Hi everyone! As the early and regular decision deadlines for the Hopkins accelerated programs approach, I thought I would start a new thread for this year. It seems like it's been a pretty useful source of support for prior applicants during this grueling process :)
Hi Everyone! Congrats to those who have received their calls! I got my call for Summer-Entry ABSN this morning. I had applied for the BS-MSN program but was not offered a spot for MSN. I am honored to have been admitted to the bachelor's program, but now I face a dilemma. I've already been admitted to a different BSN-MSN program and like knowing that I'll for certain become an NP, but Hopkins is actually my first choice school. Argh!!! This is such a happy day, yet I am beyond stressed about this decision. Anyone else in a similar situation?
I guess I shouldn't have assumed the worse... I got a call earlier this afternoon! I'm in! Now I have to decide between Penn, Duke and JHU. Unfortunately, I think a lot of my decision will come down to the money, since they're all such amazing programs. I'm giving myself stomach aches thinking about how much these programs are going to cost!

I hear ya! It's easy to get stressed when I think about the $. But we are smart and we will figure out a way to make it happen. I guarantee you'll find a reimbursement program or creative way to earn additional revenue on the side get them paid off fast. And you'll be doing what you love!
I agree, getting stress ulcers just thinking about the price tag. But I was given this advice for the time being- celebrate and enjoy the good news! The financial aid awards will come in a few weeks, and then the logistics and financial planning will fall into place. But for now while we wait for that- enjoy this moment as your hard work has led you to this opportunity. Congrats all!
Pugluv - sorry to hear that.
Congratulations to all of you getting accepted! I only applied to the ABSN, but they had a "system error saying they received a transcript that actually never arrived" (which is code for Someone Lost Your Transcript But We're Blaming It On The Computer), so my application was passed over until they got the new copy. I called a couple days ago and they said 3 more weeks. Ugh.
Congrats, all!
I am also having a debt aneurysm, but it is comforting to know that I'm not the only one having the happiness-quickly-followed-by-panic reaction.
Is anyone deciding between Hopkins and Penn? What factors are weighing most on your mind? (In addition to aid money. Hopkins will probably wind up being cheaper if only because it is shorter).
I attended Hopkins and lived in Baltimore for two years, I only left to be closer to my family. Honestly Baltimore gets a bad wrap...literally everyone I talked to prior to moving there would say something along the lines of "great school, horrible city." I find people with those opinions have never lived there and are basing their judgement on the TV show the Wire. Yes, there are extremely unsafe parts and yes unfortunately a lot of these parts neighbor the hospital...it is an under-served community. With that being said I NEVER had a safety issue when I lived there and really honestly never felt unsafe. The people who find themselves in trouble are those who don't act wisely and attract attention to themselves ie walking down the street while talking on their self phone, unaware of their surroundings. That would make you a target anywhere. There are so many amazing neighborhoods and unique parts of Baltimore.....please don't judge it before you try it!! I loved what Baltimore had to offer and cannot wait to move back there someday once I have the opportunity.
