:nurse:EEEk, reality is setting in and the thrill is slowly fading (I recieved an acceptance letter yesterday and have been rushing like crazy to get everthing done and set up including going to Microbiology class last night. My physical is set for Fri morn. and I have to find out when and where to get CPR certified. I need to have certain criteria met ny Mon and the rest by 1/7. It just adds to the normal stress of the holidays... I am scared! I don't know what to expect. I have 4 kids, 2 in school and 2 home and I know this is going to be very challenging. My class is "on site and online" and is supposed to be 1 day a week from 7a-7p.

Does anyone have any advice or tips? WHat about study time, I know everyone learns at a different pace but how many hours did u study a week? What did you do for daycare? Anything you want to share I will really appreciate:heartbeat

Hello first of all CONGRATS!! So I don't have kids BUT I think I can give you some advice. First you have to be ready to work hard. If you thought it was hard to get into the program it is that much harder to stay in the program. You have to be able to manage your time. If you can organize yourself and not procastinate you will do fine. Make sure you keep up with the readings, I study about 3-4 hours a day and I still don't think that is enough. Use every resource you are given as far as website links, textbook resource websites, ATI books (they are amazing if your school uses ATI). What you need to do right away is purchase a NCLEX review book. Although you are not taking the NCLEX right now be aware that test questions are no longer like those you have had before. Nursing exam questions are very difficult when you first start nursing school they are completly different and if you don't know how to answer them even knowing the information you can still get the question wrong. Study groups help a lot also. I know someone who has 4 kids 2 at home and 2 in school and she gets good grades so if she can do it you can do it also. Besides you made it into nursing school so if you made it thus far keeping up the hard work you will make it to graduation.

GOOD LUCK!! Hope this helps

Hi!! Congrats to us both!! I was also accepted into the 2011 spring nursing program at south suburban college in south holland, il. I am very excited but nervous. What school where you accepted to? I also have 3 kids and work full time wich is probably going to have to change! I wish you luck!

Specializes in Labor and Delivery.

I have to say I am a somewhat similiar boat. I only have two but neither are in school. School has been very hard and I am so nervous about next semester and being successful. I have a relative taht I pay to watch my kids and she's great, thats one bonus. I think actually thats the most important thing thats helped me. If I need to drop them off early shes okay with it and theres nothing better then leaving and knowiung your kids are with family and in good hands. So I think anything is possible long as you have good support. Good Luck I start Jan. 10 :)

Yay! Congratulations!!!

I got accepted back in September for the January 2011 classes at my college so I am set to start soon, so I know where you are at! But like the others, the best advice is to stay organized. I have a wall calendar as well as one i can carry with me so i do not forget anything, and i check it often. It is GREAT that you start getting everything ready because believe me, it comes so fast! I felt like I was just taking entrance exams and today I just got my FBI finger print check and orientation is on the 30th... so believe me, the time will fly.

My school offered the CPR certification there for a discopunted rate, but you can always look into your local chapter of the Red Corss because they offer classes, or just google your zip code along with "CPR Certification classes."

Lets see.... what else?

Watch with second hand for clinicals, plently of notebooks and folders, etc.

Anyway, good luck and have fun! :)

Congrads!!!!

You can do it!!!

Stay focused and never give up!

I too just got accepted to a nursing program for Spring 2011! I was called last week saying I was an alternate and yesterday morning I received another phone call saying that I was now officially accepted into the program to start Feb 7, 2011 at Los Angeles City College (LACC). I have a couple months to mentally prepare (and brush up a little bit on my A&P which I took 4 1/2 years ago).

I wonder how many other men will be in the class with me. One thing that does bug me is whenever the nurse is a man people preface by saying "male" nurse. You don't have people saying "female doctor". How come when the news reports on something it's, "and their male nurse". What would happen if they said, "and their Hispanic nurse" or "their Jewish nurse"? Psht!

Congrats! I'm starting nursing school next month as well and in my class there are 7 guys (including me) in a class of 48 people. From what I've heard, that's a pretty common ratio.

Congrats 2 all recently accepted. I was accepted into an ADN RN program that starts Jan. 10, 2011. I am excited & ready 2 rock & roll in this program. I completed my CPR(BLS for Healthcare Providers) course last week & is certified. All of my vaccines/immunizations are done, except I need to get my 3rd does of the Hepatitis B Vaccine next week(I started my immunization process back in the summer, in anticipation of possibly getting accepted into nursing program). Uniform fittings take place in January. 1st Nursing Orientation takes place next week.

Much success to all new Nursing Students. We can do it. :yeah:

Yay! Congrats to us Spring 2011 nursing students!!! I too start Jan 10th and I can not wait and am super excited/nervous at the same time. I plan to work my BUTT off to maintain my 3.0 GPA. I've already submitted all my paperwork (physical, immunizations, signatures, BLS card) plus I've ordered 2 sets of custom uniforms for my school's program. My mom (also a RN) even got me a Littman cardio III stethoscope (in candy apple red!) as a b-day present. So needless to say I'm amped and ready lol
