Just 'Gotta' Buy Something! :-D

Published

OK, once in a while I'll get this "just 'gotta' buy something" feeling for nursing school....whenever it may be that I get in. :clown:

Here's my latest expenditure.

bp_steth_kit.jpeg

I paid about $30 for it.... I don't know if that's a bargain or not, but I liked it. lol Although it seems like I paid about $20 or $30 for my inexpensive stethoscopes (no bp cuff) about 10 or so years ago.

I figure I can practice on B/P's since I haven't taken one in several years (except a couple of times in A&P 2 this past summer.)

I also figure I will want a backup stethoscope, just in case my Littman gets stolen, broken, or lost. (No, I haven't bought my Littman yet.)

So, what have you purchased already, before you find (found) out that you were accepted?

carolinapooh, thanks. I'll check them out. (I'll be buying it....don't want DH to pick out the wrong one.) :chuckle

allthingsbright, thanks for the good ideas listed....except we use black shoes. :clown:

Oh wow-hadnt heard of that! I guess if you buy white you will use them at some point in your career! Of course all the shoes now come in so many colors-I love the colored clogs! :)

Thanks....looks like something I could use to peruse while I wait to get started in a program....I have finished prereqs, coreqs, pain-in-the-neckreqs, and am worried I'll get rusty before I can start either next fall or the following spring! I have even considered re-enrolling in some of these classes or auditing just to stay on top of things!

Yes, LOVE that magazine-def. worth it!

lol...very true.

The program's uniforms just got switched for the class that started this semester. The uniform top is ciel blue, with black scrub pants. (STYLIN'!)

The best bandage scissors? Fiskars kiddie scissors! They are sharper, have blunt tips, are brightly colored and if you lose em they are 1.50 to 2.00 to replace. The 15. to 20 dollar bandage scissors were never sharp enough, always tore tape instead of cutting it after a bit, and if ya lose em you've lost a LOT more money!

A lot of the nurses on the units use the Fiskars kiddie scissors now instead of nurses scissors. Plus - you can write your name on the handle with a sharpie.

That sounds like a cute uniform too. I can't wait to get some black flare scrub pants. (If we are allowed to use 'non-official' pants....the top has a school logo)

Below are links to the two types of uniform tops. (I like the first one better....unless I keep gaining this "Staying on my butt studying too much" weight.)

Can you give me the link to those pants? They are rad! ;)

I have the dickies flare leg scrub pants currently for work...I love how soft they are, but I was dissappointed at how fast they faded!

Also, the pockets are really small on them and not useful. If I had to do it again, I think I'd get the carpenter style ones (pockets on the side of the leg, straight leg pant). Using the pockets on my scrub tops aren't so great - when I lean over a bed, they always seem to be in the way or my stuff falls out onto the bed (some of my tops have a chest pocket - stuff falls out, some have a pocket at the bottom - always in the way).

I think pants with side leg pockets are the way to go so I think once I find out the specifics I'm going to invest in 2 pairs like that. :) I'm loving this thread for some neat ideas of the maybe not necessary but definitely fun stuff. Thanks all. :)

I've also heard "the more pockets, the better". So, I've done my homework on that already. lol

As for fading, I'm sure any black pant fades fast if not hand-washed, and I won't hand-wash bacteria-strained pants. :chuckle

Yes, I agree on the pocket thing-I'm looking for low rise flares, no elastic with cargo pockets. Maybe I should invent my own line.

OK, why are scrub prints so freakin ugly? Anyone? Bueller? Bueller? :uhoh3:

Oh, and did someone say weight gain???? AGGG! Thanks for the links-I like the dickies.

:chuckle :chuckle I think scrubs are comfy.

.....Although I have put on some weight since I last wore some. I may not like them now....It's much different when you don't "need" jeans, etc to hold your gut in. :uhoh3:
