Lehman College 2018 Fall Generic BSN/ABSN applicants!

Published

Hello, everyone applying to Lehman's BSN/ABSN programs for Fall 2018!

I am currently working on my application and will very soon take HESI. I know application period does not start until January 1, but I thought I would create a thread so we could get in touch and support each other on the way to (keeping fingers crossed!) being accepted!

It sounds like people are confused. When she said she excluded extra credit she clarified that she meant EXAM extra credit assignments that are on pearson. They are still included as extra credit on exams and the extra credit points you got from completing homework assignments without using hints it counted as extra credit towards your homework grade.

I wasn't confused. I was talking about the exam extra credit in my paragraph.

Yeah but then someone complained about getting two extra credit points on their class grade which sounded pretty outrageous so I tried to give him/her the benefit of the doubt and assumed they were confused instead.

Hi everyone! Long time no speak. Congrats on finishing microbio. That class was hell. I really wanted to like the professor but I've felt iffy about her ever since she lowered pretty much everyone's exam grade because of her own mistake. I've never had a teacher punish students because of their own mistake.

Anyway, I assumed the extra credit from the homework was already included in our homework score. The score we see on mastering includes all of the extra credit.

As for The College of New Rochelle, I'm thinking about applying there especially after finishing this class. As FutureNurseInfo said, the price tag scares me. I believe I would need to take a few more classes to be qualified for their program.

Time is dragging... It will be three or more weeks before we know if we are in...

Hi again guys.

Let me correct myself on the last post. There are 3 accelerated clinical groups. I'm not too sure of the number for the generic program. Anyway, we all had classes from Monday-Wednesday and either clinical on Thursday or Friday. You don't have a choice in the classes you choose. It sucks, but hopefully you guys get along with each other because you should go into it with good intentions. Help each other out. Even a simple mnemonic or picture explaining a concept is helpful for the unspoken shy person. Anyway I digress.

I hope everyone got above an 800 on the critical thinking portion and above a 75 on each of the other 3 sections (A&P, Math, English) for the HESI A2 exam. If you have that and at least a 3.5, you have a great shot at getting in. They won't accept you if you have lower scores than the 800 on the CT or 75 on any other portion of the HESI A2. I got rejected my first time because of it.

The cutoff usually is as follows. Generic Program: 3.5 and Accelerated Program: 3.7. If you have above a 3.5, you can relax about getting into the generic program. I'm positive you'll get an acceptance letter.

Anyway, here's some advice I have. Have fun and do all the things you want to do before you get accepted. Party with friends, go on vacation, take your significant other on dates, etc. When you get that acceptance letter in June, you have about a month before orientation. They'll tell you to do a drug test and annual physical. On the second day, you'll take a dosage calculation exam. It's not too bad, and they'll give you review material so you can look at that and pass.

For the fall, the generic and accelerated program take the same courses. 300, 301, 330, and 344. A word of advice. Don't talk back to professors. I know from experience. You don't want your papers to suddenly take a dive and get low grades because you had a need to correct a professor. Even if they lie, keep it to yourself. I regret not doing it after the program was over.

Before I mention the classes, I would recommend Saunders 7th or 8th Edition (if they make one). Get the questions as well. It's a great resource for exams and Hesi's. Get the HESI Comprehensive book. It wasn't used too much for the fall or winter, but I used it a lot for the spring.

300: Nursing as a Human Science. Hmm, a few papers. It's a lot of busy work and you learn about phenomenology. You'll have either one of two professors, depending if you're generic or accelerated.

301: Fundamentals. Hopefully you guys have a great professor. My experience with this class might be different than yours, and I honestly wish you don't have the experience I had. You will have to do some crappy thing called ShadowHealth. It's a bunch of busy work. You will come to hate Tina Jones in due time. You will have a 10% Hesi and a 35% (I believe) final Hesi. These questions come out of nowhere, so look everywhere for resources.

330: Pharmacology. I liked this class a lot. Whatever the professor says in great detail, make sure to study that. She will test you on it. I guarantee that. Print out the slides, make notes. You'll do great. However, they will do a HESI for this class. The accelerated didn't. We got lucky. Spring '18 was the first time they administered a pharm HESI. It is ridiculous. A lot of people failed. I hope you guys don't have to take that. The final is written by the professor. Just review antibotics in great detail and some info from the first 3 exams, and you're good for the final.

344: Pathophysiology. I wasn't a fan of this class. I think you'll have someone different because there was some controversy of people cheating, which is probably untrue. If you do have the tall lady with glasses who keeps saying, "You know this right?" then her first exams are a joke. In my experience, they were akin to anatomy exams. Who knows what professor will teach that course.

The generics get a break in the winter and summer, but the accelerated do the winter and summer session. I'll post more later (possibly in August when I'm finally done with the program). Sorry this has been a jumbled mess, but I hope you guys get something from this. If you guys have any questions, you can always email me. It's my username @ gmail. I will try to get permission to come to orientation. I know there will be a mentor for the generic group. We didn't have one for the accelerated group, so I'm trying to get a few of us to come to talk to them.

Hey, thanks for the run down!!! I am as excited as I am terrified. I have applied to both, but I think generic would be a better option. The thing is, I wonder how much can you possibly learn from an accelerated route? Do you feel like you retain enough info to be truly successful in school and, of course, upon graduation?

Final grades for spring have yet to post.

Does anyone know how long the wait usually is after rosters are due?

The suspense is killing me.

Well, I know that all the grades should have been posted to BB by now. However, it may take longer for the grades to reflect on CUNYfirst. I know, though, the professors have until June 1 to post.

I've seen my blackboard grades but for one of my classes they differ greatly from the calculations I've made based on my assignment grades and percentages on the syllabus. I've been biting my nails waiting to see whether my final grade on CUNYfirst reflects the grades I see on blackboard or grades I calculated myself.

I believe grades are posted automatically once entered into cunyfirst. My orgo professor posted our exam and homework grades on BB. 30 minutes later, he sent out an email saying he just posted our grades on CF. I checked and they were there. According to Lehman's calendar, all grades are due by/on the 30th. I doubt we'll get any today since it's a holiday.

I'm surprised our micro professor hasn't posted our letter grades yet. It's been days since she last posted an update.

Ah so grades and grade rosters are different?

The spring calendar says grade rosters were due yesterday but I didn't realize that was different than grades. Thanks, I'll give it a few more days before I go back to compulsively checking my grade.

Really? The one I looked at says the 30th*. I made a typo in my previous post. Here it is if you want to look at it. I believe that grade rosters are what the professors use to submit our grades. We just receive our grades. They're pretty much the same thing though.
