This thread is for any upcoming graduates taking NCLEX in June of 2008.
To start off with I would love to hear if anyone is taking Kaplan, or Drexel or other prep courses and why did you choose the one you did? I am looking into them and I am just not sure which one is best and why.
Thanks!
I have friends that are saying the same thing as well....that there is no real way to study for this test. You can't cram because you either know it or you don't. I am taking mine on Tuesday in SF. My strategy so far has been studying the tips for narrowing down the answers....almost always you can narrow the answers to just two choices, after those two choices re-read the question and follow the ABCS and Maslow's Hierarchy of needs. You'll have a 50-50 shot at choosing the correct answer. So for those of you still waiting to take it re-read that section of the review books (they all have them) and good luck maybe this will help some of you.
hi! got a question regarding INFORMED CONSENT..i understand that it is obtained only when invasive procedure is to be done...i encountered this question in kaplan saying that INFORMED CONSENT is needed in MRI (there is no mentioning about the use of dye)...help me clear out this one..thanks!

Also you must remember that is the job of the doctor to get informed consent, nurses must only make sure that there is a consent sign before the patient goes for the invasive procedure. Nurses only witness the consent, which means that the doctors explained the procedure to the patient and if after that patient still have questions about it nurses can clarify what she heard while the doctor was giving the patient an explanation about the procedure. If after that if patient still not clear about the procedure nurses must call the doctor and ask the doctor to speak with the patient.
Ivyleaguenurse,
the questions I had weren't that simple as to get to room to alike, it was like for instance: they all had some type of resp. infect. and which could you put together. I was like you, knowing that like illnesses could cohab. and of course there are some that are just plain common sense, was at a loss as to what to do. {These are not the actual questions}. I didn't take Kaplan but my friends all did and I am familar with it and my test wasn't anything like that. I also got to watch a couple of the Hurst lectures on line at a friends house and she basically teaches core content. But the Hurst lady is dead on when she says you must know it without a doubt and without hesitation. I have been an LPN for many years and I didn't feel like I was given an opportunity to prove it, you know what I mean? I'm not really good at the SATAs anyway but to have so many I just felt cheated or something. I don't know I guess I will wait for the official results before I nag anymore. I just wish there were another way as we have already been through so much to get to this point.

That's how I feel too because I am also a LPN and I just feel that I am not prepared for the test but I am over prepared to start working as a RN, and how can they Judge my ackonwledge with a test like that. I guess it's one of those thing that we must go through in life. Just think that if nursing was easy we wouldn't have such a shortage of nurses and I believe God has a plan for us He knows what to do with people who loves and care about others so just relax and pray and Monday you will tell me Horrayyyyyyyyyyy I pass this test

There's a couple of references to MRI, and informed consent, in my evolve package. Also, I did a google search, and 'things' turned up about MRI and informed consent.
Maybe it's because it is magnetic (no pacemaker, etc), or closed in (claustrophobia).
Don't know......
Congrats to those finding out they passed!

Thanks for the comforting words. I am sitting here sweating it out, realizing how many questions out of 75 that I answered wrong. The end of my test seemed too easy. I am really worried and not sure when the results will be posted.
My classmates have all said their NCLEX was the hardest test they ever took. I thought tests in school were harder. That is making me very nervous. Maybe I never got to the really hard part.
Trying to make it through the weekend until results are posted...

sewon16,
I know you did fine, you can't worry about what everyone else got because no two tests are alike. Although I hoped for the kind of test you are speaking of I got what I got and you can't spend your weekend thinking you did bad. You know your stuff and you were able to test in a way that shows it, so be confident in yourself. I am sorry if anything I posted increased your anxiety, but it sounds like you will be able to put this all behind you by tomorrow. Check your BON or pearsonvue in the a.m. Good Luck
