  1. SchiwartRn, How is the program going for you. I was looking into doing this program and was looking for feedback.. Also how much are the books. thanks mark
  2. Yes I work for a HCA hospital.. The union has done nothing but bad things for us. For example raises 2% max which no one can max out the 2%,Non union 4%. Also we have to be clocked out for over a hour before getting overtime non union get over time after shift ends. And also we get no 15min breaks due to the union did not write it in. Are union rep does nothing for us just wants the title union rep. I hope we soon get to vote them out..
  3. As a past CST/FA I use to close with MD then became a RN and can not close do to the Board of nursing. I have to become a RNFA to be able to close again. Which is funny I work at the same place and have to tell the doc's I can't help.
  4. Ok first question how many of you asked or applied for the position? I'm a male nurse working for almost 2years. I have been asked to be a charge nurse which I turned down. Why was I ask? I think for speaking up about issues, not afraid to question people and being fair with all the people I work with. Some of the nurse I work with male and female have 20+ years and have no idea whats going on day to day and ***** about work and wounder why they can't be charge nurse. On a upnote a fellow classmate from day one has been in charge of the hospitals med tech teaching all the nurse on the computer system and she is a female. I think it comes down to Marketing yourself for the position nothing is free..
  5. Yes my place has the same thing and try to write you up if you don't stock your room. I just take my sweet ass time pulling the case making sure everything is pulled on the list. Look at what they pay us RN's to SPD personal so take your time.
  6. I had my first latex case this past Friday. Pt needed a foley so I went and pulled latex free cath and separate bag with KY and other supplies. Later on my charge nurse pulled me to the side and ask me why I did what I did. I said the pt was latex allergy. She then told me you just open up a latex foley kit and pull the latex cath off the bag and replace with non latex cath. I had a hard time with this and would like some feed back.. Thanks
  7. Like tweety said St. Pete is way overpriced!! I live in Hernando county the market is not to high compared to what the hospitals are paying. My home here is $175k.built in the 90's 3300 sq. feet with 3 car garage pool pay 3k tax 3.5k Insurance. My friend has a home in St. Pete 145k 1500sq feet built in the 60's no garage, no pool pays 4.k tax I think he said 3k Insurance Also new grads start at $21. for the most part of FL. note he bought his in 2001 for the price, I bought mine in 2003 Hope this helps
  8. My biggest place to find lost laps is in the bottom of the trash. Having doc's look at me like I'm on drugs turning over trash cans to find them. 1. seen docs wipe prep site then throw the lap across the room into the trash. 2. doing two procedures when breaking down the draps things fall and people like to pitch things in the trash. 3. Also I have heard tech's say if they don't like the nurse then things will come up missing.
  9. I loved working for Banner in az left in 2002. I worked in the or at Good Sam and enjoyed going to work. The staff was great to work with had no problems. I left to come back to FL to let are parents be around the grandchildern
  10. I use to live in Glendale (2002) and loved it worked at Good SAM OR. Everything you need is close and the 101 will take right into Scottsdale. I would try to live up around Bell road or Arrow Head area so getting on the 101. Also I loved the way the roads take you from one side of town to the other using the grid. If you are a young parting person and enjoy 20mile drives to work then Scottsdale is for you.
  11. All depends on their education, training, certification and hospital policies. I have previous experience as an anesthesia tech and was involved in placing lines, cell saver, and balloon pumps in the OR. Since becoming an RN and working in the OR I am not required to keep my ACLS current, but did when I was a certified anesthesia tech. There are some colleges that offer a 4 year anesthesia technologist degree.
  12. Tampa General and St. Joseph's are good hospitals in tampa for peds also you have UCH. St. Jose and TGH pay 20-21hr. base after completing the 12 week programs. I have been told that TGH kicks ass for new grads being a teaching hospital. For you moving to New Tampa UCH would be just down the road.
  13. Were do you take the Excelsior test 1-6? Thanks
