Kicked out of University of Phoenix
Have you looked at Holy Names in Oakland. It is worth speaking to an admissions person there. It is expensive though, but a good a school and maybe they will give you a chance depending on your other grades.

looking for LVN School in North Ca
Hi Thanks for the friend request. I went to a school called St Francis but it has closed. I don't know much about west med. I had a classmate that went there before ST Francis, and she said she felt the program wasn't teaching her much, so she left and looked for another program. As for unitek, I have only had friends who have gone to the bridge so not sure of the lvn portion. My advice is that it seems that each program has problems or things that can be done better. I haven't heard of a program that didn't have some critics whether substantial or not. Wherever you choose to go, really take it upon yourself to be proactive in getting the most from it. They are fast paced and many people complain about that but it's nursing school, and it flies. I have a few co workers and friends who went to the bridge at Unitek and I'm hoping to go next year. I've heard it can be disorganized but I hear that about a lot of programs. I also have a friend taking the BSN online with them and it's going well. Did you try mission college, gavilan college, chabot college? Also check bvnpt for accreditation and maybe some new ones popped up. Good luck!

Capping ceremony
We had a capping ceremony the night before we began our clinicals. It was a great milestone in our program. It was inspiring to be capped/pinned and recite the nursing oath. It was something that really helped us to keep going when it got hard. Congrats!

Med Tech / Med Aides in california?
In California just for the record CNA and MedTechs are different. As a CNA I was not suppose to give Meds in the facility setting. When I was hired as a MedTech I could only function under that certification/licensing, not my CNA or my LVN when I got it. Ijs I never saw specific delegation of MedTech duties on any NCLEX teaching or testing. So with that being said the I would believe the OP can not just look at what CNA delegation is appropriate and go off of that. Also different types of facilities function very differently assisted is very different that skilled or hospitals ect.OP I am glad you found the ordinance for Cali. I'm sure it is helpful.

Med Tech / Med Aides in california?
I am a LVN who use to be a MeD Tech and I never saw anything on my NClex prep or test concerning MedTechs. I saw CNA delegation ect but not Med techs. I will try to look in my old training manual if I still have it lol and see who governs that. But as I know in Cali each tech goes through a 20-30 hour training on med administration and there is a test administered by the facility or teaching entity that you must pass before working. Many assisted living facilities use them because the scope of what is done for the patients are lower than say skilled nursing. But the administration is also defined as assisting residents to take their own meds rather than at skilled you manage the meds. When I was a tech because I was in nursing school I looked up all my meds, many of the techs didn't really know all the side effects, proper dosing ect, and what was scary I handled the MARs and made sure orders were right ect many times if I hadn't had been in school learning about pharm I wouldn't of questioned why certain things were ordered or thought to clarify things with the Dr's. We did have an Nurse manager to guide what we were doing and had a lot of Inservices to ensure safety. It is legal. Hope that helps. Just watch keep watch on staying compliant with the state for your own license my manager had to clean up slot of stuff and always reminded me that when I get there to make sure of this.

Ambien order did I make a mistake
Thank you so much. I read it to mean repeat original dosage as well. I am going to call my nursing manager to clarify again myself. I definitely don't want to be in error and jeopardize a patient. Also I don't want to give the wrong dosage because others see this as a a repeat half dose when not stated as MRx1 as a a half dose. I am a new nurse and have been wrenching my brain on this. I so appreciate your input.

Ambien order did I make a mistake
The order reads Ambien 5mg 2tabs po qhs, mrx1 what do you think this is? I thought original Order of two 5mg tabs can be repeated once if needed. I was told you only repeat with one 5mg tab. I am confused. What do y'all think?

BSN without RN
True. If you want something you have to work for it. There isn't shortcuts in quality nursing. Good luck to you. Day 4 you must be so excited. I love nursing school.

BSN without RN
Yes many of the prereqs can be done online but many nursing programs do not except the science courses that have a lab from Online schools. Also as the other poster stated it really helps to be in class for those foundamental classes in nursing. I totally understand doing the RN/BSN or LVN/BSN somewhat online because you've got a lot of the meat and potatoes of learning the nursing process, in theory as well as clinicals. Also many times people really don't look into what nursing really entails, trying to water it down takes away from this being a profession. What area are you in? Does she hold a degree in another discipline? There are accelerated BSN programs for second degree seekers.

Retake in California
I didn't do a retake but I thought if you failed you just paid Pearson to schedule a new date after the required wait and took it. honestly if you are close enough I would drive down to Sacramento. I also had luck with emailing them when I had questions. They are understaffed and take awhile for some things. I graduated in jan. My school sent my papers to sacramento in march and Sacramento didn't send me the paperwork to test until July. I was bouncing off the walls! I had emailed like crazy, and they updated me on what days they were processing.

My school has a pre-nursing program but No clincals
I have never heard of a program that offers an ADN approved by the board of nursing that does have clinicals at all. I would check that out with your state board and really ask the school what you graduate with upon completion . Will you be able to sit for the NCLEX after completing this program. Unfortunately there are programs out there not board approved but still open offering the dream.

How hard is LPN school?
It is very hard but doable. I would recommend if possible not working. At least your first semester. It has mostly been difficult for me because I am single and live cross country from family so financially it isnt an option not to work full time to live. I just really schedule out my time and stay up on my reading and material, which will basically get you through. I honestly cant wait to finish because I think the emotional stress is harder than the academics. I go to a very strict school. You are threatened with being dropped all the time. Even as a good student! I am not a person who cries but nursing school did it to me.lol You want it so bad and at times you wanna give up but you cant. You can do it! Just set your time up well and stay in your books. Nursing school is different than any other type of school and people dont always see that but it is so worth it. I finish in Jan and dont regret a moment.. Goog Luck.

Help! Stay in LVN or go to RN?
Make sure you wait until you officially are enrolled in the program to drop your current school. Well if it was me if one program is day and the other evening I would over lap and do both for the few months, but if not possible go into the RN program in Fall 2011. It would break my heart to lose the money already spent on the LVN program but if your plan was to just bridge any ways it is a shorter route to jump into the RN. Just make sure that program is gonna work for you ( ex schedule, funding ect) You dont wanna drop your current program to get into one not really doable for what ever reason. If you get into the Spring class do it cause again it is a quicker route to your goal. Look at it this way you have a jump on the curriculum and you can brush up on anything you may have not done the best in before. Good luck hope it all works out and congrats on the opportunity.

LPN as quick transition into nursing field...
I decided to go that route because I am in a state that has insane waiting lists for programs and I have had friends waiting for 2-3 yrs to get in and your prereqs are not good after 5. I know someone who waitied and now has to take some things over, which is crazy huh. I saw many programs that offered the bridge for LPNS without the long wait list. This will probably become saturated soon as well because alot of people are going this route. There are even some private colleges that offer the bridge a year after you do the LPN and have a quicker enroll for alumni. It isnt for everyone but if you need to work soon and the options are like they are where I am I would do it all over again. I was getting a bit discouraged not doing anything remotely close to nursing doing my prereqs and looking at the wait after finishing them and the cuts made at the state college nursing programs. Since I started classes for my LVN and having a time frame of when I will be in clicicals I have my groove back, and am learning alot of fundamentals that will help me when I do bridge. Also there are a few scholarships that you can get that obligate you to work for a certain hospitals for like two years after graduation and that is a gauranteed position after school. You get assistance with funding and experience from this. Just be careful of the program you pick and check them out on your nursing board and listen to what people say about it, and go sit in a class yourself. Yes some places are fazing out hiring LVNS but not every place and I see many jobs for LPNs, and many of my friends who work at hopitals as RNs tell they are still hiring LVNs. Salons and cosmetic surgery places hire LVNs as well. As my teacher says you gotta sell your skill. Like the last poster said just dont get comfortable being and LVN and not go back for RN.
