Hi everyone! As the early and regular decision deadlines for the Hopkins accelerated programs approach, I thought I would start a new thread for this year. It seems like it's been a pretty useful source of support for prior applicants during this grueling process :)
Thank you for the information! I was just trying to figure out the numbers to see the percentage chance of getting in! :) Thanks for your time!
These numbers can vary depending on the admissions cycle however the admit rate is a little over 40% for all of the programs but it also depends on what admissions counselor you speak with. Honestly from my experience of attending the school and working in admissions applicants are very focused on these statistics however I feel as if these numbers matter very little in the process. The admissions committee at Hopkins has a very holistic approach and consider each piece of the application. We have students who came in straight from undergrad with 4.0 GPA's and little healthcare experience to paramedics who have been out of school for 5-plus years who maybe had lower GPA's. A lot of rambling on my part but I just want to emphasize how individualized the process is and why these stats are not the "end all be all" Now stop driving yourself crazy!! :)
I don't mind sharing although I am not sure I am a good standard to go by. I only say that because beyond basic credentials we do not know what exactly they are looking for in an applicant and the diversity that they want within the cohorts. If only we could be a fly on the wall for the admissions process. I am curious myself why I was admitted, not that I do not believe I am a qualified candidate but rather because I am sure most everyone who applied is "qualified". My mother is a college admissions counselor and she says that even if you are the most qualified candidate on paper, you may not "fit" into what any particular school is looking for for that particular year or cohort. All this to say, no matter the outcome for everyone in this thread, I believe you will end up at the school that will be perfect for you because they wanted YOU for a very specific reason :)

Most of my health experience is from my experience in the Peace Corps (this is another reason why I do not think I am a good standard to go by - RPCVs get 'preference' in admissions). I worked with a nurse in a rural health post. My job consisted of health education, charting growth and assessing infants/children at clinic, diabetes/chronic disease treatment & education, home visits, and I assisted in developing a now annual girl's empowerment camp. I currently shadow at a birthing clinic in Los Angeles. Before the Peace Corps I worked as a personal trainer and interned at a Cardiac Rehabilitation Clinic. I am also on the board of a non-profit currently. Beyond that, just regular volunteer work and very passionately written essays.
Don't know if this will help any of you, but that is my resume in a nut shell.
I applied for Fall 2014 ABSN and I don't think anyone has heard anything yet in that program. The two on these boards who got accepted Friday were both Summer 2014 and returned Peace Corps.
At this point, I'm not going to stare at my phone all day again waiting for a phone call that may or may not come because we have limited information and clearly the admissions office is swamped. I'm just going to impatiently wait for my letter that I'll probably get in the mail sometime this week.
My mom called (she's probably more anxious about this than I am) and they confirmed that Friday they only called Summer applicants. this week they are calling Fall, but if you don't get a call today or tomorrow, don't assume we didn't get in, just understand that they're behind on phone calls.
