For those of you who have recognized your employer can terminate you for not taking the COVID vaccine and have decided on or are considering employment elsewhere please share your experiences here. How do you feel about having to make that choice?
The purpose of this thread is not to condemn those making this decision or debate whether they should vaccinate or not.

I won't get this vaccine, been working covid units from the start.
It is unfortunate that our regulatory bodies have suffered from corporate capture & revolving door.
I am quitting, have worked 4-5 12s a week for a few years, time for a vaca! I will sit this out and watch what happens.
I hope a few years down the road that this new type of vaccine is truly safe. Good luck, because you all are now part of the long term trial.
As are you.
Good luck.

That's probably a good move. I've been out since January. It's been nice. Don't know if I'll have to sit out again but, I'm prepared for it if I do. Cheers.
I don't get why people have to be such jerks. I think people have to make decisions that they feel that is right for themselves. If I didn't need health insurance, I would be sitting out of healthcare for awhile.. Healthcare was a disaster prior to Covid. Healthcare places were cutting beds and staffing ratios tight prior to Covid. Covid has made these issues more obvious, but you will never hear that discussed in the media.
I have seen patients stuck in the hospital for months due to a lack of nursing homes, psych beds, and legal issues.. Talk about a waste of $$ and healthcare resources.

Welcome to AN. Everyone gets to choose for themselves whether to be vaccinated but not all choices are based in sound science and good judgment. We see evidence of people making poorly informed health choices all the time in our line of work. Most of the time those poor choices don't have such a potential for negative outcomes or harm to other people as remaining unvaccinated during a pandemic does.
Would you agree?

You realize this is a global pandemic.. To prevent mutations you would literally have to vaccinate 70 to 80 percent of the world's population. Umm.. good luck with that. The US could achieve a high vaccination rate, but if other countries don't follow suit then this will continue to mutate.
It appears this is behaving much like influenza. I have read influenza vaccines are like only between 30 to 40 percent effective each season....so not that great..

Correct. According to this story, the number is 78%.
They aren't sure of the vaccination rate required to achieve herd immunity.. Measles is 95 percent worldwide to achieve herd immunity.
I hate to be a Debbie Downer, but I think majority of the population thinks I get the Covid vaccine and magically life will go back to normal. Like.. I pointed out before this is a Global Pandemic... Not a US pandemic.. You need mass vaccination on a Global scale, which I'm highly doubtful will occur. I agree as of right the vaccine works, but Covid will continue to mutate and scientists will be playing catch up. So... I am I really excited about taking a vaccine that has no long term testing and won't be that effective in the long run. Covid will continue to mutate and be a long term issue unfortunately.
I think the media would rather have you point the fingers and argue with on another. Even the WHO has pointed out, the US should'nt be giving boosters when the rest of the world hasn't received them.

Herd immunity will not occur and there will be no return to "normal" in the USA if 30-40% of the population persist in refusing to participate in the mitigation.
I'm sorry that you don't see the value in trying to reduce the suffering and death that accompanies a pandemic by vaccinating and encouraging others to vaccinate.

The unvaccinated are driving hospitalization and death numbers from the virus.
And this is one of the biggest problems I have with the anti-vaccination side of the debate. over 90% (in some states in excess of 97%) of hospitalized patients with COVID were NOT vaccinated. They are taking up time and resources that could be used for people like my acquaintance who could not get his broken femur surgically repaired. No beds in the STATE. And I said before, we are all one terrible accident from needing the ED or ICU. How would you feel if that patient needing the bed were you or someone dear to you---- but can't get ? I know if it were my loved one facing death or disability that is preventable, I would be fuming.
I have read it will take 80% of people vaccinated before we can claim herd immunity. That or we better hope and pray active infection imparts similar immunity. Otherwise we shall never achieve it.

Would you say, that 90% of beds where patients have COVID who are UN-vaccinated is a similar waste or health care resources and money?

Where did you see this from the WHO? I am not being a jerk. I am curious as I have not heard this yet.
Thank you.

Any nursing students out there postponing this fall until we can get some choices?
