hi everyone! i'm holli. i took boards on june 13th and passed with 75 questions. i am starting work on july 18th at the only hospital i ever wanted to work for. it is a great pediatric facility! i will be on the (post-op) surgical floor, and we also have all of the endocrine kids. also, they just added an epilepsy monitoring unit, for overnight monitoring and for the brain mapping they are doing. i expressed an interest in that, so they will cross-train me in that unit as well. i can't wait to get started!
so, tell me about you...

Hi All,
I graduated in May, took boards in June, passed, and have been working for the past 7 weeks on our ACU unit. I have hit the ground running since I started, and some days are better than others. I just worked my first week of nights,and I do have to say that I think I like them! Still really busy but not the same level of stress to do what everyone wants. (IE OR prep, Doc orders, Care manager stuff, etc.) I actually have to time to get to know my patients more at night than the day shift. I have been asked to do overtime a bunch already, but haven't because I was told to take my full twelve weeks and work just the three shifts a week, to prevent burnout, among other things. Nursing is not what I thought it would be, but it is soo much more too! I still do stupid new nurse stuff, like forgetting to close the roller clamp on a line when I switch bags of fluids, but those things keep me humble too! Good luck with all your new jobs, and thanks to everyone who writes on this site to help us all remember that we are only human.:)
Hello, I found this site and thought it was really great!!! I passed boards in March 2007 and took me until May 2007 to find a job. I live in an area where they want bilingual as a priority so finding a job even in a feild with so much need was really hard. I work for a non profit organization with Develomentally challenged adults. I love the job. Only thing that is hard is I am the only nurse, and I don't have the advantage of having the guidance of an experienced nurse. This position is part-time and I'm going for orientation tomorrow for part-time flu clinic work where I hope to get some hand on experience.:monkeydance:
Hi everyone! My name is Amy, I finished nursing school in June and took my NCLEX last Thursday and passed with 75 questions. Yeah!!!!!!!!
:balloons::balloons:
I start work in September at a children's hospital as a NICU nurse. I'm very excited about starting, nervous but excited! I did my preceptorship in a level three NICU and will be working in a level four so I know there will be a great many challenges!
I'm also a mommy of one 22 month old boy, he is my love and life. I have been a stay at home mom to him since he was born so that makes returning to work somewhat sad even though I am excited to start my new career also!
Hope to learn more about everyone here. :):)
Hi,
I'm a new RN (received my license about a month ago) working on a surgical unit in a 228-bed hospital. My last night on orientation will be Wednesday and then I'll be on my own. I'm still struggling to adjust to it all-- at this point I am not sure if it was worth it. Being a nurse seems unbelievably demanding and exhausting, and I'm really not sure how long I will last on this unit. I also have four kids under ten at home. Anyway, AllNurses is a great source of comfort and information for me!!

Hi all!
I'm Cindi, I graduated in February, took boards in April, passed with 76 questions, YAY! I am currently working in a small Iowa hospital. Nursing is wonderful, rewarding, and nothing like clinicals.LOL
I've worked as a nurse for 4 months, and I'm still finding ways to tweak my day! :)
Hey All! My name is Rita, I graduated in May, passed boards on July 3rd. I work 7p to 7a in an 8 bed ICU in a smaller hospital. Hey all, my name is Desiree, I live in Boston and I graduated from an ADN program in June, took the boards July 17th 2007, passed with 75 questions. :balloons:Started working as an RN in a community health center in August. It's been 3 weeks and it's challenging. Had to relearn how to give shots with what needle and how much etc. how to swab a throat for strep, doing tons of pregnancy tests for young girls....that's sad. Have to do tons of teaching for asthma control, std control, vaccinations. Then we have nurse visits....everything is computerized so learning that....we are connected to a Big hospital which is good as I may transisition there after a year. I am married with one daughter.
all the best to all of us out there in our first year.....
allnurses is the best site, got me through nursing school
