  1. What experience do you have with travel companies to Hawaii. I keep getting the run-around from my company and there is no waiting list, it's all first come, first serve. Has that been everyone's experience with Hawaii too? I've heard there are companies specifically for Hawaii, but a friend of mine got totally screwed by them. Any first hand experience would be appreciated!
  2. It depends on the area, but usualy around $30/hr, sometimes a little less, sometimes more. It's a great deal. Free housing, free health insurance. It's great to travel around and explore new places.
  3. I will be starting 1/22/07. I accepted a position at Banner Thunderbird on one of the tele units. Do you know anything about the Glendale area? Is it as fun as Scottsdale? I'm looking for a young croud (late 20's-30's) and a fun nightlife. Would the commute from Scottsdale be best do you think, or is Glendale fun too?
  4. I'm a traveler going to be working at Banner Thunderbird in Glendale, totally new to the area!! What are your thoughts on the Glendale area vs Scottsdale? i'm going to have my housing paid for, so money isn't really an issue, but I'll be working in Glendale, is living in Scottsdale worth the commute, or is Glendale a fun place to live too. To give you an idea of what I'm looking for, I'm traveling out there only knowing one other person and am looking to go out to bars occationally and meet people in their late 20's early 30's looking to have fun. Any input on a good place to live...Glendale or Scottsdale? Specific apartment complexes you like are apreciated too!
  5. A travel nurse needs to be VERY adaptable. Usually travelers are the first to be floated, they get very little orientation to the unit (max of 2 shifts in my experience), staff are usually not jumping to help them and are often given heavy assignments to take the load off the staff nurses (although this isn't always true). That being said, if you are the kind of person that needs a routine and gets flustered easy if the routine is broken, traveling is probably not for you. Secondly, a travel nurse needs to be outgoing and have no problems asking tons of questions and introducing yourself to staff. If you make friends easily, it'll be alright! If you have strong nursing skills and feel like you can jump into most any situation, it'll be great! Travel nursing is great for many reasons: you get to choose where you want to travel to, see the country and get paid to do it (and have your housing, health insurance etc. paid for too). I've managed to avoid mostly all the cold weather our country has to offer and am planning to continue to do that! You get to meet lots of people from all different places! If you are traveling alone, it can be kind of lonely at times until you make friends, so you should be ok with ttaking adventures in teh city alone and spending time alone frequently. Your nursing skills will be strengthened so much by the necesity to adapt and jump into any situation and you'll likely learn a lot on the different kinds of units you work on. I think it's a great oportunity, if this doesn't scare you..go for it!
  6. Well, San Diego pays the least amount in Cali...but it's because everyone wants to be in SD! If you go there, I recomend Scripps Green..they treat thier staff and travelers well (I've heard most Scripps do), San Francisco pays well. I work at UCSF as a traveler and it's probably the best, but you get floated a lot..that's all I know about cali
  7. I am traveling to Phoenix. My background is telemetry/tele step down. I'm wondering if anyone has any recomendations for the hospitals in the area...I'm looking at St. Joseph's, John C. Lincoln, BAnner Baywood, Banner Baywood heart hosp, Banner Good Sam, Scottsdale Osborn, Banner Thunderbird...anyone know anything about the hospital or the area the hospitals are in (i.e. is it safe?). I'm also looking for a good place to stay where other travelers in their 20's-30's would be living...possibly in Scottsdale. Any recomendations??
