  1. Hi Aloevera, I am a New Grad RN with over 3 years experience as an LVN mostly in SNF and Hospice. I am interested in Mental Health and you mentioned that your hospital is hiring. Can you give me more info. Like I mentioned I have now experience in Psych other than my clinical rotations. Thanks. Re: Is it hard to get into Psych nursing? totally agree with above post............ can only add that at my privately owned hospital we seem to be always hiring new nurses.......many come and go there are only a few of us that have stayed for a long time.........
  2. Yes, I am a new grad and just started working on a Med surg floor. During my years in school I didn't get much experience when it came to charting nursing notes. I am having a little problem knowing not only What to chart but also how to word my nursing notes. I understand that charting is different for every patient depending on their assessment and condition. Nevertheless, nurses develop theor own system of charting and I was wondering if there are any nurses out there that would share their own style of charting and/or are there any books out there that will help me with charting nurses notes on the flowsheets. (e.g. Received patient on bed. Patient swhows no apparent signs of distress and no complaints of pain at this time...) something to this nature.
  3. Jim, I did my LVN program at a community college here in Los Angeles. The whole program including tuition, uniforms and books must have cost me about $2000.00, which in my 3rd semester I applied for a scholarship and I received about $2000.00 free money. I understand you don't want to wait a long time, and I am 38 years old. But, I think going and paying between $20,000-$40,000 for a nursing program is ridiculous. I attended Los Angeles Trade Technical College here in Los Angeles and I just took my boards this past Wednesday. Once I pass boards I am going back to this same school and do my RN program. The prereq's to get into the RN program here is only ( Micro, A&P, Eng. 101), and an almost NO WAITING list. That is only 3 classes. LATTC has a passing ratio in the hi 80's and 90's. Also, as far as selecting the school with the best N-clex passing ratio, I would not worry about that. Once you graduate from the program it is strictly up to you how much effort you put into your studies. There are also hundreds of N-clex review courses out there including KAPLAN. I understand once again that time is of the essence, BUT please save your hard earned money for when and if, you decide to pursue your bachelors or even your masters, which in that case whatever hospital you are working for will help you financially and will most likely work with your schedule. AND, by going this route, either communito college or even a Cal State System, you can rest assure that almost all the credits will be transferable. Well Jim this is only my 2 cents. You can e-mail me anytime for any questions. Good luck in whatever you decide.
  4. Does anyone know if you can check your test results on-line for the LVN N-clex exam here in California? And how soon can you retake the PN-Nclex if you failed?
  5. Hi, Does Anyone Know What Is The Shortest Amount Of Time That Other Students Have Completed Their Ec Rn Program. I Will Be Graduating From My Lvn Program In About 1 Week And Plan On Taking The Ec Program To Become An Rn Right Away. I Plan On Doing The Program In The Least Amount Of Time. Is It Possible For Me To Take The Boards For Rn Let's Say By January Of 2006 Or Before? Am I Being Realistic, Or Would It Take Longer? Any Advice Would Be Greatly Appreciated. Thank You Carlos R.
  6. Lisa41Rn, you gave excellent advice. I really felt I had to commend you on that, could not put it better myself.
  7. By the way, what is PRN???
  8. Lawnurse, I was wondering whether the nurse (southern_rn_brat) that prescribed the wrong medication can lose her license for this? I am currently in my last semester of nursing school, passing meds has been one of my biggest worries that I have for when I graduate. You work so hard to get through nursing school, and it is so easy to lose your license. What is your take on this? Thanks. :uhoh21:
  9. Tridil 2000, I don't think it could be put any better than that! :yelclap: EXCELLENT way putting it into words. Hopefully, the original person who posted will get the point? Is he a nurse by the way???
  10. CAN A NURSE HERE IN THE U.S. WORK IN CANADA AS A NURSE? DO THEY HAVE TO RETAKE THE N-CLEX OR OTHER BOARDS?
  11. EXACTLY! YOU WERE GIVEN 2 CHANCES TO PASS THE BOARD BEFORE THEY PULL YOUR GN STATUS! WHY WOULD THEY NEED TO PULL THAT STATUS AFTER ONLY 1 FAIL? DON'T YOU HAVE 6 MONTHS FOR YOUR TEMPORARY LICENSE? ARE U REQUIRED TO TELL YOUR EMPLOYER WHEN U R TAKING YOUR STATE BOARD? AREN'T U ALLOWED TO TAKE THE STATE BOARD AT LEAST 3 TIMES WITHIN THE 6 MONTH PERIOD?
  12. Yes, Angie O'Plasty, could you explain a "blind passageway" in terms of nursing. Thanks
  13. Does anybody know if there is a mandatory waiting time before you can retake the n-clex pn if you fail the first time. Is there a required waiting period, in between testing??? If so how long is it? How many times can you take it without paying over again?
  14. Huladancer, my question is the same as someone else posted. HOW did you get into school, let alone into a nursing program, by being here illegal????????? Unless you lied and said you were an american citizen, I still can't undersatnd how you are enrolled in school. As far as taking the N-clex, I would think an immigration lawyer would be helpful. Good Luck, and congratulations on your school accomplishments!!!
