Just 'Gotta' Buy Something! :-D

Published

OK, once in a while I'll get this "just 'gotta' buy something" feeling for nursing school....whenever it may be that I get in. :clown:

Here's my latest expenditure.

bp_steth_kit.jpeg

I paid about $30 for it.... I don't know if that's a bargain or not, but I liked it. lol Although it seems like I paid about $20 or $30 for my inexpensive stethoscopes (no bp cuff) about 10 or so years ago.

I figure I can practice on B/P's since I haven't taken one in several years (except a couple of times in A&P 2 this past summer.)

I also figure I will want a backup stethoscope, just in case my Littman gets stolen, broken, or lost. (No, I haven't bought my Littman yet.)

So, what have you purchased already, before you find (found) out that you were accepted?

:angryfire

I know it gets stressful. Just try to keep your eye on your goal.

It will be all worth it in the future. (((Hugs)))

I'll walk into that open lab tomorrow all bright- eyed and bushy- tailed and tackle those microbes, I guess down here in Texas they rope 'em.... and then they'll get heatfixed and killed!!!!:angryfire

Go get those microbes, Stpauligirl!

Yes, I think it's a good magazine, although a lot of it is waaay over my head. Still, I read (or try to read) all of the articles so I can at least gain some familiarity with the "lingo". I really enjoyed a recent article on pressure ulcers. Read it while snacking on a Luna bar. Tried to tell my hubby all about it and he felt sick.

Rope 'em by the......ummmmm....by the well, just rope 'em. :chuckle

MissJen, I know what you mean. I figure I'll get magazines now, and when I actually understand it all more, I'll have more saved back to revert to, if need be. I know at one point I'll need to throw them away, or donate them or something. For now, they may be useful in NS, or just to keep me focused. :)

buying something medicinal makes it all real for me too :chuckle in my case it's plenty of Extra Strength Tylenol!

I got that fancy Mosby's Dictionary of Medicine, Nursing & Health Professions, 7th edition....let's hope it won't be outdated before I get into a program I can see my grandchildren finding it in the addict in about 50 years and laughing about how stupid people were way back in 2006 :chuckle

I have my mother's Taber's from 1953. It's not only hilarious, it borders on frightening...as an example, for IDDM the prognosis is "grim" - that's exactly what it says....even in my one from 1992 (yes, I contemplated this before, too) it's very interesting to read how AIDS was viewed so differently just 14 years ago from the Taber's that I received for Christmas.

My DH bought me a purple Littman Cardiology III for Christmas and my new Taber's...last year he was in Barnes and Noble and bought me the 2004 Mosby's Drug Guide (the one that's all the inserts from the drugs) when he saw a pile of them on sale for ten bucks on a table!

I'm still waiting for my official packet from Duke; I too am anxious to buy some school scrubs!!! I also want to get my own blood pressure cuff and a pair of scissors. Duke also requires a PDA; I'm hoping that letter hurries up so I can start looking at them and at software. I'd like to have the PDA in advance so I can learn how to use the danged thing and am not bungling around on the floor with it once school starts!

I have a subscription to Nursing Made Incredibly Easy, and bought the book Nursing School Made Incredibly Easy.

Would one of you mind expanding on what these are? This is the first I have heard of anything "Incredibly Easy.." in reference to nursing school...lolol....but I am curious what these are? :roll

Springhouse Publishing Company offers many "..... Made Incredibly Easy" books with topics such as Nursing, I.V.s, Charting, Pharmacology, Dosage Calculations, ECG, and NCLEX, etc.

(For example: NCLEX Made Incredibly Easy.)

The magazine is called "Nursing Made Incredibly Easy" that has 6 issues/year. I'm not sure, but I think it covers a variety of topics, has interesting nursing articles, and probably has hospital advertisements. :clown:

Ebay link so you can see what we're talking about: (They're also available through other sites & bookstores.)

Thanks....looks like something I could use to peruse while I wait to get started in a program....I have finished prereqs, coreqs, pain-in-the-neckreqs, and am worried I'll get rusty before I can start either next fall or the following spring! I have even considered re-enrolling in some of these classes or auditing just to stay on top of things!

Same here, I've finished all of my classes (pre-reqs & non-nursing support classes) for the ADN program, so I'm working on my RN-BSN bridge classes while I wait.

I figure I'll study up on dosage calculations & review my A&P powerpoint quizzes!

I feel like such a loser. I haven't bought anything. I should be getting "hopefully" my acceptance letter this week or next week into the accelerated BSN program.

So we need a stethoscope? (See, I haven't the slightest idea!!) Which ones are the best?? I heard you can get some monogrammed.

No Micro today! My teacher cancelled.

lol...you're not a loser. ;)

You'll probably need your own stethoscope. Some will tell you that as long as you can hear from it, it's good enough for school. You can buy a more expensive one after you graduate.

Personally, I just told my DH that the stethoscope I want is around $120....no discussion. lol

I'm planning on getting a Littman Cardiology III. There are other less expensive Littmans that are good as well. :)

Some places do etch your name on the chrome part for free, some for a fee, some not at all. :clown:
