Doesn't it just drive you insane when someone tells you that Mr. Smith's O2 STAT is 96%?

It's O2 SAT people! Sat, short for saturation. I even hear respiratory therapists saying this. I am sooooo tempted to say something next time, but I know it's just petty, so I needed to vent here. Thank you.

Had a workmate today tell me she had "quandaried" about a problem. Me, I always thought a "quandary" was a noun, but apparently now it's a verb...

It's right up there with "gifting." Grrr.

I wish people would learn the difference between advice and advise and loose and lose.

And to spell "definitely." The root word is definite. Add "ly" and you have a lovely word. For the record, there is no "a" in definitely.

UGH!!! Sorry all you Midwesterners but PLEASE use anymore properly.

It is supposed to be used in negative statements.

'We don't live there anymore.'

'I don't go to work anymore.'

It is NOT supposed to be used in a positive.

'We shop at Wal-Mart anymore.'

'I drive the truck anymore.'

Annoying to the max! :D Don't misuse the word anymore anymore! LOL

That's a Midwestern thing?!?! I have never heard "anymore" that used that way. It must not be in my neck of Iowa.

I used to hear it all over Indiana and Illinois. Now, somehow, it is making it up here. Ugh.

:anpom: Those are my pet peeves too!! Rock on!

This thread is very therapeutic. so I'm nt the only 1 who is irritated by "definate" or "intermittant", when the correct spelling contains no "a" in either word.

How about jewlery instead of jewelry? Loose instead of lose. And people not knowing when to say "She and I" instead of "her and me". "We" went, not "us" went.

Great thread!

I think that's just something particular to certain rural areas, although I personally use it now, having learned it from others. Nifty to me, sorry.

I see things like that all the time too. For supposedly educated people to have such a poor grasp of the correct terminology and spelling of even common things is unreal. I've seen "enama", "viens", "illicited" (my favorite!), "pedle" and "auxilla", another fave.

Scary isn't it? Their teachers couldn't spell or they can't, I guess. Scary. I think you should anonynmously print a list of these words along with their correct spellings so the offenders can learn them.

I once had a boyfriend in HS that would say 'proVably' instead of probably!

Drove me insane!

My ex husband says mayonnaise , he says "mayoneggs" which in turn really sounds like "man eggs".. I can't stand it! Thankfully, I don't have to hear it anymore. lol

'Defiantly' for definitely, lately, has seemed to be all over the internet. Drives me crazy.
