Just 'Gotta' Buy Something! :-D

Published

OK, once in a while I'll get this "just 'gotta' buy something" feeling for nursing school....whenever it may be that I get in. :clown:

Here's my latest expenditure.

bp_steth_kit.jpeg

I paid about $30 for it.... I don't know if that's a bargain or not, but I liked it. lol Although it seems like I paid about $20 or $30 for my inexpensive stethoscopes (no bp cuff) about 10 or so years ago.

I figure I can practice on B/P's since I haven't taken one in several years (except a couple of times in A&P 2 this past summer.)

I also figure I will want a backup stethoscope, just in case my Littman gets stolen, broken, or lost. (No, I haven't bought my Littman yet.)

So, what have you purchased already, before you find (found) out that you were accepted?

lol...you're not a loser. ;)

You'll probably need your own stethoscope. Some will tell you that as long as you can hear from it, it's good enough for school. You can buy a more expensive one after you graduate.

Personally, I just told my DH that the stethoscope I want is around $120....no discussion. lol

I'm planning on getting a Littman Cardiology III. There are other less expensive Littmans that are good as well. :)

Some places do etch your name on the chrome part for free, some for a fee, some not at all. :clown:

Tell your DH to go to http://www.stethoscope.com. They're an authorized Littman dealer (we linked to them from the Littman site) and I don't think my DH paid $120 for my Cardiology III, which I got for Christmas. It's engraved with my name as well. He's overseas so my mother placed the order for him on the phone (can't get her to get a computer!) and she said they were VERY nice and it arrived within two weeks of her order - and this was just before Christmas.

Ok, guys, here are some things you can safely buy for school because you will use them:

Go to all.heart.com-they have cool stuff!

bandage scissors

a tote bag for clinicals

a stethescope and name tag for it (start looking for good buys on littmans and such)

nursing shoes-white with no decorations or anything-start trying on and looking for good ones, then break them in

white socks with cute medical emblems on them

start a charm bracelet and add a charm for each class completed

start a nursing school scrapbook and buy all kinds of stickers and die cuts for it

little notebooks to take in your pocket to clinicals

lot of black ink pens-i like the ones on a necklace

a good watch with a second hand (waterproof)

"RNotes" for your pocket-a wipe-off notebook that is awesome for clinicals

Anyway, just some ideas for you guys who like to shop. ;)

You must be reading my mind. I was surfing for that sort of stuff yesterday...I bought a nurse cap charm when I saw them on sale once at a gift shop going out of business...my friend gave me an ID badge holder pin for Christmas...and MAN did I want some of those little cute socks!!

I actually bought a dark blue scrapbook!! I also surfed the Swatch site for a neat watch with a second hand.

I also got a great idea - just before I graduate, I'm going to use one of my uniform scrubs and have my classmates and as many instructors/nurses I can find sign it as a memento! Or maybe my shoes!

Well, maybe not my SHOES....LOL....

I just ordered the "Nursing Made Incredibly Easy" magazine off of Ebay. :clown:

Hmmmmm, I want a nurses hat. If we dont have the opportunity to buy one for graduation/pinning, I will get one.

That's my "I did it" thing. :nurse:

Allthingsbright-

Do you know who the publisher of "Nursenotes" is?

Specializes in Level III cardiac/telemetry.

Does the nursing made easy magazine have any discount subscription cards in it? I'm a little hesitant to order a magazine off of eBay, although I order everything else there! I did find it listed for $18.95 on another website though, which is a few dollars cheaper than Amazon. What about the LPN magazine? Any thoughts?

I ordered my AJN from Ebay....but I understand your fears. You never know about anything you order online. (Since you order other stuff, I'm sure you know check the seller's feedback.)

My AJN had a card in it for Nursing Made Incredibly Easy, but it was for $19.95 plus $3.95 S&H.

I have bought a lot of books. Some are about nursing school and some are about life as a nurse, like "Your First Year as a Nurse." I'd like to get a cute tote bag and some fun socks soon, too.

ALSO, I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE my nursing clipboard!!! It has been awesome for clinicals--couldnt live without it (write your name on it with a sharpie)! Here is the one I have:

And one more list item:

A BIG pack of sharpies-write your name on everything or it wil walk off (pens, clipboards, books, scope, cuff, uniform, shoes, LOL).
