  1. I totally can relate to you because I constantly feel frustrated with my test scores. I feel like I have studied My butt off and I still can't get that A. I remember I had an 90 on my first nursing test and on the rest of the tests my scores pretty much went up and down even though I never failed a test. I felt overwhelmed with always expecting a very high grade on all of my tests which I feel its impossible to do. However I did manage to get an "A" in that class at the end of the semester the same class the teacher had said it was impossible and that none of her students had ever gotten an A in her class in the begging of the class. I am now in second semester and its the same thing 1st test I scored a 90 and was satisfied since I got the highest grade in the class but in my second test I only got an 86 which I felt I knew that info front and back I felt very disappointed in myself sometimes i feel like its the end of the world in situations like that but I have learned to accept my grade which was good because I passed the test and don't have to worry! so thats all we could do Move on and study even harder for the next test!
  2. I would Like to say I made it through my first semester of nursing school!!!!:yeah:Which was definately not easy. It was rather VERY stressful but well worth it. I am currently in second semester and the weeks are flying by. I only have 2 classes at the moment since I did take Patho I during this summer which was one of the best choices i could have made This semester is so less stressful just because of that. (so I would encourage everyone to take advantage of that opportunity if it is given to you). I am slowly getting adapted to the Studying and Reading millions of pages a week it now comes natural to me and i believe Nursing is like a puzzle as the days and weeks go by I began to put the puzzle together and it all makes more sence to me. I feel that some of the time the program could be no very well organized (considering the fact that we do not have a permanent Dean at the moment) but we need to learn to put a positive attitude to any situation that we might present and move ahead because falling behind will only hinder us from obtaining our goal which is walking across that stage. Yes it TRUE I sometimes don't put enough attention to my 3 kids and don't spend enough time with my husband but I look at it as a temporary situation that Im only doing to benefit our family! its not easy but when people ask me how are things going i simply reply "its going"! Nothing worth while obtaining is easy in this life there are certain sacrifices we will have to make and adjust to. I feel sometimes that alot of the students at SSC only complain about the teacher and complain but at times I feel they do it out of frustration to let their anger out for the stress the program puts on us we need to let go of that negative vibe and get down to business. We met with the temporary Dean a couple days ago and she did mention that Second semester was the HARDEST semester and if you get through it you will get through the rest of the program.. that was soo stress relieving. I have constantly high expectations of myself and sometimes that could be so stressful because getting an A in all of these tests i have come to realize is IMPOSSIBLE. I will just keep a smile on my face and keep on going... About the HESI or entrance exam to the program is not Difficult At ALL. I barely studied for that test and got very good scores overall. I did purchase the Hesi book study guide in the bookstore 2 weeks or so before my testing schedule and that seem to refresh my memory alot and it did help. keep in touch people through this forum or at school we need the support:D
  3. I am on my first semester of nursing school and let me tell you that it is definately not easy but 100% doable...I have 3 beautiful little girls ages 7, 2, and a 3 month old. These 4 weeks have been really tough on me and my family because we are still trying to get used to this new routine. There has been a couple of times where my husband complains about me not warning him how this was going to change our lives especially because I do not have time for him or my daughters. I also work 30hrs a week and that makes it even harder because i hardly have time to take care of my girls and don't have enough time to bond with my 3 month old (something that my husband does not agree with). Is not that I don't want to be with my kids or let alone take care of them is just that I don't have the time to dedicate as much as I would like and I can't help but feel very GUILTY:crying2:. I think to some extent this could take a toll in your relationship but at the same time I am trying my best to make my husband understand that this is not a permanent thing and that I need his support. He does help me taking care of my girls but he complains while doing it not only do I need physical support but verbal as well I understand him because it is very hard it has been for everyone He tellme me that I should had put this off a little longer after the kids were a little bigger but If i would had waited any longer I probably would never finish! If things keep on getting worse as far as my relationship and managing my time I will probably have to quit my job. That would definately give me more time. If anyone has any tips on how to manage work, school and still have time for your family please share I would really appreciate it... I had my fundamentals test today I hope I did good and all that studying pays off;)
  4. This is my first semester as a nursing student. My nursing program emphasize the benefits of a study group, I find that I study best by myself but have not tried to form or become part of a study group. I think I will give my nursing classmates more time to get to know each other; at the beginning everyone wants to socialize about the nursing program itself rather then the class material. regardless i dont think i will have time for a study group because i dont have enough time in my day. I have 3 kids and work 30 hrs a week, i barely have time to eat! The most important thing here is to actually STUDY by yourself or with a study group. if anyone has any tips for me as far as success in the nursing program please dont hesitate to post thanx:p
  5. First day of nursing school will be jan 12th but I'm afraid I won't be able to attend because my father has an appointment that day that I have to cone with mandatory and there is no way whatsoever of rescheduling it is vitally important that we go! I was wondering if I would miss alot of information on just that day alone and what can I do to not give the instructor a bad impression. I was thinking of going for an hour before our appointment to at least show up! I'm really nervous about this and I hope this doesn't take a toll on my final nursing experience and grade on my class even though it's only one day 1 class I still hate to do this but I have no way around this any suggestions!
  6. If you were able to pull off a&p i with good grades you will do the same second time around.. Its basically the same study regimen as a&p i only that it covers different body systems, for me the toughest will be the nervous system and lymphatic.. Just because they have soo much information to retain! I never really studied off from the book always from the notes i took from the instructors lecture they basically give you whats going to be on the test, and then from the lecture i made 25-30 questions that i would have to answer from memory i would answer these question over and over until i knew the info that made me get good grades on the test but everyone has their own study habits.. Regardless i got an "a" on both a&p's and i am starting nursing school this spring jan 2011.. Yay!!
  7. I attend South Suburban College! I finished all my pre-reqs and applied for spring 2011 nursing program and got accepted yay!!!! I personally do like South Suburban. After taken all my pre-reqs I could say some ofnthe classes ate challenging and take studying but they have really good teachers there was only one class I personally did not care for and the reason was the teacher that class was microobiology! Overall I have had a good experience at south suburban I hope I can say the same about their nursing program. I am excited and afraid of this new beginning! Ericleonheart did u get in the program?
  8. Hi!! Congrats to us both!! I was also accepted into the 2011 spring nursing program at south suburban college in south holland, il. I am very excited but nervous. What school where you accepted to? I also have 3 kids and work full time wich is probably going to have to change! I wish you luck!

Good luck to all..I was also wondering did you have to take an entrance exam for the program and how was it??
  11. Cathylady thanks so much for your encouragement! Nursing is really my dream. I believe if you put your mind into something you can achieve it. good luck to your daughter!
  12. Capella 44, Thanks for the Encouragement.. And Yes we can totally relate we are in a very similar situation. To tell you the Truth I love my present Job, but like you said who knows where this job will take me in the future. We are incredibly slow here at my job they have laid off around 20 people and Today they let go of another 2. I know I want to be a Nurse, I have had my mind set to this wonderfull career for a long time and I really want to pursue my Dream! I am soo exited about getting into the nursing program this fall! I know it will have to sacrifice a little on the economic perspective but it will be all worth it at the end!
  13. It's been quite a while since I have been active on this site... Last time I visited I posted a thread looking for an evening nursing program in Illinois, this was back in 2008.. well I did not have any luck. Looks like there is not any kind of nursing programs in my area that support my busy schedule, and Now I have another baby and it makes it that much harder. Regardless I have stressed the fact and have came to a conclusion of applying to South Suburban College ADN nursing program to Enter this fall, the counselor I met with seemed very optimistic about me getting in since my GPA is 3.86 I believe!! Im really undecided on weather im making the right choice.. I currently work in a Plumbing Supply house in Calumet Park IL my pay is good I basically make as much as an LPN would make at the moment probably a little more... Im happy with my salary especially now days that the economy is so bad, but I really want to pursue my career of nursing that I have been holding off for quite a while. If i get admitted to the Nursing program it will be to start this Fall in August, I will have to kind of Jeopordize my job since I work morninings and the only time they offer nursing programs are mornings. I will have to ask my job to see if they are kind enough and flexible to work with my school schedule! wich I hope they do!!! it will be 4 more semesters until I become an RN.?? Im wondering if Im making the right decision!?? any suggestions??? any little bit helps.. im still going to apply for the program though! is anyone familiar on how SSC nursing program is!!! and what i have to look forward too?? thanks!!

  15. I was 18yrs old when I started taking my pre-reqs.... Then I got married, had a child, and had to attend school part time. Now I am 23, and I'm just finishing my pre-classes and getting ready to enter a nursing program even though I completed all my pre classes and could enter an rn program now! Its difficult for me as a mom and full time worker, so I decided to go for my lpn first! I can't find a program just yet but I will, no matter the age never give up! That's exactly what I'm doing!
