Let's introduce ourselves...

hi everyone! i'm holli. i took boards on june 13th and passed with 75 questions. i am starting work on july 18th at the only hospital i ever wanted to work for. it is a great pediatric facility! i will be on the (post-op) surgical floor, and we also have all of the endocrine kids. also, they just added an epilepsy monitoring unit, for overnight monitoring and for the brain mapping they are doing. i expressed an interest in that, so they will cross-train me in that unit as well. i can't wait to get started!

so, tell me about you...

holli, rn

Hiya. I'm Aaron. I took boards on 7/16/07 and passed with 75 questions. I'm currently looking to move back home to TX with my wife. I'd like to get a job in a surgical unit or anything thats more "hands on" rather than a "pass meds all day long" floor.

Hi Jenny!!!

I recently started on a pediatric cardiac unit...so far a lot of classroom stuff, but like you said it is probably for the best! I am so nervous to begin on the floor (this week), but it is nice to have a link to people in the same boat. I take the NCLEX at the end of August so hopefully after it is over my stress will be somewhat alleviated! Good luck!

Hi Holly and faith123,

I wish you both luck on the NCLEX. If you want any advice, I would say to take a review course such as Kaplan or Medspub as well as purchasing a content and review book. Of course everyone studies differently, but if you want an idea of how I studied here it is:

I bought the Saunders content review book and reviewed 3-5 chapters a day for about 5 weeks. I also kept a tally of how many questions I had done every week (I've heard 3-5,000 is recommended before taking the NCLEX, although I ended up doing over 6,000). I also went over the Medspub review book (which covered medications) the last week before taking the NCLEX.

Don't focus too much on content once you've reviewed it- it's the questions that you want to practice since all the questions on the NCLEX will be different than any review questions you've had before. Review medications!!!! It is very important to know your meds as well as nutrition questions (what foods contain potassium, calcium, etc.)

I really think you both will do great though. All you have to do is study hard, do those questions, and you're going to pass. You can do it!!!!! Good luck :)

Specializes in IMC and Med-Tele.

Hey all,

I'm Jay. Been working in healthcare for 4 years as a CNA on an IMC floor. Graduated nursing school in May 2007. Passed NCLEX 7/11/07. Currently going to new grad orientation for a hospital in town for a Med-Tele floor. I want to move up in departments (hopefully ICU) and it's a pleasure to see a great gathering of new and "experienced" nurses all for the advancement of the profession.

Hi Jay, I'm Jenny. I too graduated in May and I am starting on a cardiac (tele) floor. I also would like to work my way up to ICU (cardiac or trauma). I'm still pretty new to allnurses.com, but so far I've enjoyed surfing through it. I find it helpful as a new nurse, and I hope it is for you too. Welcome.

Thanks Jenny,

My wife actually was the person who introduced this site to me. It's an endless body of knowledge. I'm grateful for a site like this.

Specializes in ER/ medical telemetry.

hello i am a new rn

started in er 6 weeks ago

worked there for a couple years before

i am loving it as well as scared of it

but one thing is for certain

it sure feels like i can make a difference

in the role of an rn.

i know the 1st year will be the hardest,

i passed my boards june 14th

the next day i was the real mc coy passing narcs, doing ng's iv's,

and assessments as well as triage.

that beats the med surg unit

that all the instructors insist all new grads work

forget that...

i'm having too much fun...

i took the boards june 16th and passed with 75 questions. i'm in limbo about work. we are moving out of state when our house sells, and it's been listed 2 months. i hate to start some where, then quit, but at the same time i don't want to sit here and not do anything indefinately. what would you do? i love l&d, pp. congratulations to all you new rn's!

HELLO Im Trish, Graduated LPN School June 25th, waiting to take NCLEX the end of August. This site is awesome I've been reading alot of good tips for NCLEX and I am sure I will use some of them. Thanks and hope to meet some of you.

may i just say that,

i just love lpn's.

in our er we do not have lpn's.

it seems to just be, an rn world there.

i have worked with many lpn's ,over the years, and they are nurses that will always help a rn;

where another rn will cover herself/himself, and tend to blame the other rn if a problem were to arise.

i'm not saying all rn's do this as a rule, but i have seen it happen over the years.

lpn's are awsome.

i do tell all lpn's that i know that if they have a chance to go onward to rn, there is more opportunity for advancement.

it is also amazing of how many doors will begin to open up...

hello im trish, graduated lpn school june 25th, waiting to take nclex the end of august. this site is awesome i've been reading alot of good tips for nclex and i am sure i will use some of them. thanks and hope to meet some of you.

Hi, I'm Sarah and I graduated April 28th. I passed my boards June 26th with about 120 questions (weird number, I know). I have been working on a pulmonary/internal medicine floor since the middle of May and recently came off of orientation. Still nerve-wracking! I am enjoying my job although I don't know if this is where I want to end up long-term...Btw, I am loving this website. It helps me keep my sanity at times.

I graduated in June and started a new job in the end of July. I am on an adult post surgical unit. It's very fast paced. My preceptors have been having me jump in with both feet since the first day (only really had 4 clinical days so far, 2 weeks of orientation and classroom time). Yesterday I pulled PICC line for the first time, and we weren't even allowed to do anything with PICC lines in nursing school.

I took my boards just this thursday (the 9th) and found out yesterday morning I passed. whoo hoo. Now I can concentrate on really learning how to be a nurse!

Piki,

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!

It sure is great isn't it? I graduated in May took test in June and am in the ER. It has been challenging to say the least, but so far I am doing well according to all my peers. Some feel I'm just about ready to be cut loose.
