in my opinion, and good investment area if looking for a house.
Some people want the "status" of saying they live in Scottsdale. I guess they are willing to pay for it. Also, crime rate is higher in North Scottsdale than North Glendale and Peoria according to the statistics.
Anyway, hi to everyone on forum. Seems like a really active one.:)

I use to live in Glendale (2002) and loved it worked at Good SAM OR. Everything you need is close and the 101 will take right into Scottsdale. I would try to live up around Bell road or Arrow Head area so getting on the 101. Also I loved the way the roads take you from one side of town to the other using the grid. If you are a young parting person and enjoy 20mile drives to work then Scottsdale is for you.

The "Arrowhead" area is very nice and lots of resturaunts and some bars, nicer bars in my opinion. I have never even considered living in scottsdale, ever! I say stay in NW Glendale or the Arrowhead area. There are several luxury apt.buildings up that way that I think you will find very nice. By the way, I have a question if you dont mind.......As a traveling nurse they pay your housing? What can a Traveling nurse expect to make???
Sassiebaz, when I came to az as travel nurse I was paid several dollars an hour above what the staff nurses were making at the hospital(John c Lincoln) and apartment was free, paid by agency, and I only had to pay about $35 a month toward utilities. They kept renewing my contract for awhile so that was really great.

I live in Glendale and love it There are lots of new plases going in by the new arena, I would not live in Scotsdale and drive traffic is BAD
It depends on the area, but usualy around $30/hr, sometimes a little less, sometimes more. It's a great deal. Free housing, free health insurance. It's great to travel around and explore new places.

I agree that Glendale is close enough to lots of cool places, you definitely wont want to go to to bars there though. People drive like maniacs on the freeways there and traffic can be a bear but given your age and situation, I think my vote is still for Scottsdale....unless you are looking to save your money. Scottsdale is a great place to spend some dough and have a great time doing it. Scottsdale is known for being snotty though. And if you are looking to nab a rich man there....well lets just say that so is the rest of the cosmetic- surgery enhanced ladies there.
I used to work at Banner Thunderbird and I LOVED that hospital. Which area are you working?

If you decide to live in Scottsdale, I really liked the Mark Taylor Dakota apartments on Thompson Peak Parkway. They are on a desert preserve... Very beautiful. I lived there when I first moved here from San Francisco and thoroughly enjoyed it. They have a decent work-out room and also have two pools. If you are a serious lap swimmer, you can put a deposit down on a key to a great lap pool in an adjacent neighborhood. Finally, there are good biking, hiking, running, and walking trails.
They are also in very close proximity to the 101 so you can hope on the freeway to anywhere rapidly. I also liked that they were by an A.J.'s market where I could buy sushi...

I live in N. Scottsdale and LOVE it! I like the area, its very clean and pretty, and yes, very snottyas well. There are great places to go out and eat, but not sure if it is worth the commute to be honest. You will get very tired of the other drivers on the road; fyi Phoenix has the MOST dangerous roads in the US, lots of accidents, lots of uninsured drivers...so maybe get a place in Glendale, and if you decided to take another assignment here, then maybe see if it is worth moving then
