  1. SweetJen.. how long ago did you apply?? How long did you wait?? Congrats!!
  2. My only experience with this as a CNA is in the Dementia/Alzheimer unit. Often a pt with Dementia will refuse baths and it would take sometimes the entire CNA staff playing good cop bad cop to get them to agree to one. There is a point, when a pt is covered in their own feces and stinks that it's for their own dignity we give them a bath.. even if they refuse.. especially since they don't know any better.. As far as washing pts against their will, NO WAY! I wouldn't do that.I'd probably go to management and see what I am suppose to do.
  3. When will the Fall 2010 application packet be available?
  4. How does the apollo loan repayment work? I am familiar with the FAFSA type loans but not with private school loans. Like how much do you have to repay each month and how long do you have to pay it back?
  5. If this comes up again I am going to get a more detailed job description from my work and then bring it up.. I am glad I am not nuts for thinking that..
  6. I got accepted into a Phlebotomy program this year and it's only going to cost me a few hundred dollars. It was kind of competitive through a community college. Real excited I got in. I am thinking it might help me get a Patient Tech job in the hospital.. kind of like a step up CNA. Just wondering if anyone else has considered phlebotomy training?
  7. In homehealth usually there is housework in the job description. Some of my patients don't need housework as they hire a cleaning service, but other times I have patients who rely on me heavily for all their cleaning... and the latter leaves me a bit bitter sometimes. I don't mind at all cleaning up after myself and my patient.. dishes, ironing, LIGHT housework etc but sometimes I really feel like a maid and that they need to hire a cleaning lady to supplement what I do. If I am there for 4 hours, I don't think I should be spending 3 hours cleaning every inch of the house several times a week.... Just wondering, how much is too much? Don't get me wrong, I am happy to have a job and would probably never say anything anyway.. but I do get annoyed sometimes.
  8. How much "easier".. and by easier I mean, less Essays is taking Bio 156/181 in person rather than Rio? I took 156 at Rio Salado and was over whelmed by essays.. I couldn't keep up with the mandatory essays plus the essays you should do incase they pop up on the midterm. Any thoughts?
  9. Ugh! I am so upset at myself. I was planning on turning in my LPN application this Friday. So I waited until the last minute to take my NET so I could cram more studying in. Well the first section they tested on was Math and I was super nervous. All the math questions were pretty easy 5th grade level.. but I am a SLOW test taker and still rusty a bit on my math. I had like 10 questions left when the time was up and the computer moved me to the next section. Now I wish I would of just guessed real quick on all 10 and I probably would of passed (barely). I scored 80% on reading and well on everything else though. Now I have to wait 60 days which means I have to wait until next spring to apply for Fall 2010 Also the lady told me they might change the NET test within the next 60 days? UGH! If anything I hope they give more time for the Math!! My guess is they might might it harder?
  10. Ugh I have less than 2 weeks to get my lpn application in and I need to get a chicken pox titer done or have proof I was vaccinated. I got chicken pox when I was 4 or 5, I think.. I keep calling all these medical places by my house and no one does them??? Should I just get the vaccine even though I've already had chicken pox? Why is it so hard to get a titer done! I live in Arizona. Any advice/help?
  11. I need to get my bum into gear. I still haven't taken the NET and that's the last thing on my to do list, then I have to get it approved by an adviser! I'll probably turn my application in on the 6th of November. I am wondering what the chances are that i'll get in!! Oh no! I just realised it might take awhile to get my NET results.. anyone know how long it takes? Crap, I might be out already! Who else will be applying?
  12. With my agency they tell me where the location is and if I am interested. They know that their CNAs also work for other agencies so our schedules could already be filled, etc So it's not a big deal if you turn it down. I was offered like 5 or 6 cases in a row that I were too far for me. The gas cost alone would of been half my paycheck. I said no and I was worried that they'd stop offering me cases. I finally got a few cases that work perfect for me. I would not go to an area I did not feel safe, either. I would sign up at another agency and tell them I what areas I am willing to drive to. You could also tell the agency, call me if you have cases in these areas, etc I wouldn't work for an agency that wasn't flexible!
  13. Ok so I am not working full-time or anything but I pick up a few homecare shifts a week as a CNA. It's obviously so much nicer then LTC or Acute care. I actually don't dread going into work and when my shift is over I say "that's it?". Just nice because I want to keep up my hours so I can renew my license and the stress is low enough I can actually focus on schoolwork in the evenings. When I was doing LTC with like 12 patients I thought I was going to go mad. I can see myself doing this a long time and it will be great because it'll look good on my resume. I tend to job hop a lot with LTC because of the stress! So just food for thought.. if you are fed up with LTC.. try homecare!!
  14. Here in AZ one lpn program is 2,888
  15. Thanks for the advice about a&p and chem! Have not taken those yet.
