Lehman College 2018 Fall Generic BSN/ABSN applicants!

Nursing Students School Programs

Hello, everyone applying to Lehman's BSN/ABSN programs for Fall 2018!

I am currently working on my application and will very soon take HESI. I know application period does not start until January 1, but I thought I would create a thread so we could get in touch and support each other on the way to (keeping fingers crossed!) being accepted!

Congrats on those who got in. I won't be able to make it to orientation, but I want to speak about what you'll go through. The first day is going to be from 9-5. They'll go over the schedule and talk about other things. The important things to note are where your clinical site is, dosage calculation, and castlebranch. If you have Harlem hospital, they require a 15 panel drug test. I think castlebranch does that. It's the most stringent rules. However, for most other clinical sites, they only require the 10 panel drug test. With castlebranch, they also do background checking. Make sure to get the code. I think it's UV33, but they might change it. Just make sure to be clean because you might have to do a drug test every semester for the clinical sites. You don't have to do a background check as often. I think it's once a year, so it applies more so to the juniors. Also, make sure to get in your health clearance forms done before the start of school. As for the outfits, my classmate doesn't mind giving hers away. I think she's a size medium. It can be pricey, especially when you only buy one and buy that shipping fee. Get a buddy and buy 2. I wear a size large, but usually wear medium shirts. I recommend getting a size above your shirt size. The top is like 47, and you can get the pants anywhere for like 15-20. I would recommend having pockets for your phone and wallet. I'm selling both the top and bottom for 50 for the one I never wore. If you're meticulous and wash your scrubs and dry it the same day, you won't need 2. However, for the generics and accelerated in the spring, we do 2 days of clinicals.

Anyway, dosage calculations aren't bad. They should've given you an orientation packet and in the last few pages should be the dosage calc examples. I doubt they're going to do micro and macro drip. The only one you need to know is 60 gtts/ml or 60 drops/ml. Just work on your cross multiplying and make sure to have a calculator handy. You'll do fine if you look at that material and make sure you have a basic understanding. On the 2nd day, you'll do dosage calculations and get to go home after you're done. I haven't gotten permission to attend orientation, so I'll wait outside to talk to you guys if you want. I would definitely like to see the accelerated group because I have more knowledge about it.

Also, after your 2nd day, I'd recommend getting your pin since you're on campus anyway. The guy at the bookstore will probably say they haven't gotten it yet, so it'll take a week or two to get.

As for books, if you can read PDFs, I'm sure you can find PDFs of the books. It saves money, but if you have to read the books, just rent them. Anyway, I'm going to most likely see you guys next Tuesday at around 10 am after your dosage exam. The 20 question quiz shouldn't take more than an hour.

Thanks for all of the info!

To confirm, are you saying that the dosage exam is the only thing we will be doing on the second day of orientation?

were doing the mask tet that day too

When I was in the nursing department today, I heard that the fit test will be done Monday instead of Tuesday. The person said we will get an e-mail with the change.

Hmm.. wow I'm sorry they are giving you a hard time too! I hope you get it figured out. It makes the most sense to go to their office like you did. I don't live in the area and they are not responsive at all.

I went to the office and had to fill out a form for readmittance and pay a $20 fee. I was told they'd try to give me access by end of day today. I tried to enroll just now and it says I still don't have access. I guess I'll wait and see what happens Friday.

They said it was because I was accepted for the spring, but didn't take any spring courses there. It is also so hard to get in touch with admissions...I hope that is just a summer thing.

Prior to submitting my nursing app, they told me to avoid enrollment issues I had to go readmit for the Fall semester at the end of April because I had not taken any classes in the Spring

Thank you!! So we ARE allowed to use calculators? We have to bring our own?

I logged onto CUNY first and on my to-do-list I see "SPARC Online training" due July 22. Apparently if we do not complete it, it will affect registration. Anyone else see the same thing on their account?

It's training to educate students on sexual misconduct

I had to do this training as I was new student this spring semester. I think everyone new to Lehman has to do that training, which, I think, is a waste of time.

Oh ok, I see. I have taken classes at Lehman before but have not been asked to complete this training until now

a 20$ fee?! I didn't have to do that...thats strange. I am still having issues and I can't get in touch with anyone. They reactivated my account but now when I try to enroll for the course it is saying I dont have the proper prerequisites, which obviously we all do since we are 2nd degree.

Let me know if you are able to enroll
