  1. Do you think being a medic prior to taking the test helped you at all?
  2. Codes are easy besides as an ICU nurse you will probably go to hospital wide codes anyway. Go for the best and most diverse learning experience you can get.
  3. Yes you do need to be sponsored by a MICU project in NJ. As far as courses I think they are individualized per the project. I know mine has you do in house training, ride time, intubations etc. I think you need 1 yr ED or Crit care at least along with ACLS and PALS. Anyone from PA know if you are already a NREMT-P and a RN do you have to test and do skills, I would assume you do not have to test you just get credentialed, right?
  4. My sister in law is a traditional student. Great school but grading is tough almost like ivy league grading system. Be prepared to work your butt off studying. Congrats best of luck.
  5. I think the most challenging part of nursing school was the "fluff" pre-reqs themselves. For me they were what drove my gpa down. I showed up thinking I could get an easy A and of course I got a B lol. As far as nursing curricula I did study a decent bit when I could ( i worked full time and have 2 kids so it was very hard sometimes), not nearly as much as some of my classmates ( I have years of healthcare background to begin with so that helped decrease my study time) Some class mates say that they studied 8-10 hrs a day during the meat of our program ( spring of junior year) To me I think that is crazy study as much as your A ** can handle, because that is all the brain can absorb. My advise is to only study in small pieces and try to stay ahead of the game and not to cram. When you sit there for hours reading you are just reading word and not comprehending which during your nursing courses is what you really need to do. Nursing texts are awful reads to. Any questions let me know.
  6. But technically even if you get all 75 questions wrong you can still eventually dig yourself out. Which is why I don't think it should shut off at 75 for a fail...highly unlikely but possible.

Personally I think there is much more to,nursing school than GPA.. I'm hoping that places take into consideration other factors. While not having a 4.0 but doing well in nursing school. I worked full time and have two kids. If anything my gpa should mean more because it shows I can prioritize and have real life experience...well here's hoping.
  8. I wonder the same thing.. according to what I read how statistically one can fail at 75 questions when that is not even half the test.I have read that the average is 50 percent. Of that's the case people should fairly get another 60 questions before it shuts off to be fair. There still is another 190 questions for one to prove competence... Sounds like a sham to me.
  9. I do have to agree that q bank is harder than the nclex. As for the Kaplan class itself if you are an average to above average test taker I would save your money I did not use the descision tree at all.. IMO I would just buy the q bank I think it helped. Also the Kaplan instuctors psyched me out in saying you need all these alternative formats to pass and your last question needs to be an alternative format too. My 75th question popped up it was an easy one... I was convinced I failed... Pvt twice got good pop up, quick results said I passed. All that worrying for nothing... Just my experience with Kaplan and nclex good luck to all.
  10. Took mine July first mine sounded pretty similar . 10 satas and 3 exhibits. 75 questions and mine shut off. I found mine easy so according to Kaplan I swore I failed... Tried Pvt after 1 hr and 26 hrs with good pop up. Quick results say I passed.... Good luck let us know.
