Agreed! I saw interviews where he said he's only been sleeping 3-4 hours a night since March =( At least our new president acknowledges that covid is real and is already trying to start cleaning up the mess. To be honest he wasn't my first choice, but so far I'm impressed! I love how he involved women of color in his inauguration. With mr trump I was impressed when he would go a day without outwardly expressing hate and encouraging people to commit hate crimes... low bar.
I am definitely breathing a sigh of relief. I know we still have a long way to go in terms of covid, but at least something is being done. I breathe a little easier that the black woman I'm married to and her family won't be attacked for no reason. I know racism and police brutality will still be huge problems, but at least our new president acknowledges that these issues exist and doesn't support the perpetrators. Thanks for the hopeful post ?
President G.W. Bush already honored Dr. Fauci with the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2006, Dr.Ben Carson received this honor at the same ceremony, Don't know if one can receive a second medal, but he would be the one to acknowledge in 2021,
President Bush Honors Presidential Medal of Freedom Recipients
QuoteThree decades ago, a mysterious and terrifying plague began to take the lives of people across the world. Before this malady even had a name, it had a fierce opponent in Dr. Anthony Fauci. As the Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases for more than 23 years, Tony Fauci has led the fight against HIV and AIDS. He was also a leading architect and champion of the Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief, which over the past five years has reached millions of people -- preventing HIV infections in infants and easing suffering and bringing dying communities back to life.
The man who would lead the fight against this dreaded disease came from an Italian American family in Brooklyn. Even as a boy, Tony was distinguished by his courage. In a neighborhood full of Brooklyn Dodgers fans -- (laughter) -- he rooted for the Yankees. (Laughter.) Tony earned a full scholarship to Regis High School, a Jesuit school in Manhattan. And he still quotes what he learned from Jesuit teaching: "Precision of thought, economy of expression." And now you know why he never ran for public office. (Laughter.)
Those who know Tony do admit one flaw: sometimes he forgets to stop working. He regularly puts in 80-hour weeks. And from time to time, he's even found notes on his windshield left by coworkers that say things like, "Go home. You're making me feel guilty." (Laughter.) A friend once commented that Tony was so obsessed with work that his wife must be a pretty patient woman. The truth of the matter is, she's very busy herself. Christine Grady is a renowned bioethicist. And together they raised three talented daughters: Jennifer, Meghan, and Allison. And I hope each of you know that for all Tony has accomplished, he considers you to be one of his -- not one of his -- his most important achievement. Your love and support have strengthened him as he works to save lives across the world.
For his determined and aggressive efforts to help others live longer and healthier lives, I'm proud to award the Presidential Medal of Freedom to Dr. Anthony S. Fauci.
So good to see him smiling and joking in numerous cable interviews today. Can his wife please have him back now?
Awards can be awarded again. I never even thought to know what Dr Fauci's first name was (Anthony). I still want to nominate him for the Nobel Prize!
And much kudos to Pres Biden for his diversified selection of key advisors & support staff. But he has such a full plate in front of him that I pray he takes it slow enough to remain healthy & safe. It took 4 yrs for this country to be where it is now.
Silly thought I've had before - wonder if any President ever wakes up and just says "I'll think I'll sleep late and do nothing today"????? I'm sure they an for days off or vacation/personal time. But that would have to be scheduled. I'm just thinking of something spontaneous.

Saw a little guy on TV the other day. He was happily talking about folk receiving "Dr Fauci's Ouchies" vaccines. Made me smile!
The healing will really begin if Biden can pass a huge stimulus bill to stimulate the economy. Hope he doesn't make Obama's mistakes and suck up to the republicans. He needs to do what winners do. Stick it to them and push his policies through with or without their help.
In two years if he hasn't solved the problems, he will own them. Give McConnell a taste of his own medicine. Stack the Supreme Court and pass legislation making gerrymandering and Citizens United obsolete. Without either, republicans will have to change their racist, lying, thieving ways.
Biden has the opportunity to forever change this country for the better.

That's you wanting him to pass your agenda without regard to anyone else and that's not a healing attitude. That type of governance got Trump in who undid all what Obama did, and got Biden in to undo what Trump did, and will get in a Republican and undo what Biden did and so on.
I don't like that attitude that if you cooperate with the other side you're done for. This happened to our Republican governor that took Obama's stimulus money.
I think him inviting the Republicans that made a counter offer to this stimulus package and tossing around ideas is a good start towards healing. Not ramming down his agenda without regard.
He'd be wise to remember that he didn't win by a landslide. He barely won and doesn't really have a mandate.
In my opinion.

He won by over 6 million votes, more than anyone in history.
Not interested in bipartisan anything. Repubs set the precedent, so they should have to live with it. There's a pandemic, people out of work, recession looming, bills to be paid and an international crisis completely brought on by Trump alone!
74 million voted for Trump and you want to go easy on them? They chose probably the worst person in America to vote for and you want bipartisanship? Biden is a decent, not spectacular public servant and you would choose the criminal to support? A rapist, prolific liar who possibly is the candidate for the worst president in America's history and you suggest diplomacy?
I wouldn't even offer a single platitude much less meet or consult with them. Lie down with dogs, you get the picture.
IMO.

I allow you your opinion. But that still is "let the healing begin for me only". But I get it.
The Biden Administration also needs to be mindful of those in own party and understand the "it's my way or the highway" might not be the best approach to "let the healing begin".

They both received the most votes of anyone in history. You can't look at a 6 million vote win as a landslide and a mandate. It's a win by 3% of the total 161 million votes. Impressive and an indisputable victory for sure and a bit more than Trump won by percentage wise in 2016 but not as much as Obama.
Anyway, he's the winner. I do have hope that we can heal from the Trump Administration and his extremist followers, but that's really going to be dependent on what the Republicans do. If they stand up and regroup or if they continue the path they are on. I already do feel better that Trump did't win again and for now that's healing enough.
I have no hope that the near 50/50 devision in ideals and how to get things done in this country is going to be fixed anytime soon. But that's politics.
I dunno...democrats should just legislate their agenda, regardless of the GOP. The GOP have talked about bipartisan unity for years now while engaging in no bipartisan unity. They obstructed attempts at unity for the duration of the Obama administration and passed the tax giveaway without even pretending to seek bipartisan unity.
Are there different rules for governing for conservatives versus liberals? We have zero additional need for unity than we needed a month ago, a year ago or a few presidents ago. There are plenty of things to unite us...covid for instance.
We don't need unity with people who can't discern truth from lies and who would break our republic to please a despot...we need relief and remedy.

Then Democrats would be hypocrites since that's what they campaigned on. I'm not saying we need unity with the radical QAnon right and those politicians, or that we can even achieve unity with reasonable republicans on how to get things done. But to campaign on a platform of reaching across the aisle and then say "never mind, we we're going to shove our agenda down your throat and not talk to you" doesn't make for the idea of "let the healing begin". The Democrats have the advantage of both houses and Republican no this and we can throw them under the bus, or we can do like Biden did and have a meeting and listen.
I get it though, I'm angry to at the destruction of Democracy lead by Trump and his enablers and I'm not saying pander to them. I'm just saying let's not be hypocrites and truly be the people that are interesting in "let the healing begin".
Pipe dream I know.

I believe that since the Biden inauguration, much of the world is breathing a small sigh of relief. I know I am. Yes, there are STILL the dissenters and non-believers and rebels, but for the most part, I think we are safer and headed for better times.
Was watching Dr Fauci on a TV news clip this morning. The man looks 10 years younger!! Like the wt of the nation and world has been shifted off his shoulders.
I can barely imagine the overwhelming psychological and emotional distress that man must have endured since the beginning of this pandemic and the disconnect with DJT. DJT. Such a professional and personal conflict. Yet he always remained the expert professional he is.
In past history, he'd have been beheaded by King Henry VIII or executed by Hitler for his dire cautionary warnings that were so contrary to DJT's.
JMHO, but the man deserves the Nobel Peace Prize for Health and this nation's highest civilian medals, the Presidential Medal of Freedom or Congressional Gold Medal.
