June 2008 NCLEX support group

Published

This thread is for any upcoming graduates taking NCLEX in June of 2008.

To start off with I would love to hear if anyone is taking Kaplan, or Drexel or other prep courses and why did you choose the one you did? I am looking into them and I am just not sure which one is best and why.

Thanks!

congrats!!! I would think the BON would be correct! Celebrate your new RN status! I hope things go as well for me on Saturday

My name showed up on the OK BON site this morning, and I tested on Tuesday afternoon.

Pearson Vue won't have my results available until this afternoon, but I'm thinking that, if the BON says I'm an RN, then I PASSED!!!!!!

Congrats Miss Nina, RN! :)

loboscon,

I am having severe anxiety. I even broke out in hives. I thought I would do better on the questions but I think I am completely burned out. I am completely thinking about rescheduling the exam. I am physically sick about this. Saturday the 21st seemed so far away two weeks ago and now its here and i don't know what to think. Any advice would be fantastic.

I was seriously in your same boat two days ago and I was convinced that I was rescheduling my date. My Aunt who is a nurse had a pep talk with me and she made me feel so much better about everything as did some of the members on this forum (thanks guys)! As far as the anxiety goes- I am the same way! Have you heard of "Rescue Remedy"? It's an herbal treatment that you squirt under your tongue and it's a natural stress reliever. It works wonders and I am taking it with me to the testing center, using it before I walk in and also having it available to me during my breaks. I was told about it by a lady that I work with who is a certified herbalist and I totally recommend it for anyone who has anxiety and who is about to test. Another herbal supplement that I have been taking is "Holy Basil" and it works on reducing your cortisol levels. I can tell a huge difference by using that too! You can get both at a health foods store, but they are kinda pricey ($9 for the rescue remedy and about $20 for the holy basil). If you get the rescue remedy, I would try it out while taking some practice tests and see how it works for you before trying it at the actual exam.

The more I thought about not taking my exam right now made me even more anxious because I know the longer I put it off the worse my anxiety will get. Think about this for yourself. If you think that your anxiety would lessen to wait a little bit longer, then maybe you should reschedule. I also know that I'd kick myself in the butt if I put it off and had to keep studying! I am SO SO BURNT out with studying that this test really can't come fast enough for me! I think that a lot of the cause of my emotional breakdown was that I was studying way too much and for too long at a time. The past couple of days I have been sleeping in, going to lunch with friends and then studying for the rest of the afternoon and evening and it has really helped ease my burn out feeling. You can pass this test and you will! You just have to believe in yourself and have complete faith and confidence. I'm pretty sure that there are statistics out there somewhere that show the longer you put off the test the worse your chances of passing are, so try and think about that too when you sit down to make your final decision. Hang in there! I say give it your best shot and try to keep yourself calm. What are you scoring on practice tests?? As many people of said on here, 50-60% should be about normal. I too was beating myself up about my scores but you can't do that. You passed nursing school and can pass this test too! Be aimed at getting more practice questions right than wrong because that's what the NCLEX is all about. Good luck to you and please let me know what you decide. I Hope this helps! (sorry for such a long post) :heartbeat

i took the nclex yesterday and also had all 265 questions. i can't say that i don't feel dreadful about it. i did it in about 4 1/2 hours and took about 4 3 or 4 minute breaks to go to the bathroom. i cried when i got to the car from the stress of it. i kept hoping it would turn off. once i was at 200 and then they kept coming i thought,'oh my goodness, i am going to end up taking it all'. i felt like i failed and that is what the review instructor said we would feel when we leave the exam no matter how many questions we got. crazy! i have to wait at least 72 hours to see if i am posted on the brn website as a RN. the test was much harder than i expected. i had done about 1500-2000 practice questions with a saunders nclex CD along with the hurst review. i felt saturated but there were alot of things i had to guess on because i didn't know it or just couldn't remember! yikes. good luck to you...

I am with you I too had to take the entire test. My brain literally felt fried when I came out of the building. Good Luck

The long post actually helped so thanks a lot for that. The more I think about not taking the exam the more stressed out I get. I am completely exhausted and I haven't been able to sleep. But I know that if I wait the anxiety will just get worse. So you are right. I should take the test. I have been scoring high 50s to mid 60s on the Kaplan tests. I also took ATI and I got a76 and supposedly that means I have a 99% chance of passing. I think that I really just need to go and do it. Thanks for recommending the herbal stuff too. I'll have to try to find it today. What state are you testing in?:redbeathe

Need to be:

I am testing in New Mexico. How about you? I am glad that you are feeling better about everything and that I could help you out. I think that you need to study today and then take the day completely off on Friday and do something nice for yourself so that you can be sure that you are well rested for Saturday. I probably won't sleep well Friday night, but I'm sure going to try and am hoping my massage will help with that! Best of luck! My prayers are with you and I will be waiting to hear great news from you! Let me know if you need anything else! I'm so thankful to everyone on this forum- it's so nice that we can all help eachother out! :heartbeat

Congrats on the 69%!! I am glad to hear that you are doing better today and feel more confident. I really think that is important when you go to take your test. I will be thinking of you on Saturday and sending good vibes your way. :heartbeat You will have to keep us updated on your progress. In the meantime stick to your plan and try to relax on Friday night.

I take mine next Thursday and I go between feeling pretty good to wanting to curl up in the fetal position and cry. I have way to much riding on this to fail again. I was so stressed out this morning and distracted at work that when I tried to get through my 50 morning questions I scored a 56%. That is my lowest score and my only one below 60%. :banghead:

I retake mine next wednesday, so you are not alone. I wish you the ebst of luck. At this point in the last week, I am taking the kaplan trainer over and over....It seems harder than the Saunders book. What do you think??:o
