Leave the phone at home !!

What is it with some staff??!?!? Ho many times do they need to be told , "No cell phones on the floor"- I am so annoyed, actually had a CNA working ADL's with an alert resident talking to someone on her ear thing (can't rememer what they are called right now I am so annoyed !) and the rsidnet was so confused as she could not tell who the staff member was talking to , the rsidnet or the person on the ear bud thing... I literally had to go to my office and chill out prior to talking further with the staff person after I called her out of the room to get off the phone .. hoow rude can you be... I am so tired ot staf acting "entitled", ie : "My kids gotta get me some how if they need me you can't tell me not to have my cell with me , they need to get me in an emergencey ..." Funny, but before cell phones existed , there were emergenices weren't there ? Can you just imagine being the poor little residnet in the bed trying to figure out who the hell the CNA is talking to ? Uggh.....:bluecry1::banghead:

You work in an OR and you used a cell phone IN the OR???????? Please tell me I misunderstood.

No, you did not misunderstand! Yes, I stepped into the corner of the room by the door and sent a quick message trying to take care of an important matter, it took about 2 seconds, doesn't make it right though. If you read all my post you would see that I was upset with myself for doing that. I have NEVER done that before, or will I again. I was with another nurse, the case was over and I made a bad decision to send the message, I was reprimanded for it, so like I said, lesson learned.

So, do you think the experienced nurse looking at sexy halloween costumes online with a scrub tech was any better, because you didn't say anything about that! In my opinion, that caused way more of a distraction than what I did, I mean, the Dr., Anesthesiologist and the male scrub tech were drooling over what they were seeing, and asking the female scrub tech to show them what costume she was wearing! No one even knew that I had used my phone except the other nurse cause she saw me. She was right to reprimand me for doing that, I would have done the same thing, but sometimes nurses who are training orientees need to think of the example they are setting too. Looking at stuff online and then getting on to me for trying to take care of an urgent matter is kind of hipocritical if you ask me. I shared this because I wanted to contribute to the discussion, not to get reprimanded again! I know I shouldn't have done that, and it never happened before and it will never happen again, so let's move on please.

Anybody else get annoyed with the husbands that call daily just to chat with their little wife? This just drives me crazy! I'm sorry but I don't even like to answer the phone when my coworkers' spouses call because I just get irritated. I don't mind if there is an emergency but the daily phone call just is over the top.

Carrying a cell is understandable but using it around a resident or any other inappropriate time is just wrong! As a patient I would feel very unimportant if someone who was suppose to be taking care of me was busy on their cell.

We have no secretary, so the nurses have to answer the phones... I really dislike having to be a receptionist for people who are constantly having calls from family and friends... or worse, creditors... wastes what little time I have to do my real job. It would be nice if they used their cells for these; put them on vibrate and answer them on break...

I keep my cellphone on silent, but on me at all times, even though it doesn't do me any good considering I don't get service there but sometimes I get lucky, and I do it in case something goes wrong and I cant leave the room. I mean we have voice mail for a reason, Its really not a bad problem where I work.

ok so why are people who continue to do it keep getting warning after warning after warning. My family comes before my job. I carry it with me on vibrate. The kids know to leave a message. If i depended on someone else for messages especially emergency ones i would never get them. The person using the bluetooth while with pts should be warned that next time will result in termination and thats it

You will not believe this, but it's the truth. My sister's ex-husband died in his kitchen and my sister and their child (28 year old daughter) went over to wait on the ambulance to take him to the funeral home. He was very tall and the kitchen door was narrow, so the staff had to stand him upright to get him through the door. Just as he became fully erect, one of the ambulance crew's cell rang. The ring tone? A Tarzan yell. My sister and daughter were horrified, then burst out laughing because my ex-brother-in-law had a very warped sense of humor and if he knew about it, he would have been rolling on the floor laughing. For a different family, though, what a terrible thing. Turn your cell phones off, health care people!

:eek::eek::imbar:imbar That is so sad!

I posted about this same topic recently.

I worked with a tech who held his cellphone to his face with a surgical mask while caring for pts. Being able to wipe poop and talk on his phone at the same time. What skill.

This is beyond inappropriate- and the people who text all day while neglecting their pts- OMG- they should all be publicly flogged.

When the priest was giving my husband last rites or anointing of the sick, the family was gathered in a circle around the bed holding hands. To my horror, my cell phone rang. I had forgotten to shut it off before I walked into CCU...Father was understanding, afterwards he said,"Today God sends message in mysterious and unusual ways..." But it shook me...

Our company has a written policy about cell phones. They are not allowed in patient care areas. Period. They are not to be on vibrate, they are not to be on. unless you are clocked out on a lunch break or one of the 2 5 min breaks...cell phones are prohibited and i think it should be this way.

we are professionals. we should act it. chatting on our personal cell phone on company time shouldnt even enter our heads.

before cell phones, IMO, there werent as many "emergencies" and if there were emergencies...they were made and recvd from the company phone.

can you tell this topic burns me up? i'm so sick of having to tell staff to get off their cell phone while supposedly working!

this sense of entitlement that some people have really burns me up. you are hired to do a job...not talk on the phone or text. plain and simple.

and yes, i have children, a husband, elderly parents...just like everyone else. if my family needs me..they call me on the work number, someone takes a message and when i can i call back unless it is a dire emergency and then they page me for the call...just like for everyone else. when i pull in the parking lot, i put my sunglasses up, grab my purse and the last thing i do is turn off my phone. and it stays off until i get off the clock!
