Hi everyone,
I was going to University of Phoenix for my LVN-BSN program for almost 4 years and then I failed a class & was kicked out of the program. Now I'm stuck paying almost 40K in loan, for a degree I did not accomplish. I also went to few colleges in search for a program which would allow me to finish where I had left off at University of Phoenix. Unfortunately I have had a very difficult time because none of the colleges would allow me to start where I had left off. They want me to pay everything all over again and invest another 3-4 years of my time in completing their program.
Does anyone have any suggestions? Or perhaps know of a program in California that will allow me to finish my last year of LVN-BSN? I'm willing to relocate if I have to. Please advice. Thank you.

It is highly unlikely that you will find any school willing to accept another school's nursing credits. That is because while the state's BON sets what must be covered, each school has the ability to distribute that information into courses as it sees fit. Is this your only failure and does the policy state that failing once is grounds for dismissal? Is there an appeals process that you can look into? Beyond that, you may simply have to accept that you will have to start over fresh.

Even schools within the same system will not accept another school's courses. One of my peers transferred from one school to another school in the same system, (less than 80 miles from each other) and the only nursing course that transferred was "Nursing Fundamentals". Luckily he decided to transfer after only a year.

I didn't know people could get kicked out of for profit schools.

Can you appeal this? Most schools will allow you to appeal your dismissal and repeat the class.
No I am not able to appeal this. I have tried.

"For-Profit" that you speak of may mean "commercial" schools, one who take anyone.
There are many private "for-profit" schools that where to the national nursing accreditation standards.
As far as this thread, I'm going to refrain from further commenting...to pay 40 grand and not finish a degree?

Yes, like UofP. Have they ever turned anyone down?? And I, too, am shocked to hear that it is possible to flunk out of UofP.

Welcome to the beast that is for-profit nursing schools. Please please please spread the word to all you know so that when they sit down to research these schools the way you did four years ago, they will find more truthful information than you did. I'm hoping you DID your homework before signing your life away to one of these unscrupulous institutions, right?
im very sorry that this has happened to you, unfortunately, what you're describing is one of the many reasons 99% of the posters here would advise you to turn tail and run before you ever send them a dime. They are not interested in helping you earn a degree (as evidenced by what you are learning now), taking your money at rates far exceeding reputable schools is their first and foremost concern

Have you looked at Holy Names in Oakland. It is worth speaking to an admissions person there. It is expensive though, but a good a school and maybe they will give you a chance depending on your other grades.
