Kaplan harder than NCLEX-RN, Passed with 75Q & Low Kaplan Scores

Published

Let me start off by saying that I don't know whether I recommend Kaplan or not for NCLEX review. I am on the fence because I took Kaplan, used all Q bank questions and Q trainers (and reviewed all questions from both twice); and I passed NCLEX-RN on the first try. I will give you a little background about me: I am an LPN and have been for 7 years, but am also severely out of practice, I was a C student in school and thought I would fail every semester (I failed none). In addition to Kaplan I did a little of Saunders, and I mean VERY little. I studied solidly for about 3 weeks with anywhere from 50-265 questions daily. I graduated Dec 2010, took Kaplan (in class) at the end of January, and took NCLEX-RN at the end of March.

My Kaplan scores for Qbank and Qtrainers ranged from 48%-70% (mostly in the 50's). When I sat for NCLEX I found the questions WAY easier than a lot of Kaplans thought-provoking questions. I got about 3 drag and drop, 8 or 9 SATA, infection control, a lot of priority (who would you see first) and a few pharmacology. The NCLEX SATA's were nowhere NEAR as difficult as Kaplans. The computer cut off at 75, and I was singing hallelujah because I felt very confident in my performance.

The reason why I felt confident, tho, was not because of the fact that I did thousands of Kaplan questions. I was confident because I prayed and truly believe that I took Jesus into that testing center with me. Prayer was the key for me, God is so good! I honestly feel that NCLEX is not a test that you can prepare for by doing content reviews or tons of questions. I mean honestly, you cant study everything, yet NCLEX CAN test you on ANYTHING. I spoke with a friend of mine a few days before my test and she said "Girl, put away those books now! None of that stuff will be on NCLEX!"...and she was right...I didn't see one question that was even similar! BUT...........every test is different and Kaplan may just help you, and maybe it helped me too (if very little)...BOTTOM LINE: If it is in God's will, YOU WILL BE AN RN! Also PVT works! Tried it about 45 minutes after the test and got the "good pop-up". I would also like to say that this site is a GREAT resource for both information and emotional support! Good luck future RN's!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:yeah::yeah::yeah::yeah:

My exam is also in this friday. I am also doing my QT 7 today. My problem is i cannot concentrate too long. I am freaking out...........

The reality is you can take breaks during nclex so when I did qt 7 I did 100 questions then took a 20 minute break did 100 more took a break and finished in about 3 hours

Are the questions in the QBANK at the Application and Analysis level?

Congratulations for passing your exam. It is very consoling to hear that. I have been struggling with exam for the longest, I am just looking up to God to help me pass this time around. I am need your prayers as I promise you mine as you prepare.

Hi Beautiful,

What are your QT 7 score and Qbank average?

Specializes in Public Health.

Just finished the NCLEX with 75 questions! Keep your fingers crossed!!

Kaplan was twice as hard as the NCLEX. I was in a class, took the exam last Tuesday, shut off at 76 questions...worth every penny. NCLEX I thought was cake.

Now I am a murse

I practiced 150 questions a day usually.

gb230408 did you practice doing the 150 questions a day with KAPLAN qbank questions etc? Or questions from other authors/resources too?

I do have to agree that q bank is harder than the nclex. As for the Kaplan class itself if you are an average to above average test taker I would save your money I did not use the descision tree at all.. IMO I would just buy the q bank I think it helped. Also the Kaplan instuctors psyched me out in saying you need all these alternative formats to pass and your last question needs to be an alternative format too. My 75th question popped up it was an easy one... I was convinced I failed... Pvt twice got good pop up, quick results said I passed. All that worrying for nothing... Just my experience with Kaplan and nclex good luck to all.

"If its in God's Will, you will be an RN"

I also used Kaplan and felt that it helped me pass the NCLEX with 75 Questions.

Advice:

Do as many questions as possible, if time and money allows also do the videos that Kaplan can provide. I felt that Kaplan made it real comfortable for me to take the actual NCLEX. Although I was still very nervous, while I was taking the test it felt like I was taking another Kaplan practice test. The questions were still hard and I had about 23 SATA which was painful, but hey I am done.

I still have Kaplan until October if anyone is interested.

Person with the best joke, advice or other I will send the info to if you add your e-mail also. :)
