Doesn't it just drive you insane when someone tells you that Mr. Smith's O2 STAT is 96%?

It's O2 SAT people! Sat, short for saturation. I even hear respiratory therapists saying this. I am sooooo tempted to say something next time, but I know it's just petty, so I needed to vent here. Thank you.

Sounds "yankee" (I'm in the midwest, but spent years in TX... the "at" drove them nuts where I was )

Watch it Tex! New Yorker here and would never, ever say "where you at''...!!(Them's fightin words )

I think that's just "Ignoramus, USA".....because I have heard the term when I lived in Indianapolis ( ie Midwest-so midwesterners not immune to it) and I hear it a lot now while living in Florida....it's just-duh!

Yeah- I think it's a "north" thing I'm SO sorry I excluded you guys on the east coast But FLORIDA Have they jumped ship from the South?? ? Of course, isn't FL a bunch of transplants? (I have an aunt and cousins there that started in the MW)... who knows what sort of mixes of language are there

SONimeter instead of CENTImeter (when I first heard the term sonimeter I thought it was a new form of measurement!)

Are you sure that isn't just a French influenced pronunciation as of 'centime' , the fractional unit of the Franc

Anyway just to add to the fun; a metre is measure of length , a meter is a device which shows a reading of a quantity...

Ah, Florida, don't get me started. Yes, it's a mixture. Sort of a salad bowl if you will. I sort of depends where you are in Fl what you get in the mix...South Fl where I am is heavy on New York-New Jersey and there abouts...West Coast is more Mid west I think...I think north Central Fl is just Good ole red neck....I know I know...only kidding.... ?...but Very true for the Pan handle.....?

They're going over there to get their things. Can you get me two of those to go things , too? English must be horrifying to "book learn"....

What about:

"where are you at"

"where I am at..."

I think it was my 7th grade teacher who always replied "Before the 'at' ".

"Sontimeter"...as in "the patient's wound is 2 sontimeters wide". It's "centimeter". Do you say a gumball costs 1 sont? Nooooo.

Ugh... the sonimeter thing has annoyed me since nursing school.... I even went home one day and looked it up thinking "maybe this is something different and I should learn this!"

And working in cardiology (and a former pharmacy tech) - some meds drive me batty! Metoprolol, carvedilol, atorvastatin, hctz .... oh the list just goes on ?

My patient kept asking for her Dilauntin the other day,... meaning Dilaudid.

Dilaudid + Dilantin = Dilauntin. Takes care of seizures and pain at the same time! Kind of like Zetia + Zocor = Vytorin. Not a bad idea. ?

A dear relative of mine is really struggling to provide care for her demented husband... a tough situation for her given her advanced age and mediocre health. However, I had to laugh when I received an email that her husband was hospitalized for a "urinal track" infection. :lol2:

My anatomy teacher keeps pronouncing groin grow-in.... its supposed to be gr-oin (like in coin) right?

My psych instructor pronounces parietal as peri EYE uh tal LOL
